[Audio] Patrick Baker’s new single

Patrick Baker

Amazing Retro Pop artist Patrick Baker is gearing up for the release of his début single. Released next month, Get 2 Know U is actually the first track of Patrick’s we featured on electronic rumors, back in June last year, and now it’s getting a proper release, backed with a pretty special reMix package, in anticipation of Baker’s album release later this year.  Televisor Jolie Cherie

You’ve probably heard Get 2 Know U by now, it’s a lush slice of 80s Americana. when we first wrote about it we commented that Patrick baker is to American 80s Pop what Kid Kasio is to British 80s Pop, and that’s true. Patrick authentically creates a nostalgic vision of the US charts in the great decade. Get 2 Know U is a catchy, upbeat slab of ElectroPop. Fun and funky, what more could you want? reMixes come from Robots With Rayguns with a deep, west coast, Pop mix, Televisor, who inject the track with a summery, beach-party, vibe and lends Get 2 Know U some Nu-Disco flair, and France’s Jolie Cherie, who turn in a relaxed, spacey, Disco tinged ElectroPop mix that has a nice warm sound to round of the single. We’re so pleased Patrick is starting to release stuff properly and predict big things from this guy.

[Audio] Televisor’s ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’

Televisor

Well, what can you say about this track? The genius of it? Dutch/British duo Televisor have dropped their version of We Wish You A Merry Christmas as part of Monstercat’s Christmas Album. Cover X-mas tunes can come off two ways, normally incredibly cheesy and MIDIfile sounding, but amazingly Televisor actually turn We Wish You A Merry Christmas into a funkin’ good time jam.

Mixing up the We Wish You A Merry Christmas melody with twisting synth leads and vintage stabs, Television deliver s Disco tune with extra helpings of X-mas cheer. It’s pretty unbelievable how they’ve pulled this off, a genuinely amazing X-Mas SynthWave Disco track. This is going on repeat on the 25th!

[Audio] Garth Knight’s ‘Neuron’

Garth Knight

Here’s the new one from Glasgow based SynthWaver Garth Knight who brings a nice combination of retro synth and Disco to the table, with a little Italo twist. Neuron is actually the funkiest thing we’ve heard from this guy to date, and is well worth considering for your X-mas party soundtrack.

Neuron kicks off with a slick, cut-up, Disco sample before launching itself into a bouncy Italo bassline and some seriously haunting synths.. When the tree elements come together the track delivers a nice burst of energy, drawing the track toward a nice bit-crushed breakdown. When the tune slams back in the mix of Disco groove and vintage synth emotion is powerful stuff. Guaranteed to keep them dancing, and loving it.

Russia’s Dreamwave superstars Tesla Boy are easily one of our favourite acts to emerge in the last decade. Ranging from nostalgic Dreamwave to catchy ElectroPop, Anton and crew always inject their tracks with so much soul it’s hard not to get sucked in. Their 2012 album, Modern Thrills is an actual masterpiece of Disco tinged SynthPop, and that might sound like hyperbole, but just listen to it, you’ll see.

This week they release a brand new single, which we have been very much looking forward to. it’s called Split and it doesn’t disappoint. No-one quite does, what is essentially vocal SynthWave, quite like Tesla Boy. Split has a big, powerful sound but keeps it personal with the vocals. Huge retro synths chords and arpeggiated bass dominate the chorus and before the track brings it back down low for the verse, just to build you up again. With the prefect tempo for a laid back groove, not too fast, but not to chilled either, Split is a huge, and welcome, return for Tesla Boy. It’s B-side, Another Light mixes up a little Indie and a tiny bit of a Tropical sound into Tesla Boy’s Synth repertoire before going large for the sing-a-long chorus. reMixes on the single come from Pioneerball, SoundSAM and St. Petersburg Disco outfit 7th Myriads, who deliver a piano House infused, summery Disco, version of Split, with a beach party vibe. Hopefully this single is the precursor to a new album, which would be an awesome start to 2013.

