[Audio] Ronika & Mylo!

Ronika &Mylo

If there’s a bunch of tracks in the past few months we’ve been dying to hear it’s the fruits of the collaboration between Ronika and Mylo. As soon as we heard these two would be working together, Dance legend Mylo has personally chosen our girl Ron to ‘mentor’ as part of Bacardi’s Bacardi Beginnings project that teams up-and-coming artists with veterans, we’ve been itching to check out the result. We know there’s more than one track incoming, and here is the first Dance (The Modern Way).

Weirdly enough, it does actually sound like Ronika And Mylo working together. It’s essentially very much a Ronika track, but in some respects swaps her jagged retro DiscoPop for Mylo’s warmer, more rounded Dance sound. So, without mentioning Ron or Mylo anymore, the track itself is pretty awesome and despite sounding like a stripped down, hypnotic track, has a hell of a lot going on in it. A long, rich, string and vocal led intro lays down a sense of drama as the tune gradually introduces pulsating arpeggios and a classic House riff, winding up the listener like a rubber band until, just before you snap, launches you into a deep House groove. Loaded with Italo overtones, Dance (The Modern Way) juggles Robo-Pop slickness and euphoric 90s House with ease topped of with Ron sounding sultrier than ever. Ronika and Mylo in the same room is definitely not disappointing so far, can’t wait to hear what’s next.

No word yet about release dates or when the other tracks will surface. We’ll keep out ears to the ground. If you;re in London this weekend you can catch Ronika DJing at the launch of new Disco clubnight West 54th Street.

MiGHty mOUse reMixes Hervé & Ronika

Ronika

Hervé & Ronika’s old school Rave anthem How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right) was finally released yesterday, revealing the most eagerly awaited (as far as we were concerned) of the reMixes. From the moment we heard both the original, and that London’s Disco don MiGHty mOUse was contributing a reMix, for us, that was the one to hear.

And it lives up to expectations, easily positioning itself as the standout of the package. Driven by a deep galactic funk, MiGHty mOUse takes us, and Ronika, out beyond the solar system with some of the most cosmic Disco you’ll hear in a while. A booming robo bassline is perfectly complimented by electro toms popping and pewing like laser fire off the starboard bow. This is the kind of jam they danced to in late 70’s Sci-Fi shows, when the did dance, especially in Buck Rodgers. Like the musical equivalent of a shiny silver jumpsuit, one worn by Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika. Which, thinking about it, she’d probably love. Addictive space funk, get involved.

Hervé & Ronika: The reMixes

ronika

So, you may be enjoying the new single from Hervé, ‘How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right)’, featuring out girl,  Madonna Of The Midlands™, Ronika. You may be enjoying it’s bass heave old school Rave vibe. But what if it’s just not bass heavy enough for you, if such a thing is even possible? Well, don’t worry yourself, Hervé has got you covered. The reMixes turn the bass heaviness up to 11.

Hervé sometime partner in crime Sinden is up first with a stomping tribal Rave mix that drops you into a deep hypnotic groove before smacking you in the face with that massive riff. Hervé, in his Death Rose Cult alter-ego, drops a truly massive reMix that straddles the line between rave and Dubstep by layering buzzsaw rough synth over a pumping beat. This is the one that’s gonna’ rip your face off on the dancefloor. Detboi serves up a future Garage mix complete with shuffling beats and warp bassline, not heard a full on Garage track in quite a while, Detboi delivers it flawlessly. These guys really need to stop being greedy with the bass or there will be no bass left for anyone else!

Little Boots & Ronika

Little Boots

So, after a week of all things Little Bootsy and ‘Headphonesy’ you should have probably picked up the single by now, we won’t bother telling you how good it is again, thanks to the wonders of the internet you can go back and read out enthusing so we don;t have to type them again. But if you need still further convincing you a) probably hate fun and b) should check out our girl Ronika (Madonna Of The Midlands™ *sigh*)’s reMix. But be warned, it’s not what you expect.

