Lifelike’s new single

lifelike

This is a huge tune. The new single from the consistently amazing French über producer  Lifelike, out this week, is ‘Motion’.

Lifelike’s second single of 2011 kicks you in the ears and demands you dance. The first four minutes or this six minute epic are like one long build, a growling bassline in you face the whole time. When it drops and the hats make an appearance the tune goes crazy ushering in some Disco chords and some dancefloor apeshit moments. Definitely a tune to rock your weekend.

MNDR reMixes Austra

Following on from their critically acclaimed début album, ‘Feel It Break’ Canadian Avant-Pop outfit Austra are earing up for the release of a reMix collection, titled ‘Sparkle’.

Alongside some producers such as Planningtorock and Mark Pistel featured in the package is this slice of dark tropical from New York’s raining SynthPop act MNDR. Amanda and Peter get their steel drums going for this mix which, combined with pulsating synths serve to create a mysterious vibe for the previously sparkling track. It’s a totally different mood for the song, but one that is perfectly complimentary to the original.

Austra – Spellwork (MNDR Nighttime reMix)

Austra have found themselves on the Polaris Prize Short List for 2011, which is apparently, in Canada like, the Mercury Music Prize is here in the UK.

‘Sparkle’ is released 26th July.

80s Stallone; ‘ Paradise Alley’

80sstallone

‘ Paradise Alley’ is the new tune from retro synth stalwart 80s Stallone.

Names, unsurprisingly, after a late 70’s Stallone movie, ‘Paradise Alley’ is an arpeggio fuelled synthesizer odyssey with some nice atmospheric echoing. A soundtrack of determination, 80’s Stallone boarders on training montage with this tune, with an uplifting and inspiring progression, whist keeping a cool 80’s vibe going on.

Teenage Bad Girl’s ‘X-Girl’

French ElectroPop noise merchants Teenage Bad Girl new single, taken from their pretty awesome second album ‘Backwash’, is ‘X Girl’.

The track features  Rye Rye on the smooth MCing and Citizen Records have lined up a whole host of red reMix talent. The stand out for me is this Yacht Disco jam from Alan Braxe. It’s a summer breeze of a tune packed with sweet retro synths and sparkling leads. Noise Invaders chime in with their reMix, it’s not featured on the single but it deserves your attention. Chopping up the track Fidget style and layering that with big Disco sounds, rapidfire electronics and an almost EBM bassline is a heady commination that creates a dancefloor killer.

LexiconDon ‘Set Sail’

The boys are back in town! Well, they’re not, they’re currently on tour, but Binary’s finest SynthPop troublemakers LexiconDon are still finding time to drop the third single from last years ‘Pink + Blue’ album.

‘Set Sail’ was the comedown on ‘Pink + Blue’, the final track that eased you out of the LexiconDon world both in it’s chilled ElectroPop and it’s lyrical imagery, with a little heartbreak in the parting too. So with the single release the have enlisted the help of some of the funkiest music creators around to fill a, frankly, stunning reMix package. Chicagoan producer collective of the moment Only Children drop a live sounding tune with heaps of New York Disco groove. At an epic seven minutes their reMix runs the gauntlet from cool Disco licks to sparkling layers of analog synth. Raining heavyweight champions of smooth music, Fiero, grab the laidback beach vibe of the original with both hands and take it yachting. Their synthesizer dream is the kind of emotional soundtrack music that’s perfect for shoreline sunsets, with just the right amount of talk-boxed Disco Funk to keep you wanting more. Worship pick up the pace with their version, more fitting for the dancefloor than the beach, proving that ‘Set Sail’ works just as well as an upbeat dance track as it does as a ballad. Worship pulls out one of my favourite versions in the pack, really playing to the rhythms newly speedy vocals with the groove of the track, to give the song an urgent quality, opening up new interpretations of the lyrics.

The single also includes rad mixes from Flash Mode, who drop some full on summer Nu-Disco and Jemex, who morph the track into a New Wave hit. You can pick up the reMixes, for free, in high quality on LexiconDon’s SoundCloud.

Appaloosa’s ‘Jumping On Beds’

Paris/London duo and sometime Kitsunérs Appaloosa have dropped a new track, ‘Jumping On Beds’, which was apparently recorded in London while…you guessed it…jumping on beds.

There’s a video too, guess what goes on in that?

It’s a classy slice of burbling ElectroPop complimented with alternating vocals and vocoding. Appaloosa have got such a nice stripped down sound, not fancy production here, just raw electronics and impassioned vocals. The real deal.

Appaloosa – Jumping On Beds

Girls in cowboy hats jumping on beds while singing ElectroPop? I can deal with that.
