[Audio] Rocco Raimundo reMixes Stee Downes’ ‘Caught Up’

Stee Downes

Caught Up is the forthcoming new single from Nu-Disco vocal staple Stee Downes. Dropping in the middle of next month, the single, a funky slice of live Soul, comes with a loaded reMix package; the most interesting of which is this groove monster from the man Rocco Raimundo. Unfortunately the track is only available on the digital release, not having been included in the vinyl copy, which is a shame as we would have bought the 12” in a heartbeat if this was on there.

Raimundo serves up a mesmerising concoction of Disco, Italo and Tropical influences all riding on a rock solid House beat. A chest shaking subby bassline provides star contrast to an array of shimmering lead synths and a warming Tropical percussive hook. All working together, weaving in and out of each other, to produce a lush whole, these elements create the prefect backing for Downes neo-Soul vocal. With a laid back mood, but driving groove, this reMix is a crate essential.

[Audio] Julio Bashmore’s ‘Simple Love’

Julio Bashmore

Bristol House guru Julio Bashmore’s forthcoming new album is set to drop early next year. The first single from the upcoming record will be Simple Love, a tune featuring the vocal talents of J’Danna. Premièring on Annie Mac’s show this past weekend, the tune is sure to mop up the remains of Festival season and destroy club dancefloors well into winter.

Loaded with Bashmore’s trademark booming basslines, Simple Love is an intoxicating five minutes of laid back beats and bass. Appropriately titled, the track is deceptively simple with a sparse groove and hypnotic repetition that draws you into it’s filtered goodness. J’Danna’s husky vocals adds a little spice to the mix as part of a track that never once tried too hard to be anything. It just simply is.

[Audio] Ali Jamieson reMixes Christianoshi’s ‘Fake Blood’

Christianoshi

London SynthPopper Christianoshi’s Trademark produced track Fake Blood first graced these pages a couple of years ago, and like his other tune, Trust, has got itself a re-release. Except this time he’s enlisted Disco renaissance man and political satirist Ali Jamieson to drag the track a couple of years into the present. Out money is on I Feel Sick being the next Christianoshi release, then he’ll be disappearing for a couple of years to write three new tunes.

Ali get’s his House groove on with this new one; in fact, at times the track veers into the realms of (dare we say it) Techno and even EBM. Amid all the Germanic arpeggios and chopped up vocals it’s reassuring that the tracks rests on a skippy House beat to keep you moving. Layered with a nice line in 90s space-y pads; a Dub version of the tune could nicely fit along side the likes of Orbital in that kind of early-to-mid 90s tough-but-ambient era of dance music. It’s a good job then, that a sweet Dub version of the reMix is also available for your downloading and dancing pleasure.

[Download] Avec Sans cover Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’

Avec-Sans

No sooner had the UK’s ElectroPop finest, Avec Sans, unleashed their brand new single, All Of Time, than they another mighty slab of Synthy Pop goodness. This time in the form of a sparking cover of the legendary Kate Bush’s Running Up that Hill. Now, you’d kinda;’ expect the ‘Sans’ bristling Electro sound not to be so compatible with the ‘Bush’s ethereal Pop, but boy do they make it their own!

Give yourselves a few listens to this on repeat and you’ll start to forget what the original sounded like without all the spikey arpeggios and Alice’s dusky vocal performance. Subtle tribal bests power the track along, imparting an epic drive while James delivers waves of buzzing and shimmering synths. Alice doesn’t try to replicate Kate Bush’s tone, rather usurps the track for her own heartfelt style. Amazing work; like we said, they really make it their own.

[Audio] Mitch Murder’s ‘Breeze’

Mitch Murder

Our vinyl copy SynthWave pioneer Mitch Murder’s new Mad Decent released album, Interceptor, has still not shown up. Apparently they’ve been delayed ‘til October now! what few quality pressing plants there are left are struggling to cope with the resurgence of interest in vinyl releases it seems. In the meantime we’ll have to console ourselves with his brand new (old) single, Breeze.

After a recent crop of vintage video game inspired tune, Breeze takes us back to a classic Mitch Murder groove. Smooth and soulful, this is a tune to soundtrack your lazy summer afternoons in a retro style. The optimistic synths and starlight chimes ooze 80s cool. After the track has has suitable time to introduce you to it’s laid back electronic vibe, it sweetly delivers a brain melting synth solo, the kind that leys were made for, and take you to the next plane of musical existence. Now…where’s that vinyl?!?!

tesla-boy_thumb1

Remember how Russian ElectroPop heroes Tesla Boy’s last album, The Universe Made Of Darkness, was one of our favourite albums of 2013? Well now that amazing record is getting spiced up by all manner of reMixes in the just released The Universe Made of Darkness: Night Version. On the new album you’ll find work from he likes of Xinobi, Piorneerball and 7th Myriads. To celebrate the release the guys have dropped this reMix of Paraffin from the superb Cosmonaut Grechko.

Grechko get’s his House on in a major way. The man’s latest tunes have all been incredibly complex Chicago House jams that feel totally authentic whilst bringing the sound up to speed, and that’s what he does right here. Full of Grechko’s popping purcussion and deep, warbling bass, the track flows perfectly with Anton’s vocal and injects it with a piano hook as classic as any you’ve heard.

[Audio] Borneland reMix Ena’s ‘Deep Seas’

Ena

Jonas & Micki, A.K.A Danish production duo Borneland have been gradually drip feeding a whole load of killer reMixes in the past few months, and with their latest they’ve really outdone themselves. The latest muse for their skills is the current, and début solo, single from ex-Fagget Fairys’ Elena Cosovic, now going by the name of Ena. The track’s called Deep Seas and Borneland certainly take both the deep and the seas to heart on this one.

It you’re looking for something pulsating and synthetic then look no further. Elena’s vocal is a near perfect husky croon. Smokey, sublime and effortlessly eased into Borneland’s laid back Disco groove. A pure summer evening vibe permeates the whole tune; from it’s solid dancefloor rhythm to it’s layers of sweet, warm synths Borneland’s reMix of Deep Seas conjures a carefree, lazy Disco atmosphere and a rich soundtrack.

[Video] Charli XCX’s ‘Break The Rules’

Charli XCX Break The Rules Official Video YouTube

This time last week Charli XCX gave us the first taste of her just announced sophomore album, Sucker. That track, the rabble-rousing Break The Rules, has now itself a video.

A video which is almost exactly what you would expect. Whilst the song, and the clip, are pretty awesome, we’re kinda’ hoping that Charli’s recent assentation to US collaborative fame doesn’t stop her from being the producer of some of the most interesting Pop around. The occasional Break The Rules is great; but more Nuclear Seasons and You’re The One please.

Charli XCX’s Sucker is released 21st October.
