[MP3] Du Tonc’s ‘Rise’

du-tonc_thumb_thumb

And the unstoppable MiGHty mOUse and Matt Van Schie’s Du Tonc juggernaut keeps on going. This is the third track in as many months from the newly formed duo. With this new track, Rise, these guys appear to have just invented Goth-Italo-Disco. Check it out, you’ll see what we mean.

So, instantly, we can’t help but feel that Rise is channelling Bauhaus’ Bela Lugosi’s Dead, especially with the bass pattern, sped up a few revs and run through a Robo-Disco machine. On top the eerily familiar bassline a swathes of plucked Dubby guitar licks, shuffling purcussion and haunting wolf howls swirl about the track alongside arpeggios and a solid dancefloor kick making for a weird combination of the haunting and the Cosmic. Matt’s moody croon on this track just adds to the atmosphere. Prepare yourself for the spooktastic Hammer Horror chorus. It;s been a long time since anyone made Goth this funky.

[Audio] Pyramid reMixes Elephanz

Elephanz

French Sci-Fi SynthWaver has unleashed another slice of dramatic Pyramid Electro. This time he goes above and beyond the call of futuristic duty as he busts out a dystopian soundtrack reMix of Nantes Pop-Rock duo Elephanz’s Time For A Change.

The master of cinematic analog Electro delivers once again. Part slow burn dancefloor stormer, part Dark Future Sci-Fi accompaniment, the reMix delivered unremitting waves of unnervingly beautiful synthesizer melodies befitting the main titles of a Gibson novel move alongside bustling Inner City New York beats. The snatches of the originals are a largely superfluous, but welcome addition as Pyramid rocks a raw synth groove like no-one else.

[MP3] Night Drive (+ Bit Funk reMix)

Night Drive

OK, so you know how the whole driving imagery in SynthWave has been done to death, especially night driving. There’s a real backlash against it brewing. Anoraak released Nightdrive With You back in 2008 and every permutation of ‘driving’ and ‘night driving’ has been covered and copies and played out in the years since, the originality of it dies a death a long time ago. With that in mind, Night Drive is a truly terrible name for a retro synth act. However, please don’t let that put you off checking out the début single from Night Drive, as the name belies some truly awesome music.

Name aside, these guys are doing everything right. The look good (finally, a SynthWave act who understands the need for promo photos!), their artwork is cool without being clichéd and they can play live. Oh, and their début single, Drones, is pretty amazing. Mashing up SynthWave, Indie-Electro and ElectroPop in a head on collision, Drones is a high octane four minutes that immediately draws you in with a powering Italo bassline and rich vintage synths. With a catchy vocal, this is definitely one that’ll be stuck in your head all day. reMixes on the single come from Crystal Vision,Glasnost and this monster from Bit Funk who takes the energetic ElectroPop of the original and works it into a smooth, synthetic Disco tune that keeps the effortless cool of the original but leads it by the hand to some slinky dancefloor. Definitely a recommended release.

[MP3] Poolside’s ‘If We Make It’

Poolside

Here’s some sunkist summer vibes for your weekend courtesy of LA Dreamwavers Poolside. The duo are in the process of finishing up their second album, the follow up last year’s awesome Pacific Standard Time and If We Make It is to be out first taste, and the first single, from the new record. It also features on the forthcoming Scion A/V compilation Scion 10 Series Music Release.

If We Make It is sunshine bliss in a track. Sprinkled with a hint of nostalgia, the track floats along on a cloud of fluffy synths and airy vocals. No quite as Disco as previous offerings from this pair, If We Make It is more introspective, more dreamy and doesn’t suffer for it. A tune for relaxing in the sun, reminiscing with friends and generally not having a care in the world. Excited for the album..

[Audio] The Other Tribe’s ‘Your Kisses’

the-other-tribe_thumb

This is Your Kisses, a track that will be available exclusively with pre-orders of Bristol’s finest Indie-Electro rabble rousers The Other Tribe’s forthcoming new single My Girl. A soulful House track, this could have been a single in it’s own right, but who can turn down a freebie?

Nicely mixing up The Other Tribes’ infectious tribal EelctroPop with a slick deep House groove, Your Kisses is a perfect late night jam. There’s even a hint of a Torpical vibe in there too, which gives it a nice summery feel. Not that anything The Other Tribe turn their attention to doesn’t turn out summery as hell. If you get the chance to catch these guys live during the warmer months, you’d be a fool not to.

[Audio] Patchy’s début album

Patchy

We served up London based new ElectroPop artist Patchy’s Picnic video earlier this year. Picnic was her début single, and she’s already unleashed a whole album of material on the world. Released this week, Illuminations runs the gauntlet of electronic music influences and them packages them all up in a sweet Pop parcel.

Dreams, the albums opened delivers on this perfectly, from it’s shuffling beats to it’s big post-Dubstep warbling, it’s all made accessible by Patchy’s quirky and inviting voice. The bubbling and infectious single Picnic gives way to the almost Kraftwerkian beats and electronic pulses of Brixtonia and the magical garden Dub of Solutions. By this point in the album you’re beginning to fall into Patchy’s groove. Truly ecclectic and interesting electronic music with a Pop sugar coating that it quite a refreshing combination. The vocals are sweet and catchy and slightly introverted in a way that makes them appealing, but the music shows off some really intricate programming and arrangement and draws on a myriad of underground styles. There are, of course, big Pop moments, such as the sweeping Happy Dark Spirit but as the album serves up it’s final third it’s all complex and atmospheric synths, robotics beats and vocals that get more and more brooding. The tension is broken though as the record plays out on Starting Now, a track that injects Patchy with a Disco swing and a catchy piano hook. It;s a confident début for this young artist, a name we’ll be keeping an eye on form now on.

[MP3] Crystal Coast’ ‘Symphonie Des Grauens’

crystal-coast1

Back in February we introduced you to new Chillwave outfit Crystal Coast. Coming out of Tennessee and Georgia, this duo serve up a whole mess of swirling, hazy synth sounds. They’ve just dropped a brand new track, Symphonie Des Grauens, as a precursor to their forthcoming new EP.

Symphonie Des Grauens is in equal parts haunting and funky. A soft focus, downtempo, R&B beat underpins a tune full off ebbing and flowing synthesizers and buzzing drones. Coming together to to create a dreamlike musical haze, the track’s ethereal vocal weaves in and out of the soundtrack like a ghostly lament. Crystal Coast are quietly putting out some seriously good stuff, you should be paying attention.

[Audio] Hey Champ’s ‘Celebrate’

heychamp2013_thumb

It’s another new release from Chicago ElectroPoppers Hey Champ. Following Cliché and Comet in recent months comes Celebrate, and we’re really hoping things are working themselves toward a new album. With this track they’ve upped their stadium ElectroPop quota significantly.

Celebrate is a slight departure from the Hey Champ we’re used to, seeing the duo stretch their Indie-Electro and Classic SynthPop muscles over Nu-Disco/Dreamwave-esque sound, and the result is a warm slice of retro Pop with a huge, lighter-waving, chorus. The end result is kinda’ like a more contemporary American Indie Depeche Mode, in that it’s a big Anthemic slab of electronic Pop with a glistening of guitar.
