[MP3] You Love Her Coz She’s Dead’s ‘Be Brave’

You Love Her Coz She’s Dead

It’s been a rough couple of years for Brighton based ElectroPunks You Love Her Coz She’s Dead culminating in the departure of singer Elle. Now, complete with new vocalist Poppy, the duo are set to release their first single in two years. There’s a lot riding on this release, YLHCSD have to reassert themselves after a long absence and reassure that Poppy works as a Elle replacement. Thankfully Be Brave delivers on both those counts.

Be Brave is You Love Her Coz She’s Dead back and fighting fit. Big stomping, slightly euphoric, dance tracks with some over-excitable shouty vocals, all present and correct, and really, what more do you want from a YLHCSD track? Be Brave is, surprisingly (surprisingly because we weren’t sure what to expect with this comeback), one of You Love Her Cos She’s Dead strongest tracks to date. This is a huge return to the scene. And, yes, we still think they are better than Crystal Castles.

[Audio] Disclosure & London Grammar’s ‘Help Me Lose My Mind’ reMixed by Paul Woolford

disclosure_thumb

UK Producer of the moment Paul Woolford has turned in this glorious head nodding reMix of Disclosure’s London Grammar featuring Help Me Lose My Mind. A reMix so good it’s getting it’s own release alongside a Dub version int he coming weeks. What happens when you mix up Disclosure’s UK Deep House with an infectious old school piano hook? Dancefloor insanity, that’s what!

Snappy beats dominate the track, part Chicago, part Garage, the pop away in the background laying the foundations for layers of spacious synths. Take the piano and bass away from Woolford’s mix of Help Me Lose My Mind and it’s quite a floaty, dreamlike tune, but that razor sharp bassline and rolling, infectious, House piano keep the track constantly in sharp focus. Hannah Reid ethereal vocals are just the icing on the cake.

[Audio] Monsieur Adi & A*M*E’s ‘What’s Going On?” reMixed by The Knocks

Monsieur Adi

The man like Monsieur Adi and his stunning break for mainstream attention, What’s Going On?, has finally got itself a release date, and the first sign of reMixes too. The A*M*E tune is already making huge waves and getting a serious amount of airplay, this one looks like it could propel Adi to superstardom, and well deserved too, we’ve said it numerous times, Adi is one of the most talented producers around. Check out what New York Disco duo The Knocks did to the track.

The Knocks give What’s Going On? a breezy House workout with a Disco groove. Revolving around a funkin’ bassline and hands-in-the-air piano hook, The Knocks’ reMix utilises A*M*E’s big vocals to their fullest, making the whole reMix sound huge. There’s nothing like a piano riff and diva vocals to get the party started. While you’re here, peep this version from Max Sanna And Steve Pitron, it’s a pretty standard club affair, not really bringing much originality to the table but I guess Sony, a major label, wanted to keep things safe to a certain degree. Who knows, you might dig it.

[Audio] Jigsaw Puzzle Glue

Jigsaw Puzzle Glue

Jigsaw Puzzle Glue is the one woman project of Seattle based Leah Rosen. It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything that is self-proclaimed “80’s soundtrack inspired”, but not part of the SynthWave scene, and it’s refreshing. Taking those core elements that definite 80’s synth movie music, but making them truly her own, Jigsaw Puzzle Glue makes something magical and retro without being bogged down by the past decade of the SynthWave scene sounding more and more like itself (rather than like the 80s). This mixture of 80s influences and scene-free experimental freedom produces something that is comfortable and familiar yet at the same time fresh.

Take Jue De La Vie, you’ll immediately see Jigsaw Puzzle Glue has more in common with SynthWavers the likes of Com Truise or Computer Magic than Miami Nights 84 or Tommy. This is a celebration of vintage synth sounds. Neatly layered waves of alternating buzzing leads and reverb washed pads ebb and flow throughout the tracks, exchanging space in the song as they do so. With a slightly futuristic edge, a somewhat BladeRunner-y chorus, Jue De La Vie manages to remain grounded, and surprisingly personal and human for an instrumental synth tune. The Never Beginning Story presents a slightly more majestic side to Jigsaw Puzzle Glue, slightly more cinematic. Uplifting in places, brooding in others, The Never Beginning Story is powerful stuff. For a little more traditional SynthWave fare try Waltz, with it’s Industrial jackhammer beats and growling synth bassline. We should mention too, the production on these tracks is pretty fine, quite spacious, never feeling cluttered. All-in-all Jigsaw Puzzle Glue is definitely a name to keep an eye on.

[Video] Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip’s ‘Gold Teeth’

GOLD TEETH by dan le sac vs Scroobius Pip and Flux Pavilion YouTube

This is the new video for the forthcoming Gold Teeth single from Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip. The product of a collaboration with Flux Pavilion is taken from the duos forthcoming third album Repent, Replenish, Repeat and was débuted at Bestial earlier this month (we know this fact because we were there)

Directed by Scroobius Pip and in his own words “This is what the classic “Rapper in a strip club” video would look like if half the industry didn’t lie about how rich they were”, which is so true and pretty hilarious.

[Audio] Bright Light Bright Light’s ‘An Open Heart’

Bright Light Bright Light

Bright Light Bright Light tends to release a lot of material, mashups, reMixes, alternate version of tracks, mixtapes, but it’s been a while since we’ve had an actual brand new release from BLx2. Giving his début album, Make Me Believe In Hope, sink in was probably a good idea. Well, here we are with the first single from his second album, An Open Heart

‎The track comes from Bright Light Bright Light’s forthcoming In Your Care EP and was written and produced alongside Ian Kenneth from Trouser Enthusiasts (who you may remember us being pretty excited about Rod rediscovering them for the reMix of Waiting For The Feeling). It’s a bright, sparkling slice of ElectroPop with a definite mid-90s Pop-Trance vibe which provides a nice counterpoint to Rod’s slightly melancholic vocals. Starlight lead lines are perfectly balanced by a throbbing bassline in this classic sounding four minutes of Dance Pop. Looking forward to the new EP now!

[Audio] DCup & Mereki’s ‘Don’t Be Shy’

Dcup

Out this week is the new single from Australian Disco-House producer DCup. Featuring the vocals of ElectroPop artist and Goldroom collaborator Mereki, Don’t Be Shy comes with a packed collection of reMixes from the likes of Wave Racer, Tyler Touche, Boys Get Hurt, and Slumberjack, but it’s the original version that really pops with a summertime groove.

A light touch of plucked guitar glides over this thick bassed floorfiller. Loaded with filtered synths, singing strings and a laid back Disco beat, Don’t Be Shy provides the perfect, carefree, poolside party backing for Mereki’s sweet vocals. The combination of the pulsating synth bass and the playful vocal gives Don’t Be Shy that certain je ne sais quoi that the best late night, good times, Disco has to deliver, and this one delivers it in heaps.
