[Audio] IV

IV

IV (we’re not sure if that’s ‘4’, or ‘Intravenous’) is anew Parisian Horror Disco (their words) duo featuring one half of Kitsuné releasers Logo. They’ve just released their début EP, titled The Place Where We Were Hidden on Mental Groove Records. In the tradition of some great atmospheric movie synth in France right now (think: Pyramid) IV bring beats, synths and a cinematic tension.

The EP is three tracks, two originals and a reMix (which, really, makes it a double A-side single), the originals being Alaska and Doppelganger. These guys create a brooding atmosphere of dread whilst keeping things pretty upbeat. Taking cues from the likes of John Carpenter and grooves from Moroder, IV build undulating waves of vintage synths to fill you with fear whilst making you dance. Alaska combines the best in dark Italo beats and late 70s/early 80s synthesizer soundtrack music, with a compelling rhythm section and haunting melodies it really sets the tone for IV’s work. Doppelganger delivers a more pounding beat and leans slightly more in the direction of what you might expect from French Electro, with one foot in the Ed Banger camp, whist keeping all of it;s eerie Horror soundtrack credentials. Check out something dark and different, that still makes you dance.

[Audio] Sharooz’s ‘90907’

Sharooz

90907 is the new tune from London TurboFunk master Sharooz. The man has gone completely hardware based on this one. Rocking up with a Roland TR909, Roland TR707, Roland SH101, Roland Juno 106, Yamaha DX7 and Teenage Engineering OP-1 this one has no softsynths, no plugins, and is completely analog (well, except for the DX7 and OP-1). We love it when people break out the big guns.

What this result in is a grinding slab of Acid Funk. 90907 powers through with a grimy, hypnotic, tweaked bassline and abrasive drums. With just that right mix of infectiously danceable and slightly haunting (in that was that the best classic Acid tracks always are), Sharooz has hit the nail on the head here. It’s one of those tracks to get lost under the flashing lights to.

We previewed Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’s Kraftwerky new single, Metroland, last month, now here’s the brand new video for the track.

It’s a beautifully animated clip, possibly making a point about urban advancement, or progress, or something. Looks nice though.

OMD’s Metroland is released  25th March 25, witht he album following on 9th April.

[Audio] Silenx’s ‘Connections’

Silenx

Our favourite Portuguese export, SynthWaver extraordinaire Silenx, recently released a brand new single. Connections is something a little more laid back, a little more chilled, from this usually upbeat producer. Prepare yourself of some synthesizer bliss.

With shining chimes and lazy melodies, Silenx conjures a smooth vibe. Laying down a crawling bassline to underpin the track, Silenx uses layers of gentle tones and half-heard hooks to create a dreamlike haze of pleasing sounds with a no-problems 80s groove. A bit different from his usual stuff, but if you’re having a bad day, this will soothe you.

[Audio] Ghost Beach remixed by Gigamesh

Ghost Beach

It still a couple of weeks until New York duo Ghost Beach release their Modern Tongues reMix EP, but we’ve already heard a few of the reMixes included. Here’s the next in line. We’re were groovin’ to his massive last single, Enjoy, and Minneapolis’ finest, Gigamesh, drops this beautiful reMix of Miracle. Part of the reMix album, this tune was so good they actually released it as a single last week via Spotify.

Eschewing his usual high energy Nu-Disco on favour some something a little more reflective, Gigamesh weaves an emotionally rich tapestry of intertwining synth lines and pads. It’s a bassy track that conjures a rich introspective mood. Pitching down the vocals a bit ads the the anthemic feel, it’s just a song that you can;t help but connect with. Undulating synth riffs playing against deep booming kicks whit that heartfelt vocal is an amazing combination. The reMix EP can’t come quick enough.

[Video] Foxes’ ‘Unknown’

Foxes The Unknown New Demo 2013 YouTube

This is the latest, well…nothing, from London singer/songwriter Foxes. It’s a demo from her forthcoming début album. It’s not a new single, the video isn’t even an actual video. But it’s all pretty amazing.

The footage was all shot on Foxes’ tour of the UK, US and Europe, and is basically her and her band mucking about to one of the best ElectroPop tracks of the year. really. This is like 2007 good.

Foxes début album is due out this year.

[MP3] The Boy & Sister Alma’s début single

The Boy & Sister Alma

The Boy & Sister Alma are a brand new ElectroPop outfit out of Montana making some a noise with elements of 80s Pop, avant-Pop and Indie-Electro. they’ve just released their début single, the atmospheric and euphoric Lizard Eyes. Début singles are always a tricky proposition. I’s like your manifesto, introducing yourself and telling the world what you are about, The Boy & Sister Alma have done pretty well picking their premiere soundtrack.

Lizard Eyes is a laid back, haunting at times, slice of ElectroPop that manages to walk the line between 80s Retro Pop and IndiePop. Lilting vocals over an almost Italo SynthWave backing makes for an unusual combination, but works really well. There’s even a rockin; guitar solo in there it keep even the staunchest of 80s epic purist happy. All-in-all it’s a little rough around the edges, but The Boy & Sister Alma are definitely an act that shows promise, and we’re interested to see where they go from here.

[MP3] Jupiter reMixed by Mr. Gonzo

Jupiter

French Nu-Disco producer Mr. Gonzo is on a roll right now. Hot on the heels of his storming new single with Romuald, Gon Be A Thrill, his is the first reMix to break cover from the long rumoured Jupiter reMix album. The amazing Parisian ElectroPop duo have roped in a star studded cast to rework their Juicy Lucy album of last year. Mr. gonzo will be rubbing shoulder with the likes of Little Boots, Yan Wagner, Para One & Tacteel, JBAG, Juveniles, The Supermen Lovers, Steve Moore, Marius, and Colour Vision, which is quite scary company. Let’s see how he does.

Elliot Uppercut, one of the standouts on a stand out album, is the track Gonzo gets to grips with and fully delivers on smooth and sexy French Touch Disco. Despite being quite high energy, Mr. Gonzo manages to keep things on a laid back tip using lush synths and a sliding Disco bassline to their fullest. Amélie’s vocals sound as sweet as ever as the glide over. The synths in this reMix are so think, they melt into the track like chocolate, creating this delicious Disco ooze. This is a track mirrorballs were invented for. It’s so brilliant it’s like an audio lens-flare
