[Audio] La Roux’s ‘Let Me Down Gently’

La Roux

Sunday night we had a little gush on social media about how good the new La Roux track was. It had leaked that evening and ever since we’ve been itching for an official stream to post, and now here it is. We’ve been nervous about hearing new La Roux material for a while now, ever since the reports a couple of years ago about how Elly Jackson was turning her back on electronic music and recording an Indie Folk album. ‘Just another artist using ElectroPop as a stepping stone and then ditching it’ we thought. Well, thankfully that album was scrapped (hence the massive gap between releases) and La Roux is well and truly back in sweet SynthPop mode.

Let Me Down Gently is actually amongst the best tracks La Roux has ever released. Mixing perfectly those times when Elly shines, the quieter more passionate moments,  with a solid Disco beat and stuttering synths. Not quite 80s sounding, but loaded with 80s references, from the lilting Sax solo to the dreamy lead. In short (as we mentioned on social media), it’s very very very good and has us mentally excited for the album, Trouble In Paradise, released in July.

Cassette Club

With the recent flow of awesome tracks from Ben Macklin, it’s not hard to forget that the man’s day job is being one half of amazing Nu-DiscoPop duo Cassette Club. The guys returned this weekend with what feels like their first new tune in ages. But fear not, it was well worth the wait. Hold tight for a huge soulful summer jam.

There’s a reMix package coming soon via Modal, but for now grab the limited free download of this massive tune. Fromm the moment the big fat synth bass on Collide makes it presence felt the track is hard to ignore. We defy anyone not to be compelled to move to this one. A slinky, easy groove loaded with big whooshing pads and filtered keys pair with a cheeky Disco lick to lay the groundwork for a smooth and soulful vocal. One for late night dancefloors.

[Audio] Moderns’ ‘Lies’

Moderns

Here we have some new music from L.A.’s Moderns. Moderns is the new project from our very own Let Em Riot who is bringing a breezy Indie flavour to his emotional Dreamwave style. Following their début of last month, Sub Urban, their latest release is Liar and it continues their journey thought deeply personal and relatable SynthPop tunes and once again proves that Alan Oakes is one of the finest songwriters in the genre.

Liar shows off more of Moderns’ sweeping and nostalgic Pop music. Exquisitely produced, the track sounds like it’s cut straight from an 80s teen movie and then remastered for 2014. Spacious and washed with reverb, the track is densely layered but never sounds crowded. Even Alan’s vocals are given room to breather amongst the airy pads and snapping snares. While you’re here check out the duo’s cover of Echo & The Bunnymen’s 1985 single Bring On The Dancing Horses which let’s these guys really revel in their 80s Indie side.

[Audio] Joe Goddard reMixes MNEK’s ‘Every Little Word’

MNEK

It’s hard to believe that Every Little Word is MNEK début single. The London based singer/songwriter/producer has had his fingers in so many pies in the past couple of years his name had become almost ubiquitous with the UK dance scene. As part of the reMix package for the single, Hot Chip and The 2 Bears’ main man Joe Goddard had turned in this feel good House mix of the tune.

With a big woozy bassline to draw you in Goddard delivers a version of Every Little Word that capitalises on MNEK’s catchy chorus and serves it up on a glorious House platter. With a mellow groove that belies the dancefloor tempo, this remix flow along on a wave of warm synth bass and shuffling hi-hats. You just help but vibe to the comfortable groove and soulful vocals.

[Audio] Roni Size reMixes Gorgon City’s ‘Here For You’

Gorgon City

House producers of the moment Gorgon City’s Here For You isn’t even out yet and it’s already doing massive things. The forthcoming release features a plethora of reMixes, including this one from Reprazent Head Honcho and Bristol Drum & Bass legend Roni Size. Gearing up for his own forthcoming released, and the resurrection of Reprazent, Size paves the way with this full-on reMix.

Laura Welsh’s vocals seem perfectly at home amongst the frantic beats and rumbling bass. Roni Size delivers a high-octane tune right her, firmly falling in the synthetic, rather than jazzy, end of the Roni Size spectrum. The deep robotic subs and jump-up beat power the track at 200 miles per hour, dragging with the airy pads and the soulful vocal line. This is classic Size, it’s like he never left.

[Download] Fire Flowerz reMix Route94’s ‘My Love’

route-94

Italian Disco duo have done it again with this massive new reMix of Route94 and Jess Glynne’s smash My Love. Apparently the original was just too “chill” for their DJ sets so they souped it up and gave it one of their trademark high-octane makeovers, this time injecting a whole load of piano House into proceedings. Check it out.

Dripping with early 90s vibes, Fire Flowerz mix of My Love takes Glynne’s big diva vocal and runs with it. A heavy piano hook permeates the track, hammering out its’ infectious riff over broken waves of bass heavy House. Modulating vocal snatches, as is requisite these days, Fire Flowerz deliver a full on floorfiller which we’re sure went down a storm in their sets.

[Download] Ali Jamieson’s ‘Push The Night’

ali-jamieson

One of our favourite tracks from London groovemeister and Heavy Disco label boss Ali Jamieson, Push The Night, finally saw release this week, and it’s free too. It’s featured as part of  NVMLS’ NVWLS/I compilation EP, four tracks of heavy Disco sounds with Jamieson bringing heavy doses of B-Boy Funk to the table.

Blending his trademark Jazzy Disco with a strong Bronx beat, Jamieson goes full-on Electro Boogie. Sporting a thick Italo-esque bassline complimented by wicked little Disco licks, Push The Night serves up an original head-spinner that keeps moving with mantra vocoder. This is proper vintage urban groove. Stay tuned for a special Ali Jamieson announcement in the coming months.
