stardate

Check out the first two demos from stardate the latest project from the mind that brought you 80s Stallone. His mission to give him self some freedom defined only by the use of hardware synths.

I don’t know if he’ll thank me for posting these demos, and EP is on the way but these are his first experimentations within his new parameters, but I couldn’t help myself, as a fan of electronic music these two tracks were too good to pass by. ‘Universal Pilot’ is at once ominous and uplifting, with these two roles being taken by the bass/pads and the melody, and it’s the capturing of these two moods that gives the track it’s cinematic feel. Heavy synth bass and arpeggios opposing, but working together in a Jarre-esque mid-paced peice. ‘Untill You Die’ walks a similar road but with more of a resolution to it, this is end of the movie stuff with a hint of guitar creeping in amongst the electronics and a bit of a sunrise feel.

Citizens! début single

Kitsuné Music’s latest signing Citizens! are soon to drop their début single ‘True Romance’, but you can already check the track by peeping it’s video.

It’s pretty wacky, but I suppose that goes with the quirky ElectroPop of Citizens!, it’s pretty vivid and bombastic though.

While you’re waiting for the single to come out, get your ears ‘round this taste of what to expect from their forthcoming début album with ‘(I’m In Love With Your) Girlfriend’, who’s raw sound boarders on ElectroPunk.

Citizens! début single is released 19th December, until the check them out on SoundCloud.

T&K’s ‘The reMixes’

tk

This week On The Fruit Records released a reMix collection featuring some awesome reworkings of ElectroPop duo T&K’s newly released album, ‘Magic Tank’.

The whole collection is well worth checking out, for me the highlights came from James Yuill, Mr. Mæn, Rocky and Freak You. Mr. Yuill’s take on ‘Little Clouds’ is an epic, rolling, ElectroPop monster. An evolving analog beast that despite being a pumping electronic floorfiller is amazingly cinematic and emotive. After an icy intro, Mr. Mæn’s version of ‘Summer Nights’ becomes a massive ‘80’s ‘moment’ track. Majestic and powerful, it’s a slow burner that rouses the soul. an old school SynthPop flavour is applied to ‘Magic Tank’ by Rocky. Like the bastard child of Yazoo and Fad Gadget, Rocky’s reMix is a weird synthesizer workout disguised as a Pop song. On The Fruit main man Freak You’s reMix of ‘Line Of Light’ is a cosmic, chiming tune with a ‘90’s SynthPop bassline and a hint of Disco that’ll definitely go down a storm on the dancefloor.

Seya

Next up on La Bombe is some Disco-House goodness from Seya.

That goodness takes the form of a two track single featuring the tracks ‘Float’ and ‘Backlight’. ‘Float’ the lead track is pumping full-on Nu-Disco workout which sees Disco samples battling it out with Funky synth riffs in a filter heavy arena. The flip side is more of a soulful Nu-Disco tune that sees Seya in funky dancefloor mode.

Pinemarten

Pinemarten

Sometimes an artist comes along and takes you totally by surprise, blowing you away. Pinemarten is one of those artists.

I’ve spent much of the day listening to his new album ‘If You Thought There Was Any Doubt’. It’s an incredibly impressive début, the whole album is retro leaning, lush, impassioned ElectroPop. A reverb soaked (although not so much it falls into Chillwave territory) synthesizer journey through a life in soft focus with a surprising amount of Funk involved. One minute you’ll be all encompassed by the layers of dreamlike sounds then suddenly Pinemarten will drops some big ‘80’s chords or a wicked Moog Funk lead. The album ties itself together with Pinemarten vocals, binging a very human, intimate and relatable quality to the record that pushes it over the line into the realms of genius.

‘If You Thought There Was Any Doubt’ is released 20th November and comes highly recommended.

Strangers’ EP3

strangers

After a few months of SynthPop rapidly falling out of favour with the Indie crowd, London based three peice Strangers seem destined to drag it back into the pages of the NME with their forthcoming third EP.

Much is being made of the trio’s so-called Dark Pop, words like ‘gothic’ and ’gloomy’ are being bandied around in reference to their music but I kinda’ disagree. Sure, the tracks are shot through with a streak of melancholy and the lyrics tend to lean toward the despondent, but ‘dark’ music this isn’t. The cleverly titled ‘EP3’ contains three cuts of catchy, surprisingly upbeat SynthPop. With beautiful, full, production and rousing choruses the whole EP mixes a hint of ‘80’s Pop with modern studio wizardry and delivers an experience that combines unexpectedly dancey electronic Pop with an infections vocal performance that will have you listening over and over again.

I’m also quite proud that I managed to go a whole paragraph without mentioning HURTS.

Antwerp

antwerp

About to release his début EP is Antwerp, a London producer with a taste for eclectic House music and experimental electronic beats.

With a sense for warping his looping sounds into melodies Antwerp has created something that is at once dangerously close to being self-indulgent experimentalism but also beautiful, melodic and totally absorbing. The ‘EXUINOX’ EP’s lead track is a four minute electronic soundscape set to a dance beat and nodding it’s head more than a little in the direction of Sheffield Bleep House of the early ‘90’s. From there on it the EP gets progressively more left-field but Antwerp never losses sight of crafting songs that are actually pleasing to listen to.
