The latest EP coming out of Yuksek’s Partyfine label comes from French producer Crayon, which is just confusing. So, we get that he appears to now have properly dropped the ‘Le’ from his name (as in, no longer ‘Le Crayon’), but I think they forgot to tell loads of people because this very new release is still listed in some stores (hello, Juno!) as being by. Le Crayon. If we were Crayons management we would have very much advised against the name change, it’s becoming a bit of a mess, but we guess he had his reasons and they are his own.
Anyway, on to the EP. So, we’ve got two luscious House tunes by the names of Downgraders and To The Moon, both decadently deep and both all too short along side the EP’s main even, Give You Up. Featuring Australian singer, Chookie Music’s awesome KLP lending a swoosh of 80s Electronic Soul vocal stylings, Give You Up is a blissful slice of Disco tinged retro Pop. With a rolling synth bassline and shimmering keys flowing onto, Give You Up, calls to mind the charts of ‘86/’87 and that breezy Pop R&B vibe (before R&B got into an abusive relationship with Hip Hop). Catchy as hell, there no way you can’t love this tune. The EP also crams in two fine reMixes from Yuksek himself, and reMixes from Blende and Darius, A flavour of Disco for every occasion.

As you would have seen from our excited Tweets a week or so ago, Australian SynthPop gurus Cut Copy are back in business. their new single, Let Me Show You, was release on extremely limited edition vinyl. Numbering 120 copies, the record was made as part of a demonstration of the vinyl production process at the recent Pitchfork Music festival, copies soon found their way onto YouTube (and onto our excited Tweets), but Modular have releases the track proper online.
You can breathe a sigh of relief too, the track is top-notch Cut Copy. Still loving their tracks of epic lengths, Let Me Show You is a six minute psychedelic SynthPop oddessy. Huge in scope, the track retains a classic Cut Copy sound whilst delivering something fresh alongside. Bright, starlight synths, a trademark for the band, sparkle through the tune, underpinned by warbling synth bass and slick 909 beats. The beats lead the track into a proto-Rave vibe for the choruses, adding subtly House piano and Acidic murmurings to the mix. But, as with all Cut Copy tracks, it’s the distant, hazy vocals that make the track. We’re hoping this means there’s a third studio album on the horizon.

Next week sees the new release from a man who is rapidly becoming one of the more prolific producers around right now. Ali Jamieson’s release schedule is becoming something to be admired, or decried, depending on your viewpoint, but let us assure you, quality control isn’t about to slip just yet as his latest release, for Noenized, will prove to you.
His new single is called Undisclosed, it’s a shuffling Italo beast that exchanges Jamieson’s usual left-field Funk for some good old-fashioned Boogie. But don’t worry, in amongst the whip-cracking digital bassline sits Ali’s ecclectic vintage Disco stylings as the track soon descends into an epic solo-fest with electric piano, synths and bass all vying for attention. The B-side, Pepper, is actually our favourite of the two tracks. A relaxed slice of Robo-Disco with elements of Moog Funk, Italo, Cosmic Disco and even a little Torpical all coming together with a philosophically mind-blowing vocoder line to create a slice of synthetic relaxation that’s right up our street. The single also comes correct with a reMix od Pepper from French Discomeister Moustache Machine.

Deep and emotional House genius Maya Jane Coles’ enigmatic House epic, Comfort, is easily one of our albums of the year, with Burning Bright, featuring Hercules And Love Affair’s Kim Ann Foxman, one of it’s highlights.
Here’s the video for the track, directed by Thomas Knights, which sees Foxman getting all ritualistic with a recently deceased Coles.

Last month, London’s finest SynthPop outfit Strangers, launched their free-track-every-month-until-Xmas project with Sense Of Liberty. Sticking to their harshly self-inflicted schedule, the first of the month has roller around again and here we are with track two of the series, No Longer Lost. We’re just hoping that, like a big extended musical advent calendar, they are saving their best for an Xmas treat. Even though we’re in the middle of a July heatwave, there something festive about countdowns to December.
No Longer Lost is a track that injects the typical Strangers sweeping SynthPop sound with a slight Industrial grind, whilst maintaining euphoric Pop sensibilities. Featuring accompanying vocals from Charli Rouse, the machine beats and harsh bassline play nicely against an uplifting bright synth hook and and defiantly optimistic vocals. Rouse’s vocals and a nice sweet touch to the pumping emotional blitzkrieg, allowing the track to deliver something that works on multi levels.

Hot on the heels of his massive new single for Diplo’s Mad Decent/Jeffree’s label, Swedish SynthWaver and the lord and master of all things retro synth Mitch Murder has turned his attention to his other love, old school video games. Taking the theme from 1989’s Sega classic Super Hang-On, composed by Katsuhiro Hayash, as his inspiration, Mitch delivers Outride A Crisis a SynthWave ChipTune epic.
Blending Mitch’s trademark FM basslines with shimmering video game melodies makes for a funky combination. Mitch ekes every last drop of emotion out of the track, and these video game track were composed to illicit an emotion response from the player, layering spine-tingling chords and leads. Then the track delivers what it was created for, all this underpinning a crunchy, lengthy, solo, as Mr. Murder gets his synth shred on. That’s what we all came for.

Chicago House music producer, and in our opinion one of the finest in the genre, Rogue Vogue is dropping a new single at the start of next month. Out on House of Disco Records, Say You Will is backed with the track More Than Enough and reMixes from such big names on the scene as LeSale, Sixth Avenue Express and Dublin Aunts is what sounds like one of the Chicago House releases of the year.
Say You Will is bombastic Chicago House that weaves it’s way around a classic sounding vocal sample. Popping with fresh elements, from the digital sax hook to the subtly piano line and the requisite 909 hats, Say You Will doesn’t leave you standing, serving up everything you need to get lost on the dancefloor. Lost in music, that is. More Than Enough is a slightly deeper affair. With more of a strobe lit warehouse vibe the track plays with subby bassed and ghostly organs amongst a compelling House beat. It;s another track that hard not to move to, featuring a punchy riff and just the tiniest hint of Luther Vandross. LaSale, Sixth Avenue Express and Dublin Aunts all apply their own brands of Disco and House to the track, but the most compelling for us was Dublin Aunts piano driven breakdown of the song. There’s just something about the combination of piano and synth bass, and the way these guys play with vocal samples that make their brand of slightly ecclectic House so interesting.