What it is, is a fantastic late ‘80’s electronic Soul track, sung by someone who may have once been Little Boots before being pitched down an octave or two. The pitching suddenly warps Victoria into some kind of post-Motown Diva, accompanied by a shimmering soundtrack that actually quite dark in places. It’s a sumptuous track, that stands apart from it’s bedfellows on the single, delivering itself as practically a different song. A smooth groove amongst the frantic retro Pop. It’s unusual for someone to try something this daring with a reMix, and pull it off so well, especially on what could be considered a mainstream release. Most producers would play it safe. That Ronika just went with what she felt is something to be saluted.

“Hello Sir, can I take your order please?”, “Yeah, I’ll have a Madonna Of The Midlands™ please”, “Of course Sir, and would you like some ‘90’s Deep House with that?”, “Uuuuummmmmmmmmmm, yeah, go on then”, “Would you like that supersized?”, “Um, no, I’ll go for the minimal thanks”

Sweet Raptor Jesus we’re witty today! If you can;t tell by the absolutely hilarious first paragraph, this is a new reMix of Ronika’s radder than rad ‘Automatic’, that doesn’t appear n the single, from HyperHyper, it’s kinda’ Deep ‘90’s House, in a Minimal way. That was the exposition for those of you who couldn’t follow the plot of paragraph one. It’s got a nice late night vibe and actually highlights some nuances of Ron’s vocal performance we didn’t hear before. See, crap fast food jokes and use of the word ‘nuances’ in one post, that’s the crazy pick-n-mix that is electronic rumors!

Hervé and Ronika’s ‘How Can I Live Without You (Make It Right)’ video

Well, we’ve been hearing about this for a while now, both in person and on Twitter, but now we can feast our eyes on the video, and have our first listen to the full vocal version, of  Hervé and Ronika (ahem, Madonna Of The Midlands™)’s ‘’How Can I Live Without You (Make It Right)’.

Directed by Jack Lightfoot & Robin Mason at Blindeye Films, the clip features little Ron and little Hervé, and slightly less little Ron, but seems to be missing a big Hervé. Wassup with that?

Hervé and Ronika

This past Friday, the best start to the weekend Annie Mac premièred the forthcoming new single from UK bass legend Hervé and  our very own Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika. Strap in for some heavy as hell, euphoric dancefloor gold.

‘How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right)’ is a bass heavy stomper with some serious early ‘90’s Rave overtones. Just the sound of those keys takes me back over a decade and invokes such a good feeling. The track is both nostalgic and upfront with some killer bass in the mix, perfect for when the party is hitting it’s peak. Ron’s vocal line just add the icing on the cake, I know she would have had fun singing a Rave line like that and it really sounds like it. I can’t wait until this tune goes off at the summer festivals. The UK is gonna’ jump.

♫ Hervé (Feat. Ronika) – How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right) (Club Mix) (Radio Rip)

‘How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right)’ is released in the coming months.

Update: According to Hervé, this is in fact the Club Mix, and there is indeed a full vocal version coming, a fact that just gave me goosebumps.

Shook & Ronika

shook

How long have we been waiting for this? Both Shook and Ronika have been teasing this track for months. If this was service in a restaurant I would be asking to speak to the manager. But was it worth the wait? It;s Shook and Ronika…what do you think?

Shooks Moogy Disco is perfectly in-tune with the Ronika ethos. To be honest I can only think of a handful of other Nu-Disco producers who could do Ronika justice, and shook would probably be top of that list. Shook leaning toward ‘70’s Funk in his particular brand of Disco lines up well with Ronika’s late ‘70’s/early ‘80’s New York Disco vibe. It’s a match made in heaven basically. The track ‘Distorted Love’ is a slick, sexy little groover that is a great showcase both for Shooks lightning fingered synth playing that Herbie Hancock would be proud of and Ronika’s smokey, soulful voice. there’s some ace ‘70’s Disco drops in here too. That’s how you do a drop, not like these Brostep kids these days.

Shook (Feat. Ronika) – Distorted Love

‘Distorted Love’’s B-Side, ‘Love For You’ should be dropping soon and expect some pretty special things from Ronika in the coming months.