[Audio] Mitch Murder reMixes Karl X Johan

Karl X Johan

Karl X Johan are a Sweedish duo who have been making a few ripples in the waters of hype in recent months. This Stockholm twosome like mixing it up with shuffling Hip Hop drums, Chilly synths and introspective songs. They have also roped in fellow Swede, and king of SynthWave Mitch Murder on the reMix.

Taken from the forthcoming reMix edition of Karl X Johan’s Do You Remember?/Get It All EP, the Mitch Murder mix of Do You Remember? is a smooth-as-hell slice of summer nostalgia. A shimmering pallet of retro drums, Mitch’s emotive digital bass, and playful little melodies lay out a laid back vintage groove which, when added to Karl X Johan’s reverb washed vocal, ends up sounding almost Chillwavey. But a really 80s Chillwave. This is going to be sorting me out for the rest of the day.

[Audio] Silenx’s ‘Space Love’ reMix EP

Silenx

Earlier this year Silhouette Music put out the Space Love EP from our friend SynthWaver Silenx. A collection of some of his finest tunes from around that time, the EP held four track worth of massive funky, space age Electro. Now it’s time to revisit Space Love, with a brand new reMix EP holding work from some of the top names on the scene.

Brooklyn synth heads Follow Me kick off the proceedings with a bouncy Italo version of the title track that delivers punchy beats and bass while managing to keep the Sci-Fi tone intact. Germany’s finest, Final DJs, bring a wonderful combination of soaring synths and infectious digital slap bass for their take on Far Far Away. Injecting the EP with an overdose of Disco, Final DJs work up a track that is electronically complex as it is soulful. 80s Stallone’s vintage 80s dancefloor workout version of Long Lost Love brings the core essence of SynthWave to the EP with wobbly chords and digital horns over an addictive Italo-esque groove. The EP leads off with a reMix of Stellar Kiss from Keenhouse. As you would expect, Keenhouse gets emotional and psychedelic with his synths, crafting a futuristic soundscape with a Jazzy twist and delivers the prefect EP closer. Easing the listener out of the heave retro beats with a glorious galactic voyage of swirling synthetic sounds.

[Audio] Kavinsky’s ‘ProtoVision’

kavnsky

Here it is! After what seems like forever waiting for some new music, here’s the new single from Outrun-Electro original gangster Kavinsky. Released today, this is the first track from the dead Cruiser’s forthcoming album, cunningly titled Outrun. ProtoVision, as it turns out, was actually the track we heard a while back in this video (which has since been named accordingly). Loved it then, loving it more now.

ProtoVision is a grinding soundtrack to an 80s Sci-fi video nasty. A screaming robotic assault that references epic electronics from Jean Michel-Jarre to Brad Fiedel’s The Terminator soundtrack. Soaring synth leads and guitar wails strike dramatic moments over chainsaw synths and a tense bassline that growls at the heart of the track. In Kavinsky’s Dead Cruiser narrative this is one hell of a powerful beat, you can imagine what kind of high-stakes conflict is occurring and with the video (a still from which is above) coming very soon, maybe we’ll find out. Too often lumped in with the bog-standard distorted Electro crowd, Kavinsky is still the king of SynthWave/Outrun-Electro, and he;s back to show the imitators how it’s done.

[Audio] SaiR’s new tune

sair

Hot on the heels of his new EP for Rosso Corsa, Portuguese Dreamwave SaiR is already filling up our ears with more of his smooth, Jazzy, retro Nu-Disco sounds. This new one, Mornings, is a musical treat that’s primed to ease you into the week.

Mornings a blissfully laid back, Moog Funk infused, Disco tune layered with so many melodies it should sound really cluttered, but in SaiR’s capable hands everything flows together perfectly. Running throughout is a lush electric piano that lends a cool Jazz swing as it breezes along a dense, Funky backing. just the right tempo to keep the energy up, but also wash you in relaxed vibes. SaiR delivers mood changes with skill too, as the just-under six minute track injects the occasional Cosmic build and growling Electro Boogie breakdown  Perfect introspective Disco listening.
