[Audio] Alex Metric & Jacques Lu Cont’s ‘Safe With You’

Alex Metric

Last month we introduced you to the Dub Mix of Alex Metric‘s team-up with Jacques Lu Cont’s Safe With You. It’s was surprisingly amazing, but all we could have asked for is a bit more in the vocal department from Niki & The Dove‘s Malin, and more of a Pop structure. Well, we didn’t have to wait long as this past weekend Pete Tong premièred the full vocal version of the track, grab yourself a listen.

Possibly one of the Pop songs of the year, Metric and Lu Cont don’t hold back the big builds and uplifting hook, weaving them effortlessly with hard hitting dancefloor beats and gruff basslines. Malin’s vocals soar over the track and really make the track what it is, the chorus is so insanely hands-in-the-air that not even shoving your hands deep in your pockets will prevent the inevitable. Expect to hear this a lot over the summer, and your life will be enriched for it. Bring Pop and Dance together perfectly.

[Video] AlunaGeorge’s ‘You Know You Like It’ (take 2)

AlunaGeorge You Know You Like It YouTube

It’s a brand new video for AlunaGeorge’s You Know You Like It. Back in 2011 the You Know You Like It single sported AlunaGeorge’s first proper slick video. Now the single’s got a brand new clip to promote the duo’s forthcoming album Body Work.

The is probably the first basic Pop video the twosome have released, they’re are normally a bit more high-brow than this. This one right here is full-on 90s Pop swing.

AlunaGeorge’s Body Work album is out 29th July.

[Video] Goin’ Old School: Spandau Ballet, Karla DeVito & Ministry

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Let’s begin todays journey with a bright SynthPop from Spandau Ballet’s 1982 single; Lifeline.

OK, this isn’t strictly a music video, because there isn’t one. But c’mon, what’s Karla DeVito’s 1985 track We Are Not Alone most famous for?

Before Ministry were shite Metal Ministry they were good, SynthPop Ministry, and even before that they were the Ministry who recorded this unreleased track, Same Old Madness, from 1982.

[Audio] Reflex’s new single

REFLEX Photo 1

We’ve been eagerly waiting for this one for quite a while now, it’s the new single from France’s finest ElectroPop duo Reflex. Out next week on Continental Records, the single, titled Together, is the prefect material for these two to make a return to releasing original tunes. it’s big, bombastic and fun and has a hook that’ll be stuck in your head all day.

Together, drops just in time for the warmer months, and that’s a good job too as there is a touch of the Balearic about it. This is all about big piano riffs and rumbling Disco bass, all wrapped up in a surprisingly euphoric package that’s ripe for some festival season anthem kudos. Loaded with groove laden House undertones that permeate every corner of the track, from the irritate beats to Lud’s chanting, call-to-arms vocals, Together is just what’s needed on this summers dancefloors. reMixes on the single come from Boys Get Hurt, Pat Lok and Ryan Riot. Pat brings one his wonderful deep, retro House tunes to the table. If the original is set for open air dancing, then the Pat Lok reMix is destined for warehouses. Abrasive House riffs and Chicago organ hooks relentlessly power the track on featuring all manner of modulated vocals. Ryan Riot gives the track a little 80s flavour with his SynthWave version of the track. Mixing in a hint of 90s Trance, Riot bring his typical fair for rolling synthesizer love. You won’t be able to shake that arpeggiated bassline. A pretty stunning release from Reflex, we’re hoping there is an album in the works.

[Audio] Clancy reMixes Ellie Goulding

elliegoulding-1

The UK’s best kept secret, Clancy, has done it again. He’s just dropped his reMix of Ellie Goulding’s cover of Alt-J’s Tessellate. The track getting an official release soon, and you should definitely snap it up as Rich one again proves why he’s one of the most exciting producers around right now.

This one’s actually got a little Disco flavour to Clancy’s House, provided by a big squelchy bassline that adds a little swing to the Jackin’ beat. Clancy’s has seriously got a knack for atmospheric and infectious House, his tunes are always swirling clouds of warm tones and hypnotic hooks. Using just the right amount of the vocal, Clancy build a little dancefloor tension throughout the track, to keep thing interesting and deliver proper intoxicating deep grooves.

[Audio] Patchy’s début album

Patchy

We served up London based new ElectroPop artist Patchy’s Picnic video earlier this year. Picnic was her début single, and she’s already unleashed a whole album of material on the world. Released this week, Illuminations runs the gauntlet of electronic music influences and them packages them all up in a sweet Pop parcel.

Dreams, the albums opened delivers on this perfectly, from it’s shuffling beats to it’s big post-Dubstep warbling, it’s all made accessible by Patchy’s quirky and inviting voice. The bubbling and infectious single Picnic gives way to the almost Kraftwerkian beats and electronic pulses of Brixtonia and the magical garden Dub of Solutions. By this point in the album you’re beginning to fall into Patchy’s groove. Truly ecclectic and interesting electronic music with a Pop sugar coating that it quite a refreshing combination. The vocals are sweet and catchy and slightly introverted in a way that makes them appealing, but the music shows off some really intricate programming and arrangement and draws on a myriad of underground styles. There are, of course, big Pop moments, such as the sweeping Happy Dark Spirit but as the album serves up it’s final third it’s all complex and atmospheric synths, robotics beats and vocals that get more and more brooding. The tension is broken though as the record plays out on Starting Now, a track that injects Patchy with a Disco swing and a catchy piano hook. It;s a confident début for this young artist, a name we’ll be keeping an eye on form now on.

[Video] Goin’ Old School: Madonna, Front 242 & Taylor Dayne

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

Some pure Pop with an EBM filling today, starting with Madonna’s Into The Groove from 1985.

And unexpectedly cropping up is one of EBM pioneers Front 242 finest moments, 1986’s Quite Unusual.

Back to the Pop to finish up, from 1987 it’s Taylor Dayne big moment, Tell It To My Heart.
