[Audio] Tesla Boy & Tyson’s ‘Broken Doll’ reMixed by Pioneerball

tesla boy

Unsurprisingly, the next single from Russian ElectroPoppers Tesla Boy’s amazing current album, The Universe Made Of Darkness, will is Broken Doll. This tune, featuring some vocal work from Tyson, is prime single material. Frequent Tesla Boy reMixers Pioneerball once again contribute to the single reMix package with this thick slice of Boogie.

This one is all about that heavy, heavy, synth Fun bassline. Popping and bubbling away in the background, the irresistible bass serves as a groovy core for Pioneerball’s arsenal of retro synth shimmers. Keeping things mid-paced and solid, Pioneerball serves up a rich vintage DiscoPop powerhouse that perfectly compliments Tesla Boy’s Anton’s vocals. The single also includes a Dub version by Tesla Boy themselves and a reMix of Invisible from Sportloto.

[Audio] Curxes’ ‘Avant-Guarded’

Curxes

We’ve been kept mightily amused by the Budgies over the last couple of months. That being the mundane adventures of a couple of giant budgie headed Curxes types. Have a gander at their Instagram account if you have no idea what we’re talking about. To soundtrack this searing insight into the parakeet world, the Brighton/Portsmouth Electro-Industro-Pop duo have released a new single, Avant-Guarded.

In contrast to their last single, the haunting Further Still, Avant-Guarded relentless noise assault. But unlike many forays into the realms of the experimental, Curxes manage to combine a left-field musicality with some surprisingly catchy ElectroPop. Post-punk in places, vocally, and musically a bit R&B at times, Avant-Guarded is a strange beast. Although with a title like that it;s probably to be expected. There’s an amazing sonic pallet being worked with here, new synth sounds and rhythms to keep you interested on repeated listens. What Curxes have done here, is take the far to often po-faced and taking-itself-seriously world of experimental electronics and made it fun. Quite the achievement.

[Audio] Joypopp’s ‘D-Day’

Joypopp

As we reported yesterday, French SynthWave producer Daroc contributed a track to the French Le Burgundy Paris L’Album, but it wasn’t alone on the record. Daroc other project, as member of ElectroPop two piece Joypopp also turned-in a brand new tune for the collection. Their particular brand of sweet atmospheric SynthPop since last years Addictions album.

Their new track, D-Day, is a heady buzzing synths and dreamy vocals, with just a sprinkling of guitar. Alix’s siren vocals drifting across the magic swirl of sounds to instil a mood of smoky mystery with a hint of enticement and a hint of foreboding. A nice retro feel is provided by vintage synth sounds, it’s one of those songs that stick with you after you’ve finished listening. This truly is DreamPop.

Freak You & Bright Light Bright

There You Are is the latest tune from French producer and On The Fruit Records shot-caller Freak You. This lush ElectroPop opus boasts a whole host of amazing collaborative names. Not only was a touch of production wizardry lent by Mr. James Yuill, but vocal duties on the this track are carried out by none other than Bright Light Bright Light. Can it be anything other than amazing?

With a slight dusting of House, and an even subtler dusting of Tropical sounds, There You Are is a deep, warm and mesmerising ElectroPop tune with enough dancefloor funky to be considered Disco-y but Poppy enough to storm the charts. Rod’s vocals are simple but very effective, choosing to opt for a hypnotic refrain while Franck delivers on the promise of full beats, body shaking basslines and big emotional rushes in all the right places. Intelligent SynthPop at it’s finest, not pandering to any trend, just serving up quality.

[Video] Techniques’ ‘Switch’

TECHNIQUES SWITCH YouTube

We first featured Preston ElectroPoppers Techniques Switch last August and have been awaiting it’s release ever since. It’s out next month via Kitsuné, who we can’t help but feel that along with a lot of their recent releases have dropped the ball on this one, both from a scheduling and promotional point of view. Remember when a Kitsuné release meant something? Now they just seem to let releases slip out unannounced. Ah well, at least it is coming out, definitely long overdue, it’s an excellent tune.

Here’s the video, directed by Tilly Shiner & Becan Rickard-Elliott, simple, monochrome, but quite effective.

