Jowie Schulner’s new tune

jowie-schulner1

Jowie Schulner has started the week with a serious treat for all fans of synthesizer music. He’s dropped a new track, ‘Suspicious’, and it it would make Jean Michel-Jarre proud.

Mixing up an laidback Italo groove with some fantastic lead playing, Jowie has put together a track for long summer nights, sunrises over the city and intense introspection. Basically, go sit on the top of a building in an urban jungle, at sunrise, and brood about something you regret with just a hint of hopefulness…this track will be the prefect soundtrack to that. Or you could just go and dance to it, y’know, whatever. Jowie sure does know how to make a synth sing!

Countach’s ‘Driven’

jordan-f

Countach, the new alter-ego of one of Australia’s premiere SynthWave producers Jordan F, is back with another new tune. ‘Driven is a powerhouse SynthWave tune with an aggressive EBM bass.

I can’t help but feel that if this is going to be your driving soundtrack anywhere, it’s going to be on the autobahn. A musically Germanic track, with the aforementioned EBM bass playing amongst hard drums and ominous chords. The only respite from the juggernaut being Jordan’s sky-rocketing lead line. We’ve been hearing more an more SynthWave and Nu-Italo drawing on old school EBM’s growling darkness recently, a lot of it I think in unintentional. It’s an unexpected turn of events, but one we will watch closely.

Cinnamon Chasers’ ‘The Day That Never Came’ video

Cinnamon Chasers, easily one of my favourite artists, possible of all time, is back with a brand new single in March, and as expected it comes with a beautifully shot video.

‘The Day That Never Came’ is quite dark SynthPop for Cinnamon Chasers and comes from his brand new album coming this summer. The video is a simple premise but amazing to look at with a strong narrative.

‘The Day That Never Came’  is released March 5th

Two new cuts from Mitch Murder

Mitch Murder

Mitch Murder, one of our favourite producers, whether SynthWave or not, has dropped a couple of new tracks on SoundCloud. Followers of Mr. murder on YouTube will probably already recognise these tunes but I’m glad he’s making his archive available on SC, much nicer for just listening to music.

First up is ‘Metro City Breakers’, a soundtrack to what goes on on the streets of Metro City when Cody & guy aren’t tearing it a new one. it’s the ultimate ‘80’s homage jam, to the point the when Mitch has exhausted his own intricate synth riffs he busts into some Herbie Hancock and Knight Rider. This track is spot-on Electro-Funk to make envy the most hardened B-Boy happy, it’s also the soundtrack to the bit in a poorly judged ‘80’s move where our wholesome heroes encounter a ‘street gang’. Mr. T’s Fashion Show has long been considered something of an ‘80’spop-culture anomaly (like a lot of things Mr. T did), but it has also always sounded good, and makes for perfect fun cover material. More than anything, these two tracks show how much Mr. Murder loves doing what he does, and we love him for it.

Pteez’s ‘Trains In Colours’ video

Here’s the video for Russian SynthWaver Pteez’s awesome B-Boy Electro inspired ‘Trains In Colours’.

True to the title the video showcases some amazing early ‘80’s subway art.

Alpha Boy’s new EP

alpha boy

One of our favourite German producers Alpha Boy releases his brand new EP today titled ‘Follow Me’.

The lead track on the EP ‘It Was All A Dream’ is more of the Alpha Boy we know and love. It’s that blend of SynthWave and ChipTune that Alpha Boy does so well. With an awesome selection of sounds, a beautiful,  almost oriental, lead sound playing off against his bitcrushed electronics, and intertwining melodies, Alpha Boy has chosen a track of dreamlike brilliance to jump listeners into his new EP. reMix duties are performed by the always rad Swiss duo Flashworx, who play up the slight oriental feel and work it into their Moroder groove and rousing chords.

Malibu B’s new single

Malibu B

We recently featured Hungarian producer Malibu B and his début EP, and loved it. the guy must be a workaholic ‘cos a matter of weeks later he’s back with a storming new single, ‘Endgame’.

‘Endgame’ drops the 808 cowbells and B-Boy beats to great effect, sitting at the nice meeting point between Old School Electro-Funk and SynthWave. The lead line particularly is of that post-Yazoo’s ‘Situation’ kinds that blurred the lines between SynthPop and Poppin’ & Lockin’. Breakin’ beats aside the track is a beautiful, swelling, synthesizer journey who’s chords instil a sense of calm amongst the retro groove. The B-Side, ‘Loss’, is a deep Jan Hammer-esque peice that, in the imaginary movie it’s soundtracking, sees out hero in a quiet moment of contemplation before the big action set-piece finale.

Kensy Krackshow

Kensy Krackshow

It seems it’s that time of the month to see what shit-hot things the Russians are up to. This time the wearerussians.com label are dropping a free single from Kensy Krackshow.

The single ‘The End’ and it’s B-Side, ‘Malkovich’ are two slabs of powerful, driving, Electro. Dark and gritty with the big, retro leads of SynthWave, the distorted chaos of French Electro-House, and an extra helping of twisted Acid mayhem. There’s some serious competition for the likes of Danger and Kavinsky here! Kensy also recently dropped a free album, ‘Power Of Illusions’, which you can pick up here.

Pteez

Pteez

At some point the Russian SynthWave scene is going to have to slow down for a bit and let the rest of the world catch up, this past year so many amazing acts have come out of Russia. Pteez is latest in this long line to mix ‘80’s soundtrack electronics with a touch of funky Nu-Disco.

All three of the tracks on Pteez SoundCloud display a skill for getting an Italo groove going and warping it a little for the dancefloor. ‘Stardust’ is one of my favourites,  bright, sparkling synths dance over retro Italo basslines. But far from ridged, it’s got a late ‘80’s Electronic Soul swing that saw white guys dancing like fantastic idiots for the better part of the decade. ‘Soundwind’ is deeper, more traditional SynthWave, epic movie soundtrack stuff that thrives on huge retro chords and soaring leads that carry along in it’s story. ‘Trains In Colour’ had got an awesome B-Boy Electro flavour to it, a nice Electro Funk in it’s FM bassline. It’s not often you get to hear a proper meeting of B-Boy Electro and SynthWave and ‘Trains In Colour’ really nails it, with it’s twisted leads and synth toms its a rack after my own heart.

Mental Minority

Mental Minority

Mental Minority is, well, is a German SynthWave producer. That’s about all we know about him. But that’s a good thing, because there’s loads to talk about the music!

He’s recently dropped a new track ‘T.V. Outrun’ and an new EP ‘Moodshifter’. Both display his love of ‘80’s and Italo. ‘T.V. Outrun’ is a bouncy, swirling peice that mixes the Italo bassline with epic shifting pads and sparkling synth melodies. It;s a good introduction to Mental Minority’s sound. Emotive and involving synthesizer soundtracks. The ‘Moodshifter’ EP is free from his SoundCloud page and contains five tracks of electronic soundscapes and retro beats. The highlight being ‘Shifting the Decades’ an Italo journey that conjures visions of Tokyo skylines, robotic beats with the soul of the orient. The whole EP is definitely worth checking out.
