Rogue Vogue

Rogue Vogue is a project from Chicago’s Thomas Mountebank who has just burst into view with two storming tracks set to funk you over.

Combining classic Chicago House sounds with Nu-Disco grooves and a funky feeling both Rouge Vogue’s tunes are laidback head nodders that are impossible to ignore. ‘Sunshine’n’ is a re-interpretation of Roy Ayers’ ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine’ and brings a chilled House piano and a spacey Funk vibe to the immediately recognisable vocals while ‘Breeze’ takes The Isley Brothers’ ‘Summer Breeze’ as it’s base and drags it kicking and screaming to the Disco as smooth summer jam with a touch of Chicago Acid.

James Yuill reMixes One Sixth Of Tommy

One Sixth Of Tommy

One Sixth Of Tommy are three girls with three guitars who make some folky noise, that is until they come across Popmeister James Yuill who reMixes their track ‘For Always’ into an involving ElectroPop ballad.

With a sound and atmosphere that harkens back to the the likes of The Postal Service and Folktronica (don’t blame me, I didn’t invent the word!) Yuill’s mix is slightly Glitchy and conveys a powerful and emotional mood. The piano fronted chilled ElectroPop seems to channel the emotion of the track slightly better than the acoustic guitar lead original with layers of intricate electronics brought under the control of James’ musicianship. Yuill’s mix of ‘For Always’ is involving and slightly addictive!”

Goin’ Old School: Beats International (Feat. Lindy Layton) – Dub Be Good To Me

Beats International & Lindy Layton dropped ‘Dub Be Good To Me’ way back in 1990. Lindy seemed to be on TV all the time back then, That was a good thing. Love the Morricone sample with the Dub bass.

Softwar X Mitzi

Mitzi

Mitzi are an Australian band with a funky indie sound. you may or may not like them, but you will love this reMix of their track ‘Morning Light’ from Sydney guys Softwar.

Wrapping a 90’s house groove in Dreamwave style retro synths Softwar deliver the goods big time. There are a few reMixes of this track around but I’d go for this one as my favourite. This is a track for those deep involved moments in the club when you loose yourself on the dancefloor, deep and pumping with a coating of shimmering synths that let the vocals wash over your ears.

Mitzi – Morning Light (Softwar reMix)

The ‘Morning Light’ reMix EP is out now via Future Classic.

Amalia & Volta Cab

Amalia

Volta Cab who are, as you’ll know if you follow hum on SoundCloud, the hardest working act in Nu-Disco has turned his reMix attention to Modern Funk queen Amalia’s ‘All The Funk I Need’.

The resulting track is some of the dreamiest, chilled Disco you’ll hear all year. From the opening electric piano the tune just oozes cool, with some laidback slap bass and cosmic synths. Produced a few months ago as part of the Amalia reMix competition this track definitely deserves your attention if you missed it. Perfect for these breezy summer nights.

The Sound Of Arrows reMixed by Chad Valley

As featured in Edwin Van Cleef’s recent mix, here is Chad Valley’s reMix of The Sound Of Arrows’ new single, ‘M.A.G.I.C.’.

The track is pretty magical (no pun intended) as it is, but Chad Valley makes the song appear otherworldly with subtle vocal manipulation, reverb washed melodies and a deep, resonant, early 90’s House bassline. A complete departure from the uplifting EuroPop of the original, Chad’s reMix a soothing, hypnotic experience and a perfect compliment to both the single version and the video.

Monsieur Adi reMixes Madonna’s ‘Frozen’

Here it is, ‘Frozen’ is the final part of Monsieur Adi’s trilogy of Madonna  reMixes, and he’s going out with a bang!

Seriously, this tune is just majestic. ‘Frozen’ is a track that’s very close to Adi, he writes “The final remix of this trilogy is one of Frozen. It is such an iconic song of Madonna that really first made me notice Madonna. The delicacy, fragility, and darkness of the song matched with the video really left a mark on me. Just last year I have lost my mother which was the hardest thing I have ever experienced in my life ; I don’t believe anything else could hurt me as much as that. After it, I suppose I became a little “Frozen” creatively and emotionally, but recently I’ve just started to release and return to my old self. I wanted to keep with the spiritual aspect of the song and not do too much. The remix builds in and on itself with a tribal beat, French horns, a cathedral organ, synths, and a choir to back Madonna. It’s been fantastic working with her voice ! Here is the product !”, and it shows. The care and attention put into doing the song justice is awe inspiring. From the deep groove to the powerful orchestration Adi has uplifted and reinvigorated, what is, a thirteen year old track with such love that you can’t help but be astonished and completely absorbed by it.

Monarchy’s ‘Around The Sun’ album

Monarchy’s highly anticipated album, now titled ‘Around The Sun’, finally (a year later) will see the light of day this month.

It’s hard to imagine that ‘Gold In The Fire’, Monarchy’s début, was released January last year swiftly followed by the jaw droopingly good ‘The Phoenix Alive’, a full length album was promised soon after and although teasers leaked out no album appeared. Yet, here we are, over twelve months later and less that a week away from being able to own a copy of Monarchy’s album.

So, to get you pumped, the duo have released two ElectroPop gems to wet your appetite. ‘Jealous Guy’ is a slick, mid-tempo, slice of SynthPop with an almost Pet Shop Boys-esque, dry, British, sense of humour. it;’s a dense track, multi-layer and impressive with a bit of a cinematic feel, musically. Monarchy’s forthcoming single will be ‘Maybe I’m Crazy’, which is definite single material. An rousing, sweeping example of electronic Pop perfection with an anthemic quality that’s hard to ignore.

‘Maybe I’m Crazy’ will be the next single, with reMixes from Michael Woods, Azari & III, Diskjokke, amongst others.

‘Around The Sun’ is released 11 July.

Chromeo & Breakbot

The next single from Chromeo’s latest LP, ‘Business Casual’ is going to be smooth-as-hell ‘When The Night Falls’, with a sweet reMix line up.

Alongside Lifelike and Hercules And Love Affair, will stand this low down Funk version of the track from Breakbot. The Frenchman does a stellar job with his track, bringing some classy Moog Funk to the table and smoothing over an already smoothest-of-the-smooth track. Do you know how smooth that makes it? I don’t even know if you’re ready for this level of smooth. Listen with caution!

Chromeo – When The Night Falls (Breakbot reMix)

Chromeo’s ‘When The Night Falls’ single is due to drop 25th July.
