[MP3] Ruben & Ra edit The Style Council

The Style Council

It Didn’t Matter is one of the very few songs by The Style Council that doesn’t make me want to punch Paul Weller in his stupid smug face. I’ve always thought it was an awesome song if you can block from your mind who is performing it. I don’t know of edit masters Ruben & Ra feel the same, but the must like the track as they have whipped up a quick edit of the track.

The original is pretty much intact here, Ruben & Ra haven’t really done much to the tune. there’s an added House beat, which actually does the track wonders. The occasional new synth, but the track is more or less the same as it has always been. Still, a nice improvement to a nice song, and one very east to get suck on repeat.

[Audio] MiGHty mOUse’s ‘Love Is Gonna Lift You Up’

MiGHty mOUse

The king of spacey Disco MiGHty mOUse releases a brand new single at the end of the month. Which means we’ll probably be grooving to this all throughout March. On Love Is Gonna Lift You Up, the mOUse works his Cosmic magic on a bit of recent Bobby Womack with a track, already reworked by Basement Jaxx and Julio Bashmore, from his album of last year, The Bravest Man In The Universe. The idea to release it as a single, with a new vocals, was born during a Sunday lunch between MM and Cheap Thrills head honcho Hervé. We find Sunday lunches are where the best ideas come from.

MiGHty mOUse’s  take on the tune drags it straight to the dancefloor, as long as that dancefloor is out in the sunshine. This is the perfect outdoor party jam, a big feel-good track loaded with uplifting vocals and sweeping synths. Riding atop a space age Disco groove, the track even injects a little Tropical feel into the mix with a rushing Island breakdown. The single come with two other version of the track, but we’re not sure if they are going to be able to beat this Sunrise Mix’s joyous floorfilling bliss.

[Audio] Charli XCX remixed by Lindstrøm

Charli XCX

You may have seen us get a little giddy about this tune last week on Google+ and Twitter. It’s out girl Charli XCX’s new single, You (Ha Ha Ha), reMixed my the space Disco man of the moment Lindstrøm. Alongside the Goldroom reMix, this is the one we were most excited about, and it doesn’t disappoint.

A little more stripped down and Housey than maybe we are used to from Lindstrøm, the track nevertheless retains all the Norwegian’s Cosmic Disco charm. Sparse and Groove, with an almost Dubby swing to it, Lindstrøm’s remix creates a woozy electronic mood into which he drops in and out swirling synths and warping bass sounds. How he manages to get so ecclectic with his pallet and still keep the vibe fun and funky I have no idea, but he pulls it off. Add to this Charli’s top vocal and you’ve got a track that lives up to the hype.

[Audio] Classixx’s ‘Holding On’

classixx

Classixx are back! An unexpected, but most welcome turn of events. Not only are this LA Disco duo back with a new single, but they’ve also just announced their début album. To be released mid-March, the album, titled Hanging Gardens, with hold twelve tracks of laid back funky goodness including one or two favourites, such as Far From The Beach. Holding On is the first (new) single to be taken from the album.

The track is a lush beach groove. It’s everything you’d expect from LA Disco. Keen ears may recognise the track from a particularly old edition of The Magician’s Magic Tapes, where an early form of the track was featured. Holding On is sunshine in musical form. Tropical keys and rolling Disco basslines build up a no-worries party mood that’s paves the way for big vintage strings and an infectious vocal sample. Definitely one for pool parties.

Classixx’s Holding On is released 19th  February with remixes by Lifelike and Jerome LOL amongst others with their album following 14th March.

[MP3] Justin Faust’s ‘La Fête’

justin_faust

It feels like ages since we’ve had a new original tune from German Disco king Justin Faust, the man has been busy producing some of the best reMixes of the past year, but we do love it when an original comes along. Apparently this is a tune that Mr. Faust has been playing out for a while, so it’s a tried and tested track that JF and Discotexas are giving us for free.

If you’re looking for a big Disco part tune, then look no further. La Fête revolves around sumptuous horns and a swirling vocals hook for a beach party groove with an otherworldly twist provided by some Cosmic keys. The lead riff has got an almost arabesque feel to it too, again adding to the magical vibe. Underneath it all though, is just a full-on party starter.

[Audio] Shook reMixes Ghost Beach

Ghost Beach

This almost slipped past us. Late last week Crazy Heart Records unveiled the new reMix of New York DiscoPop duo Ghost Beach’s Been There Before, by none other than the Dutch musical Funk master Shook. The track is part of a series of remixes from the likes of Penguin Prison, Gigamesh, Chad Valley and Summer Heart that will be dropped weekly, culminating in a full reMix EP release at the end of March.

Shook, of course, works his vintage disco magic on the track. The reMix is loaded with the Dutchman’s typical Moog Funk basslines and 70s disco pops and pows. Presented in a laid back groove, with Shook’s jazzy electric piano at the forefront, the track is the prefect melding of Shook’s 70’s Disco and Ghost Beach’s tropical sounds. One for late night dancefloors and lazy poolside days.

[Audio] Lenno reMixes Nabiha

Nabiha

When there’s a new Lenno track in town, we have to take notice. The young Finnish producer is easily one of our favourite artists to emerge in recent year. Whenever we’re in the mood for some uplifting, big room, Disco sounds he’s our go-to guy. he’s presented something a little different with his new reMix, this take on Danish/African diva Nabiha’s recent Mind The Gap single is a little more laid back and soulful that we’re used to from Lenno, but it’s an excellent addition to his repertoire.

Mixing his Disco and House roots with an almost 90s Nu-Soul, or Acid Jazz flavour, Lenno delivers a tune that is as dancefloor friendly as it is fit for enjoying a drink in the summer sun. A sweet mixture of piano hooks and a upbeat brass section give the track quite a live feel whilst keeping it’s Dance Music roots and following the structure of the song, allowing Nabiha’s big vocals to really shine. Lenno really is at the top of his game, few of his contemporaries come close.
