Bluebell

Bluebell are a London based duo who loads of different Pop influences into a big old musical mixing pot and come up with a ElectroIndieBedroomPop epics that seriously grow on you. They are releasing their début double A-Side single next month.

Of the two tracks ‘Normal Heights’ is the more impressive, seeming to swing from intimate, introspective Pop to giant, majestic, aria with ease. Verses laden with subtle synths and and the gentle lament of the vocal flow naturally into the tribal bombast and impassioned cries of the chorus. That;s not to say the flip side, ‘Cinderella’ is lacking, if fact it’s probably the better bet for a hit between the two, it;s relentless synthetic chugging grind juxtaposed with Annabel Jones’ fragile, and incredibly catchy, lyrics make for a compelling combination. ‘Normal Heights’ and ‘Cinderella’ make an impressive début, and one that’s bound to see Bluebell getting a lot more attention.

Goin’ Old School: Simon Harris, Lil’ Louis & Neneh Cherry

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Simon Harris’ ‘Bass (How Low Can You Go)’ video from 1988 was like who’s who of UK Hip Hop in the ‘80’s, some US pioneers too…and Dave Pearce.

From 1989, Lil’ Louis’ groaning ‘French Kiss’ terrified old people at the time. Hypnotic Sex House will do that.

Neneh Cherry’s 1989 follow up to ‘Buffalo Stance’, ‘’Manchild’ was a more personal affair.

WhoMadeWho reMixed by Figure Of 8

I’m starting to wonder if Figure Of 8 really is just one guy, as he claims, or whether it’s actually a conglomerate of producers working round the clock. There seems to be a new Figure Of 8 reMix every week, and with no letting up on quality there can be no way just one man can keep up that schedule. Unless he is superhuman. Figure Of 8 might be superhuman?

So, this week we have this awesome deep Piano House reMix of WhoMadeWho’s ‘Never Had The Time’, a laid back, enveloping track that wraps you in it’s warm, woody, bassline and hammering melodies. Bolstered by a gently hypnotic piano riff and chimes the reMix makes great use of the quite vocals as another instrument in it’s in it’s smooth, dreamy House groove.

Oxford’s new tune

Oxford

The Frenchman has does it again. Oxford, who weirdly keeps quite a low profile despite being one of the most talented producers on the Nu-Disco and Dreamwave scene, has dropped another bombshell summer jam. This is pure synthesized good times.

‘Flashlight’ is exactly that, a light in the dark. A rolling Funk bassline pulsates it’s way through the track, deep and low, while lush, sidechaned, synths create a nice nostalgic mood. But it’s the soloing that really makes this track fly. First up, in the breakdown, we’re treated to a lovely piano interlude which soon seugeways into a wicked synth funk solo before bringing us back to the groove. Oxford really needs to release an EP soon, we demand it!

TEEEL reMixes Ian McGlynn

TEEEL is back with another new reMix, where the New Jersey based SynthWave producer get the time I’ll never know, each one is a gem too, Up next is this reMix, we are prémiering today, of fellow New Jersey resident, singer/songwriter Ian McGlynn’s new single ‘Gold Morning Mend’.

McGlynn’s passionate vocal delivery makes for the prefect companion to TEEEL’s dreamy synthetic soundscapes. The reverb washed, almost Chillwavey, vocals lend themselves well to a quirky ElectroPop style, and a quirky ElectroPop style is what TEEEL delivers. By now we’ve heard enough TEEEL to look forward to his emotional synthesizer work, live sounding electronics played with feeling, and with this reMix he wraps up McGlynn’s track in a cocoon of buzzing synths and cosmic melodies. TEEEL and McGlynn deliver a wonderfully heartfelt peice of electronic music here. Perfect for lazy summer nights.

Stop The Car

Stop The Car is a new producer from Manchester making some seriously Funky sounds. That’s at least, what six, up-and-coming producers from that part of the country who are making some serious sounds, what are they putting in the water there?. Strap in for some synthetic Disco that’s guaranteed to make toy move.

There’s an obvious daft Punk influence to Stop The Car’s work, but whist that sound definitely shines though I never got the feeling, listening to his three tracks, that he wanted to be, or to emulate Daft Punk. There’s a bit of LA Beach Disco in there too and a sprinkling of the harder side of French Touch, all wrapped up to carve out groove all of his own. ‘Fanfare’ leads the way, with it’s slick synthetic Disco where ChipTune-esque warbles rub shoulders with lush Disco strings and some Funky slab bass and stabs compel you to dance. ‘Enamel’ takes things to a smoother place. Gentle cut-up vocals and a laid back groove work together to make the track insanely infectious. ‘Entropy’ rounds things off with a deep Funk. It’s a serious chunk of cut-up vocoded Disco with probably the biggest helping of Nu-Disco of the three. Stop The Cat has kicked things off in explosive style and is definitely a name to watch for the future. Bringing the Robo back to Disco.

Eleven:Eleven’s ‘Little White Lies’

Here’s another taste of Austin ElectroPop duo Eleven:Eleven’s début album, or series, or whatever, ‘Through The Veil’ which is trickling out beginning this week. ‘Little White Lies’ is, appropriately, track one in the collection and sets up what to expect nicely.

‘Little White Lies’ is a driving, powerful slice of ElectroPop that will make for impressive album opener. Rapid fire arpeggios create a nice mixture of classic SynthPop and Italo flavours in a hard hitting dancefloor package. Tempering that is Sicca’s impassioned vocals that weave in and out of the synth melody. As far as Modern SynthPop goes, Eleven:Eleven are proving themselves to be the cream of the crop with a contemporary production that sets them apart from the pack.

Little Boots’ ‘‘Every Night I Say A Prayer’ video

Here’s the video for Little Boots’ current track, ‘Every Night I Say A Prayer’ and in keeping with the ‘90’s House influence on the track, the video rocks the ‘90’s hard.

Zaiba Jabbar directs this clip which makes stark use of contrasting black and whites for a simple but striking visual style.

Shook reMixes Capital Cities

LA Indie-Dreamwave duo Capital Cities have become a bit of a mainstay here on electronic rumors in the last couple of years. We covered their latest single ‘Kangaroo Court’ back in March but now the EP is out it;s time to check out a reMix from one of the most musically talented Nu-Disco producers working today. Shook.

Shook channels all his ability into capturing the Funky side of Capital Cities home town. this is a huge slick of pure LA Funk and the Dutch producer works it like he was a native. this kind of pure groove is Shook at his best, it’s where his musicality is allows to shine though and it’s the reason people are lining up to work with him. The original’s upbeat Indie-Disco is reined in and told to ‘chill the fuck out’ resulting in some amazing, slick, west cost vibes. Thick Moogy basses and twisting Disco licks are the order of the day here.
