[Audio] Ayer’s ‘Black Diamond’

ayer

Brooklyn based Ayer, a collaboration between singer Danny Schmittler and Noosa album producer Mickey Valen, have unleashed a brand new single on the world. We loved their début tune, Circle Down and it’s follow up, Young; and this new track, Black Diamond, certainly continues in his trend of Erasure-meets-Brooklyn sound.

Kicking off with low key synth warbles and Danny’s dramatic vocals, Black Diamond soon builds into a full-on SynthPop epic. Majestic and sweeping; Ayer’s new single is catchy as hell in a smooth way. With a slight not to classic 80s SynthPop, in fact, not even SynthPop, just 80s Pop, in it’s unbridled theatricality this tune is a welcome addition to Ayer’s repertoire.

[Download] The Penelopes’ ‘Time To Shine’

The Penelopes

Massive. That’s the best word to describe the new single from London based French ElectroPop duo The Penelopes. Time To Shine has been released as a free download and is their first original release since their 2012 album Never Live Another Yesterday. In many ways it marks a district departure from the summery (and quite ‘of the time’) Indie-ElectroPop of their previous work as they morph into something more mature and rich.

The contrast here of the growling and moody sonic pallet and the euphoric, upbeat nature of the track is what really lets this track shine. Like The Sisters Of Mercy gone shiny ElectroPop, Time To Shine is brooding 80s power Rock preformed on shimmering synthesizers, with all the requisite pomp and circumstance. Chugging bass, gritty synths and Axel’s croon backed up with some huge, Morrison-esque female vox and squealing leads, this is stadium SynthPop at it’s finest.

Pegase Old Idol Official Video YouTube

The consistently brilliant Pégase finally released his début album earlier this year. Here’s the video for the Post-Punk-y retro ElectroPop meets Tropical Indie-Electro track Old Idol.

Marion Foucher directs the clip, which is all the kind of nostalgia and wonder we’d expect from an accompaniment to the track.

[Download] Mr. MMæn’s ‘Slow Love’ (+ Silenx reMix)

Mr. Mæn

Next up of France’s amazing On The Fruit Records, who are on a bit of releasing spree right now, is the new single from Norwegian SynthWaver Mr. Mæn. It’s been quite some time since we heard new material from this guy, and the new record doesn’t disappoint, coming packed with reMixes from Silenx and Pelifics, this is Slow Love.

This one is so smooth it hurts. A super nostalgic slice of laid back, silky, synthesizer love. Phil Collin’s style keys, synth Sax, and dreamy moods come together to make up this romantic soundtrack piece. A bit of a departure from OTF’s normal dancefloor oriented releases, but a welcome addition to their catalogue, Mr. Mæn shows off his more soulful and musical side, and we love it. The ever awesome Silenx up’s the tempo a bit with his take on the tune, whipping those feather-light keys into a shoulder shaking Italo groover, loaded with plumbing bass and full fat tones. We’ve been looking forward to this release for a while, it was definitely worth the wait.

[Video] Lily Allen’s ‘Sheezus’

Lily Allen Sheezus Official Video YouTube

Sheezus is the biting title track from Lily Allen forthcoming new album. A bass-booming slick of ‘fuck you’ Pop.

The video a kaleidoscopic rotoscoped 90s colour clash. Which strangely sinks in well with the song.

Lily Allen’s Sheezus is released 6th May.

The track Hearts On Fire is the subject of the new video from Ladytron’s Helen Marnie. It’s from her album Crystal World, one of our favourite records of last year and the Ladytron album we’d been waiting for.

The clip is directed by James Slater, who tempers the tracks epic scope with a simple, but effective, visual style.

[Audio] Hey Champ!’s ‘Dominoes’

heychamp

Here’s the new single from Chicago’s finest SynthPoppers, Hey Champ!. Released later this month, Dominoes was actually producers around the time of Cold Dust Girl but is only just now ready for release. Considering the relatively long career these guys have had, we reckon it’s time their acclaim kicked into a new gear; hopefully 2014 will be the year of Hey Champ!

Dominoes sees Hey Champs! rich ElectroPop imbued with a slight Kraftwerkian edge. The stuttering synth bassline is both competing and loaded with robot funk. Considering how long ago the track was born, it sound amazingly fresh, chock full of thick synths and an easy summertime groove. They way the machine like verses bleed into the warm and passionate chorus feels effortless amid this sea of sparking synths. Sunshine SynthPop at it’s best.

[Audio] The Presets reMix Kylie Minogue’s ‘I Was Gonna’ Cancel’

kylie-minogue-presets

I think someone’s been reading our secret wish-list, ‘cos The Presets have gone and turned in an official reMix for Kylie Minogue. I Was Gonna’ Cancel will be the second proper single from Kylie’s new album, Kiss Me Once, a track originally produced by Pharrell Williams, is given a left-field House makeover by the Australian masters.

The Presets take an abstract, warehouse, stab at the track; injecting a whole load of their own style into the mix. To a certain extent the tune sounds a lot like The Presets featuring Kylie Minogue, playing with a selection of The Presets trademark sonic flourishes; but Kylie’s voice amongst the experimental House groove adds an extra bit of sparkle. Unexpectedly deep.

[Audio] A.N.D.Y.’s ‘Minus One’

A.N.D.Y.

Minus One is the forthcoming new single from Belgian Housemeister A.N.D.Y.. The man had a pretty good 2013, culminating in the massive single Pump It Up. Now he’s setting his sights on 2014 and kicking things off big style with this new collaboration with vocalist Tayla Malcolm. Never one to sit on a genre, A.N.D.Y. drops some surprising sounds with this one.

Minus One launches with a Rootsy, Dub groove (which immediately makes us love it), before contacting with some pumping, deep, Piano House. This makes for a perfect platform for UK Singer Tayla, whose bluesy voice sits well with both the Dub and the House, lending a soulful slant to both. At it’s peak this track is all compelling vocals, warbling, bright snyths and an un-ignorable kick/piano combination. Looks like A.N.D.Y. has produced something that’ll be getting a lot of spins this summer.
