[Audio] Selebrities’ ‘Temporary Touch’

Selebrities

Here’s a lush bit of Shoegaze SynthPop to help soften the edges of the mid-week. Brooklyn four piece Selebrities have unleashed the first new track from their forthcoming second LP Lovely Things. To be released by those fine folks at Cascine, our first flavour of what’s to come is delivered in the form of the swirling Temporary Touch.

It’s a track that makes me feel seventeen again, as it wraps up the best in British early 90s Shoegaze in a bouncy electronic blanket. Temporary Touch slips along with Indie sensibilities and a pulsating synth bassline accompanied by a swathe of post-Chillwave soundscaping. But the hook here is the song, and Maria Usbeck introspective vocal, which have the ability to draw you right into Selebrities world and makes you feel like it’s 1993 again.

Selebrities’ Lovely Things is set for release 25th June on Cascine.

[Video] Goin’ Old School: Soul II Soul, Robert Palmer & Nine Ways To Win

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

First up today it;s one of our favourite tracks from London’s Soul II Soul. The track that started it all, 1988’s Fairplay, featruing Rose Windross.

Here’s Robert Palmer’s synth driven Johnny And Mary from 1980.

And lastly some obscure British Pop from 1983 and Nine Ways To Win’s Close To You.

[Audio] L’Equipe Du Son reMixed by Moustache Machine and Final DJs

L’Equipe Du Son

Dutch Disco don L’Equipe Du Son, still riding high on his recently released Transmissions album, is gearing up for the release of that records first single featuring the tracks Le Rocker and Snowballing and a whole host of reMixes. We already hit you with Emeron & Fox’s take in Le Rocker last month, so let’s check out two of the single’s other highlights featuring work from one of our favourite Parisian producers Moustache Machine and Germany’s finest, Final DJs.

Moustache Machine works his slick French groove on Le Rocker and morphs the track from a rough Electro stomper into an enticing robo-Disco floorfiller. Powered in equal parts by a driving, arpeggiated Italo bassline and a twisting Continental synth Funk hook. Working each element perfectly, Moustache Machine whips up a cyborg Disco storm that just keeps assaulting you with layers of intertwining melodies. Final DJs take on Snowballing and bring their synth love to the table on full effect. The SynthWave duo keep it steady and deliver waves of lush, warm synths and irresistible vintage beats. It;s a packed reMix package, six tracks, that makes a great compliment to the album.

This is Axis, the first single from SynthPop legends Pet Shop Boys long awaited new album Electric, and it;s insanely good. A modern-Moroder robo-Disco epic with a B-Boy breakdown. Produced by Stuart Price too.

Check the video, a retro future freak-out that is absolutely perfect for the track. A neon, dreamlike, playground that’s lasertastic.

[Audio] Serj V’s ‘Extreme Night’

Serj V

The Russians are back! Once again some of the best Dreamwave and Nu-Disco around is coming from Russia, this time in the form of the new single from St. Petersburg’s Serj V. The oddly titled Extreme Night is released next month and comes equipped with a host of reMixes from some of Russia’s up and coming talent.

Extreme Night, despite it’s rather aggressive title, is a smooth slice of laid back Boogie. Loaded with thick, warm bass and atmospheric chords, it’s a dreamy tune that flows like water. As silky synths rub shoulders with a slick House beat and echoing arpeggios the track delivers it’s vacation groove in the form of a rolling purcussion accompaniment. The reMix package hold a whopping seven reMixes containing some classic House and Disco cuts. The standouts, for us, are Homkore Chicago House take on the track, Mikael Fas’ laid back mix that up’s the Boogie factor, Olej’s heavy LA Funk meets Cosmic Disco rendition and  Eclectic Sound’s mix, which rounds of the EP with some chilled G-Funk and bouncy synth Disco. It’s a really solid collection of tunes, with a style to fit into most summer nights DJ sets.

[Audio] Lamet’s ‘Bon Voyage’

Lamet

More from Russia’s synth Disco wizardry now with this amazing new Tune from Lamet. Hot on the heels of his True Stories EP of late last year, the Moscow based producer is slowly building a new collection of tracks, including this, the beautifully atmospheric House track Bon Voyage.

Bon Voyage hit just the right note for a toward-the-end-of-the-night track. A late night jam full of warehouse mystery whist still keeping a Nu-Disco groove. Additionally, there’s a hint of a Tropical vibe in the mix. With it’s many feet in many styles of music, Bon Voyage jockeys them all and wraps them up in an irresistible, warm, House tune that’ll have them leaving with a smile on their faces. Just listen, you’ll get what we mean.

[Audio] Rex The Dog’s ‘Bonn’

Rex The Dog

This is Bonn, Rex The Dog’s Record Store Day opus. Released on the auspicious day in a limited quantity of 300 12”s with hand etched sleeves, Bonn will (thankfully, for those who missed out) also see a digital release next month via Southern Fried Records. Rex really is the don when it comes to funky analog workouts and Bonn exemplifies this.

Bonn is a huge dancefloor monster. At times Poppy, at times Acidic, at times dirty Electro. During the course of it’s seven minute length it keeps quite a strong Minimal Synth feel, but applies these sensibilities to a dark dancefloor groove. A grinding, hypnotic, synthetic juggernaut that is relentless in delivering it’s mesmerising hooks. Also, sounds like it was a hell of a lot of fun to produce too, which is nice.

[Video] Annie’s ‘Tube Stops & Lonely Hearts’

Annie Tube stops and lonely hearts YouTube

Norwegian ElectroPop songstress Annie launched back onto our radar just before the weekend with this, the video for her forthcoming new single Tube Stops & Lonely Hearts. With a touch of Xenomania and a pounding, almost Industrial beat, the track is an amazing, catchy, contradiction.

White Tiger Amateurs directed the video, which is as stripped down as the track itself. As far as Pop goes, this is challenging, interesting stuff.
