Xtrafunk’s new tune

Here’s the new one from German smooth groove-meister Xtrafunk. Missing Words comes hot on the heels of his acclaimed reMix of Goldroom’s Fifteen and keeps the laid back Disco momentum going, adding a little Housey vibe to the mix.

Missing Words is the prefect antidote to any stresses in your life, there’s no way you can stay wound-up with this tune playing. It just lets you sink into it’s slick Disco licks, warm synths and relaxed House beat. With easy, breezy, beach Funk like this, you can practically feel the waves lapping at your toes. Lie back, crank it up, and let your worries drain right out of you. Smooth.

Todd Terje & Lindstrøm

Lindstrøm

A couple of weeks ago Norwegian Housemeister Todd Terje released a couple of extended edits of  Lindstrøm’s recent  A-Side Eg-Ged-Osis/Ra-Ako-St. Fellow Norwegian Lindstrøm had already roped Terje in to mix the tracks anyway, so whipping up a couple of Edits seems thing the thing to do. What results is some seriously epic, sweeping, atmospheric Disco.

Eg-Ged-Osis is the more hypnotic dancefloor trance inducer of the two. An undulating, repeating, Acidic groove runs through the track. It takes elements from Balearic and euphoric Trance, but works then in Disco, and strangely Scandinavian, ways. Building and building and building, whipping any dancefloor into a frenzy, Eg-Ged-Osis is relentless in it’s hands-in-the-air groove. Ra-Ako-St is more dramatic and majestic. Rooted in Cosmic Disco the track kicks off with a gritty Italo bassline that soon gives way to more House and Disco oriented tropes and a whole layer of Sci-Fi synths. It’s a space-age voyage through uncharted galaxies, cinematic, but funky as hell. This double A-side might just be the surprise hit of the year in certain dimly lit Disc haunts in the capital.

Bedmo Disco and Awon

Bedmo Disco

The Bedminster Disco collective Bedmo Disco recently released a new split EP with fellow Bristolian Awon, it’s four tracks of full on Boogie. Just in-case someone didn’t notice, the chaps are giving away a free new track, Take A Bow, to draw attention to the B-Funk EP.

Take A Bow is the result of a back and forth collaboration between Bedmo Disco and Awon. In their own words; “Said track was produced by Awon. It was re-edited by Bedmo Disco, then re-produced (after the original files got lost) by Awon. We’ve been playing it on and off in our sets for about six months and it always goes down well.”. It’s a  big, undulating, slice of deep funk with a body shaking Disco bassline and some sweet, piercing retro synth work. The B-Funk EP itself hold four tracks of modern Electro Boogie flavoured Disco. The début original tunes from both Awon and Bedmo Disco, all four tracks are supremely confidently produced and the record is loaded with squelchy synth Funk basslines and stabbing nostalgic synths. The highlights have to be Awon’s, Startime, a track rolling in cosmic groove and wicked Disco licks, and Bemo Disco’s own Illusion. Illusion is a nice head-on collision between analog Disco and B-Boy Electro. Keeping it sexy on the dancefloor bit injecting it with just a little Electro-Funk flavour in the leads. Four track well worth your attention.

Shit Hot SoundSystem’s new EP

shit-hot-soundsystem

London’s Nu-Disco rising star Shit Hot SoundSystem is gearing up for the release of a brand new EP in the coming months. Three new cuts of late night, summer fun Disco House await all who choose the Shit Hot Soundsystem road. This guys release just keep getting better and better.

The InYourLovin EP kicks off with it’s title track. InYourLovin is the epitome of Shit Hot SoundSystem. Walking the line between edit heavy Nu-Disco and the more electronics laden Dreamwave end of the genre InYourLovin rocks both sampled Disco riffs and lush retro synth work. It never feels over stuffed though, everything sits sweetly in the track and the result is dancefloor gold. 21st Century Disco. Late Night Club Night brings the synthier side of Shit Hot SoundSystem more to the fore and brings an Italo flavour to his work. A deep robotic groove with some majestic, cinematic orchestration lends the track an ominous, but hella funky, vibe. Once again, the Disco riffs and synths combine on the EPs remaining tune, Phosphenes, a breezy slice of party Nu-Disco. Phosphenes layers it’s bouncy groove with a serious vintage Italo riff which should seem out of place, but in fact fits right in the mix and makes this track something special. We’re really digging this direction for Shit Hot SoundSystem and looking forward to the EP release.