Techniques’ Switch is released 2nd December.

[Download] Strangers’ ‘Divine’

Strangers

So, y’know London SynthPop superheroes Strangers have been releasing a free track at the beginning of each month for the last few months? The last five months to be exact. Well, as we head into December, the guys have collected these tracks as the Close EP, due for release at the start of next month. I know what you’re thinking; ‘I’ve already downloaded those songs for free’, well just hold your horses, there’s more! The EP comes equipped with an exclusive new track, an acoustic version of Fires and a new reMix of Something New from Jack Robert Hardman. You can listen to the new tune right here, and you should, ‘cos it’s well good.

Divine features Lou Bird, and brings to the EP a swirl of lush synths set atop shuffling R&B-esque beats. Sounding distinctly ‘London’, Divine meshes Strangers typically majestic SynthPop with an electronic, urban feel. Strangers do everything big, and Divine is no exception, stuffed to busting point with rich tones and layers of backing vocals. They’re like HURTS, but better. Because HURTS turned into sad rock posers (thanks Dita Von Teese, we know that was your fault) and we have a feeling that Strangers will be (as they say in old London town) ‘keeping it real’.

[Audio] Chvrches’ ‘Lies’ reMixed by Ikonika

Chvrches

OK, stop what you;re dong and listen to this right now, ‘cos it’s bloody brilliant. Glaswegian ElectroPop apparitions Chvrches’ début track, Lies, is re-released with a full reMix package next month. We already posted the not-bad Tourist reMix, which, frankly, pales in comparison from this huge slice of Boogie coming from sometime experimentalist and obvious retro sounds lover Ikonika.

Ikonika delivers her very finest 80s synths and stabs on this one. Frantic B-boy beats  and a pulsating synth bass keep the energy levels so far up, choppy samples of the vocals and massive 80s chord hits just adding to the nostalgic dance party that is this reMix. The song itself is left, wisely, intact, but give a whole new twist with hints of electronic Soul retro Pop. There even a lush string section to instil little emotional connection, on and a phone ringing off the hook, which kinda’ works, lyrically. Anyway, it’s, frankly, amazing, and a definite contender for reMix of the year.

Say Yes Dog

Dutch-based ElectroPop trio Say Yes Dog appear to be on a mission to get well and truly stuck in our heads. Permanently. Their post-Hot Chip Quirk-Pop is instantly likable and can be found on their recently released début EP, A Friend, from which we have two track right here. At times the tend to veer a little to far into the Chip’s established territory, in almost a homage style, but mostly it’s gets away with it due to an abundance of fun.

The EP’s title track, A Friend, gets particularly Chippy toward the end, but matins it’s own identity with it’s plinky-plonky snyths and delicious dancefloor beats. It’s mixture of melancholic croon and chirpy melodies actually working really well. Light, and funky, and ultimately feel-good, A Friend’s brand of SynthPop is just hard not to like. Around My Neck is similar in vein, albeit slightly more introspective. Electric piano led, Around My Neck warms things up with some buzzing synths and excitable rhythms, which seems to temper the suspiciously gloomy subject matter. We expect Say Yes Dog will be one of those bands that generates a lot of hype in the coming months, they’ve just got that vibe about them.

[Download] Little Boots’ ‘Nocturnal Versions’ EP

Little Boots

Well, this is a nice start of the week surprise. ElectroPop princess Little Boots is not only releasing, digitally, two tracks that have only been available previously on limited edition 12”, but she’s releasing them for free. All in celebration of her impending show at Heaven in London where she’ll be playing a special set with a one-off expanded live band. So get stuck into these two hypnotic edits of Broken Record and Strangers.

Both are tracks taken from her recently released sophomore album, Nocturnes, presented here as quite radically reworked dancefloor monsters. Strangers becomes an eight minute epic with all the DJ friendly bits expanded and a few Dubby effects thrown into the mix to form a decent edit. It’s companion, Broken Record, delivers on the album version promise of an Acid workout. The original track starts to fade out at around four and a half minutes, just as the dirty 303-esque riffs kick in. On this Nocturnal Version you get an extra three minutes of pedal-to-the-metal dancefloor action. Not to be sniffed at.
