Futurecop! & Keenhouse; the video

Hot on the heels of the clip for ‘Starworshipper’ here’s the latest clip from Futurecop!, for the forthcoming, Keenhouse featuring ‘The Only Way’, which was ‘Dreams’ before that (being Futurecop! must get confusing).

Brandon Dermer directs this amazingly ‘80’s video, which is an awesome fun mini-movie.

‘The Only Way’ features on ‘The Adventures Of Starpony’ EP, out now.

Hervé and Ronika

Hervé and Ronika

This past Friday, the best start to the weekend Annie Mac premièred the forthcoming new single from UK bass legend Hervé and  our very own Madonna Of The Midlands™ Ronika. Strap in for some heavy as hell, euphoric dancefloor gold.

‘How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right)’ is a bass heavy stomper with some serious early ‘90’s Rave overtones. Just the sound of those keys takes me back over a decade and invokes such a good feeling. The track is both nostalgic and upfront with some killer bass in the mix, perfect for when the party is hitting it’s peak. Ron’s vocal line just add the icing on the cake, I know she would have had fun singing a Rave line like that and it really sounds like it. I can’t wait until this tune goes off at the summer festivals. The UK is gonna’ jump.

♫ Hervé (Feat. Ronika) – How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right) (Club Mix) (Radio Rip)

‘How Can I Live Without You? (Make It Right)’ is released in the coming months.

Update: According to Hervé, this is in fact the Club Mix, and there is indeed a full vocal version coming, a fact that just gave me goosebumps.

The Golden Filter reMix Saint Etienne

Saint Etienne

It’s been a while since we heard from The Golden Filter, always one of the most innovative and interesting Disco acts around, since their soundtrack second album and accompanying film ‘Syndromes’, so for them to be breaking back into our consciousness reMixing one of our all time favourites, Saint Etienne, it a thing of pure awesome.

The New York duo’s version of ‘I’ve Got Your Music’ is a stripped down, moody, dancefloor tune built up on Moroder-esque basslines, warm synths and ‘70’s electronic toms. Completely changing the mood of the track, from euphoric ode to DancePop into something more mysterious, more enigmatic, The Golden Filter leave their calling cards all over these six minutes. Just check out the drop mid-way, the silence only broken by an eerie held note leading to tribal drums and magical arpeggios before dropping right back into to the groove. Drawing on vintage Disco and Italo, this reMix is more reminiscent of the likes of ‘Solid Gold’ than The Golden Filter’s newer output, I wonder what this bodes for the future of the twosome?

Goldroom’s new tune

goldroom

The founding father of Dreamwave and all round purveyor of good time vibes Josh is back with a brand new Goldroom tune. This time he’s brought a vocalist, Australian singer/songwriter Chella, for his most accomplished track yet.

‘Fifteen’ finally brings to Goldroom what NightWaves did so well, evoking a sense of nostalgia, even if it’s nostalgia for something you’ve never experienced. Not nostalgia for a decade, or a cultural period, but just simple, honest, nostalgia for the good times you’ve had, or wished you’d had. There’s an innocence, although not naïveté, to Josh’s work and although ‘Fifteen’, with it’s laid back bass and chilled beach party groove, continues the Goldroom journey through the smoothest of Disco, from an philosophical point-of-view it’s a return to the Dreamwave he helped create. Or the perfect meeting of the two, the groove of Disco and the soul of LA Dreamwave. Whatever it is, it’s perfect, and it captures everything I’ve ever loved about the Binary scene.

Goin’ Old School: Salt ‘N’ Pepa, Falco & Billy Ocean

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

One of the best synth riffs in existence, from 1988, Salt ‘N’ Pepa’s ‘Push It’.

Austrian Pop maverick Falco‘s ‘Rock Me Amadeus’ was an unexpected runaway hit in 1985.

In 1984 Mr. Billy Ocean released one of the smoothest songs of all time, ‘Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)’. Performed here on TOTP.

Queen Of Hearts’ ‘Tears In The Rain’

queen-of-hearts11

Now this is what you need to ease yourself into the week after the long bank holiday weekend (if you’re UK reader, my stats tell me a good deal of you are from the US, sorry guys, I feel your pain), the second part of Queen Of Hearts’ seemingly BladeRunner themed new single. This flipside to ‘Neon’, ‘Tears In The Rain’.

This slice of ElectroPop beauty was produced by the awesome Mr. Stefan Storm from The Sound Of Arrows. Whist retaining the majestic quality of ‘Neon’ and shot through with the Queen Of Hearts particular band of melancholy, ‘Tears In The Rain’ is a rich and gentle track that envelops you in it’s warm musical embrace. Stefan’s twisting, hypnotic synths shows that signature The Sound Of Arrows’ optimism-against-adversity that perfectly mirrors The Queens’ smokey beckoning delivery, the combination of the two elevating the listener out of the darkness. Atmospherically layering the track with a hint of storm (the weather, not the dude) is genius, giving such a laid back track a sense of urgency adds to the drama of the song, giving ‘neon and ‘Tears In The Rain’ a appearance of narrative. There’s no doubt really that Queen Of Hearts is going to be a massive Pop star, that’s a given, but we believe she will constantly surprise her audience with how deep, how un-throwaway her Pop will be, and that’s what always makes a proper, true Pop star, one that sticks around. The video for the single A-Side, ‘Neon’, is coming soon, can’t wait for that!

Queen Of Hearts – Tears In The Rain (Produced By Stefan Storm)

Queen Of Heart’s ‘Neon’/’Tears In The Rain’ single is out 14th May. Out now is ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ on which Queen Of Hearts features.

Kelek; new tune and reMix for Pretty Boy Makes Rave

kelek

German SynthWave producer Kelek is back with a couple of new tracks. We’ve been keeping an eye on Kelek for a while now, ever since his standout entry in Fear Of Tigers’ ‘The Adventures Of Pippi Longstrump’ reMix competition last year he’s been impressing us. This week he drops a brand new original and a new reMix.

Kelek’s new tune, ‘Alaska’, as a laid back slick of smooth Dreamwave. A retro synthed bouncer that is made for cruisin’. Rolling along on a synth Funk bassline the track a slightly a lot of things. Slightly Italo, slightly Electro Boogie, slightly Tropical, and massively more of a chilled groove than Kelek’s previous works. It’s nice to see this smoother side to his productions, and to discover that he can work more than one sound. ‘Alaska’ is there for hot lazy days and good times. Kelek has also tackled Pretty Boy Makes Rave’s ‘Change’, bringing out his Italo side for the challenge. And it works too, his reMix of ‘Change’ is classic Italo with a bit of ‘90’s House piano thrown in for good measure and a twisting, infectious lead line. Kelek is really starting to step up his game, exciting things ahead!
