Out today is the new single from London-based Italian ElectroDisco nutjobs Fanny Games. LApo Frost and James Brivido are regularly tearing it up across the capital (including making some noise while I was trying to launch an album) and are now ready to unleash their theme song, ‘In The Club (On The Street)’ on an unsuspecting listening public.
Throw Electro-House, Nu-Disco, Italo and French Touch into a blender set to decimate and this is the results. A juggernaut of a tune driven by Vocoded chanting and chainsaw synths. I get that the vocoded vocals are saying “In The Club (On The Street)”, but it sounds a lot like “Intruder Alert” from ‘Talking Android Attack’, one of the first computer games with voice synthesization on the Dragon 32, which actually kidna’ adds to the cool. ‘In The Club (On The Street)’ is a full-on dancefloor destroyer, and surprisingly melodic. reMix duties are covered by Luxar, who starts off with shuffling, fidgety ,beasts but soon warps the track into something more akin to Cosmic Disco with a weird, but funky, mixture of ‘90’s House elements and futuristic galactic voyages. Fanny Games live in a world of their own, if you decide to join them, and we suggest you do, tread carefully. No-one gets out of here alive.

We haven’t really heard from French producer Ace Attack in quite a while, but he’s just released a new EP, for free no less. And it just goes to prove that the man hasn’t been sitting on his laurels, he’s obviously been busy down in the studio and now it;s time for him to, as it says on the tin, come out of hiding.
The EP is basically a collection of reMixes, two of the tracks are billed as originals, but are based so strongly on existing tracks they might as well be reMixes too, in fact the EP is called ‘Ace Attack reMixes’. The lead track on the EP is ‘Out Of Hiding’, which is based on, or a reMix of, Pamela Stanley’s Italo/Hi-NRG classic ‘Coming Out Of Hiding’ from 1983. Ace Attack brings the track right up to date but keeps the retro flavour of the track. It’s a really good choice of vocal to use, realty period sounding and Ace Attacks works them for every drop of Italo goodness. While not actually doing much to the original track, Ace Attack certainly make it more friendly to contemporary dancefloors. The rest of the EP continues updating classic tracks, sometimes subtly in the case of ‘Running Back to You’, sometimes getting a complete makeover in the case of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. Renaming reMixes as original tracks is a bit weird, but you can’t fault the music, top quality retro Electro & Disco. Pick up the EP and find out.

Out this week is the new single from French SynthWave/Nu-Disco producer DiscoRazor, Golden Night’. Alongside reMixes from Judgement Dernier and Paul! you’ll find this tasty mix from the one and only Lueur Verte.
Lueur Verte brings his typical style of powerful, driven SynthWave to the track with a track worthy of soundtracking the most climactic of action sequences in the best of ‘80’s cinema. With a sense of urgency the track rolls forward, carried along by a punchy Italo bassline and some starlight synths. There’s a nice bit of digital guitar in there too to give the track some oomph, but ultimately the track wins out through Lueur Verte vintage sound and his attention to melody. The Frenchman keeps getting better and better.

It’s been ages since we last wrote about Cardiff based SynthWave producer Aminova, so with the release of his new double A-side single, ‘Body Double’/’Party Cops’ we thought now was the prefect time to revisit one of the UK’s most underrated producers.
‘Body Double’ is a piercing, driving slice of classic SynthWave. Drawing from both the Outrun and Italo end of things, Aminova crafts a tune that is both full of urgent dancefloor energy and rousing, emotional melodies. The way the lead lines switch from staccato riffs to rushing arpeggios and back again give the all too short track a real feeling for forward progression. the flip side, ‘Party Cops’ is definitely more on the Italo tip. With more of an ‘80’s Electro Funk groove ‘Party Cops’ is a call to dance. The bassline and arpeggios are actually quite reminiscent of mid-‘80’s electronic Soul, but layered with buzzsaw retro synth chords and an Italo beat the whole thing come across as a slightly chaotic, exciting, and again all too short, party starter. This sweet double A-Side single is available for free, you really can’t go wrong at that price, so what are you waiting for, go get it!

OK, so this is the third reMix of Goldroom and Chela’s ‘Fifteen’ we’ve featured this week, I think we’re going to tone it down a little from here on in. From now on reMixes are going to have to be pretty fucking outstanding for us to feature them, not that we wouldn’t feature anything less, but y’know, the bar for being featured has just gone up.
But we’re really diggin’ this mix from German producer Kelek. We’ve featured a few of his reMixes before, we love his slick ‘80’s Italo sound. What he’s done here that has particularly captured out imaginations is, either by chance or design, change the rhythm of the chorus. Now, most of the time when rEMix do this it;s a disaster, producers miss the ‘breath’ on the first beat or something and throw the timing off in terrible ways. Kelek’s shift of the chorus actually works though, and works well. It give the vocals a lazy drawl which kinda’ ties into the hazy reminiscent vibe of the track. Add to that Kelek’s rolling electronic track with it’s laser pads and bright lead line, it successfully captures the heart of the track, but in a very different way to the original.

So, here we are with the second instalment of our reMix cometition roundup, where we sift through the shit to find the gold so you don’t have to. The other big reMix competition running right now is Lifelike & Popular Computer current single. The robotic dance anthem ‘Getting High’. Let;’s take a look at who’s actually delivered a decent reMix, rather than phoning it in just to reMix a Lifelike track, shall we?
Of course Germany’s Final DJs have a track. You can’t have a reMix competition with a Final DJs entry. But you have to admit they are literally top of their game. Nine times out of ten they blow all the competition away and with their take on Lifelike & Popular Computers tune they are once again in the top tier if entries. Rocking that vocoded vocal for all it’s worth and produce a future dance track that combines the driving power of the original with Final DJs melodic leads and atmospheric pads. Collins’ ‘Children Of The Sky’ reMix mixes up a bit of Italo with a bit of Cosmic Disco to great effect and ends up sounding a bit like the theme tune to a late ‘70’s/early ‘80’s BBC children’s Sci-Fi’ series reworked for the dancefloor. Killer bassline! Tommy turns in a deep robotic bassline to go with the vocal which he layers with some inspiring pads and a shuffling beat. A real ‘80’s sounding SynthWave treat. Russian producer Lamet’s entry brings a rad ‘80’s Funk bassline to the track and works that through a retro SynthWave tune with hints of Jan Hammer.