Casio Social Club’s ‘Crush’

When is a reMix not a reMix? How much of the original needs to remain intact for it to be a reMix, or how little should be there before you can claim it as an original tune, and sell it as such? It’s a debate we had on Twitter this weekend. Honestly we’re not sure, if the entire vocal of a track, verse, chorus, verse, chorus is present with a new backing, is that a reMix or an original? For now, we’re on the fence, but it is something that crosses our minds from time to time. A pertinent discussion as it turns out, as one of our favourite UK producers Casio Social Club, Mullet Records head honcho Justin Winks,  soon releases his track Crush.

The Jets 1985 hit Crush On You is one of our guilty pleasures, it always puts us in a good mood. It has graced these pages on more than one occasion, and reMix or not, we do love a good updating of the tune. Casio Social Club’s new version of the track, Crush,  is pure Electro Boogie joy with a Piano House injection. It’s got that Casio Social Club style we love so much, those retro beats and funky as hell digital bassline, here complimented by an infectious piano line and the sing-along catchiness that is Crush On You. Ahead of the release, Mullet are kindly giving away the Radio Edit of the track. This track is the epitome of summer DiscoPop fun, don’t worry about it, just enjoy.

Casio Social Club – Crush (Radio Edit)

Casio Social Club’s Crush is released 7th August as a Juno exclusive followed by worldwide release on the 14th via Mullet Records.

The Louder The Better’s ‘Voices’

The Louder The Better

The Louder The Better is the musical pseudonym of Andrew De La Fuente, La Dreamwave producer. He’s been getting a fair bit of hype in the last few months, deservedly too. His tunes perfectly capture the laid back LA groove, especially his latest jam, Voices.

With an undulating, rich bassline complimented bit little Disco licks, Voices is a perfectly balanced production. Capturing that mood of what everyone who doesn’t live in LA thinks LA is like, or at least the do if they listen to enough Dreamwave and Nu-Disco. This is a soulful slice of synthetic Disco, designed for partying in the sun, warm and inviting and ringing out with smooth melodies. The Louder The Better indeed!

Quixotic’s ‘Golden Boy’

quixotic

Hungarian Dreamwave producer Quixotic has once again rolled a whole heap if influences into one dancefloor groover. This time it’s not galactic Funk that dominates his work it’s a cool summery vibe.

Golden Boy rocks in the Italo and SynthWave direction you’d expect from this guy, but rolls in a little Tropical sheen, we’d go so far as saying there’s a little of the Balearic to this tune. Particularly in the percussion, which brings a smooth island flavour to the track. Atop all this is a thumping digital House bassline and some space piano mixing it up with with the Dreamwave synths and the rousing 80’s lead line. It’s about SynthWave embraces the summer!

Of Monsters & Men

Of Monsters & Men

We’d say New Your Disco duo The Knocks were a reasonable big name, I expect their reMixes don’t come cheap in any case. So if the like your song enough to do an unofficial reMix of it, that strikes us as quite a big deal. This is exactly what they’ve done with Icelandic Folk band Of Monsters & Men’s tune Little Talks.

Apparently this Indie Rock tune was, or is, huge and there’s loads of reMixes of it. Honestly it’s the first we’ve heard of either the band or the song, I guess we just don;t run in those circles. We gave the original a quite listen, a bit bland, not our cup of tea. Cutesy Folk just doesn’t float our boat. But The Knocks get to grips with the track in a supremely skilful manner. Eschewing faux quaintness for a solid New York Disco groove, sweeping cosmic synths and and 80’s synth stabs. The whole script flip of the track give the vocals a new lease of life. No longer listless they are now a catchy refrain. See what Disco does for you!
