[Audio] Gigamesh’s ‘Enjoy’

Gigamesh

We raved about this track on Twitter the other day, now a bit more of it has hit SoundCloud we can present it right here. Straight up, this is probably our favourite Gigamesh track to date, not least because it samples the hell out of Wham!’s 1982 début single, and ode to being unemployed, Wham Rap (Enjoy What You Do). This is a full-on party starter.

Even ignoring the vocal samples, this tunes is loaded with big Italo sounds. The huge synth bassline will suck you straight into the tune. This direction, which seems to be becoming increasingly common amongst producers, of injecting frantic Italo into Nu-Disco (in post Dreamwave world) is one we wholeheartedly support, and the likes of Gigamesh and Punks Jump Up are leading the charge. Enjoy is everything we’d want from a Disco tune. Synth heavy (and we mean heavy), doesn’t take itself to seriously, very moreish. We’re really feeling Gigamesh on this one, the single also holds a reMix from Oliver, we can hardly contain ourselves.

Gigamesh’s Enjoy is released 12th Feb as a Beatport exclusive, and 26th March elsewhere on Nurvous Records.

[Audio] Aminova’s new tune

Aminova

Representing Wales amongst the Dreamwave crowd is one of the UK’s most underrated producers, we think so anyway, Aminova. Last years Variants EP cemented Aminova’s reputation as one of the leading lights of the second wave of SynthWave producers, and with this new tune, he’s showing us he has no intention of letting up.

Coconut Hologram sounds like a bizarre title for a track, but when you think about it it’s perfectly apt. The track weaves in a few tropical influences into it’s Sci-Fi sounds, resulting in a 31st century Disco tune with an extra layer of atmosphere. There a bit of Nu-retro-House in there too, which leaves you with a track that could be slotted, quite nicely, into almost any set. A Disco beat, and Italo bassline, big SynthWave leads and Tropical and House hooks, what more could you want to start the party?

[Audio] Phunktastike reMixes Auxiliary Tha Masterfader

Auxiliary Tha Masterfader

Dutch Disco guru Auxiliary Tha Masterfader is returning to On The Fruit Records very soon for a brand new EP, Music For Discotheques, and our first taste of what to expect from the analog groovemeister comes in the form of this reMix if one of the new EP’s track, Rule The Night, as reMixed by Argentina producer Phunktastike.

Phunktastike’s reMix of Rule The Night is as driving as the title suggests. A powerful slice of 80s DiscoPop in the vein of Moonlight Matters recent output, but with a little more swing. It’s arpeggio fuelled dancefloor gold with some big big vocals. All neon lights and mirrorballs, Phunktastike’s take on Rule The Night pounds out of the speakers as a gift to anyone who enjoys Italo influenced, dramatic Disco tunes.

[Audio] Satin Jackets & Eric Cozier’s new single

Satin Jackets

Germany’s king of laid back boogie Satin Jackets drops a brand new single next month. It’s another team up with his go-to guy for vocals, Eric Cozier, and this one injects a little classic SynthPop into their usual beach Disco world.

We say that because at times, amidst the bouncing Disco bass and shuffled beat, Boys & Girls occasionally feels a little bit Pet Shop Boys to our ears. Maybe it’s Cozier’s deadpan, nostalgic, vocal delivery or the Housieness to the rhythm, but there’s a definite air of mid-80s Pop to the track. Boys & Girls also doubles up on smooth grooves with the most relaxed of vintage Disco sounds, providing a little optimism to go with Cozier’s urban hymn. An awesome slice of dream Disco.

Boys & Girls is released 11th February with remixes by Daniel Solar & Andi De Luxe and A. Fox..

[Audio] MNDR reMixed by Robotaki

MNDR

Oh, go on then, we’ll have one more reMix of MNDR’s Feed Me Diamonds. Partly because we’re big MNDR fans, partly because we’re also pretty fond on Canadian groover Robotaki. But mostly because Robotaki has done a sterling job here, the best Disco version we’ve heard.

Robotaki has got a perfect grasp of Amanda’s vocals, and the rhythm of the song, as he completely retextualises her voice but allows it to keep it’s own intention. The vocals become a big sweeping Disco top line when presented with Robotaki’s 70’s synth disco. Expect loads of rapid percussion on ringing bells. The best way to describe it is to quote Robotaki: “Totally watched an old kung-fu flicks while this was being made.” There you go.

[MP3] Chordashian’s ‘Cold Nights’

Chordashian

Brooklyn funketeers Chordashian are getting into a House groove with their new tune, Cold Nights. In their own words the track is “Built to keep you warm”, and in these chilly months it does exactly that. A lush, warm House tune to wrap yourself in like a warm blanket.

Cold Nights delivers a pure nostalgic House experience, and that’s where the warmth comes from. It’s like a mixture of early an 90s Chicago warehouse track with bits of mid 90’s Orbital, all funky and familiar. Of course, Chordashian make the sound their own with some burning disco synth riffs that inject the track with a little gritty euphoria. Feeling warmer already.

[MP3] Lifelike & Kris Menace reMixed by Quinten 909

Lifelike & Kris Menace

It’s been a while since we had a new tune from Dutch Disco don Quinten 909, but here he is, to start you week boogieing, with a Funktastic reMix of  Lifelike & Kris Menace‘s, now classic, Discopolis.

Squelching up that instantly recognisable bassline and giving the beat a little disco shuffle, give the tune a lighter, groovier feeling, as opposed to the dancefloor stomp of the original. Full of nice filter sweeps and popping rhythms, Quinten 909 does a nice job of turning a big room monster into a laid back, pool party, jam. Get ready for some tasty bass.

[Audio] Lifelike reMixes Alan Braxe & The Spimes

Alan-Braxe

French Touch legend Alan Braxe is back and kicking off 2013 with a brand new single, not on his own Vulture Music imprint, but on the ever hip Scion Audio/Visual. Not only that, but the entire release is free too!

Once More Chance is a collaboration between Braxe and fellow Frenchmen The Spimes (what old school Kitsuné dude Romuald is doing now), and it’s not necessarily what you’d expect from the Nu-Disco pioneer. Slow and atmospheric, One More chance seems to share more common DNA with Chillwave that Braxe’s previous floorfillers. Don’t let that put you off though, it’s a beautiful, enveloping track that echoes with big reverby drums, swirling synths and Romuald hazy vocals. Oh, and there’s a Lifelike remix too. Boom. This sounds more like that track you were probably expecting. Gritty French Electro bass, and buzzsaw synths amidst a pounding beat. We could have probably done with a tiny bit less of the record flutter effect though, which gets a little tedious after three minutes. Still, you can’t say no to a rockin’ Lifelike reMix.
