Penguin Prison reMixes

PenguinPrision02

We’re still kinda’ reeling over how addictive Penguin Prison’s ‘Something I’m Not’ is and it’s not even out yet!

So a whole mess of reMixes is gonna’ keep us from jonesing for the single for as while, kicking off with (again!) the Cardiff crew, Friends Electric, who seem to be infiltrating electronic rumors on the sly, not that we mind if they keep dropping Electro monsters like this one! Luxury Living go deep into the subs with this heavy dub/80’s Electro hybrid that has a killer payoff toward the end of the track. Finally Krispin Korg gets straight up funky with a New York disco-esq Dreamwave mix.

Bright Light Bright Light

BrightLightBrightLight

Bright Light Bright Light (which I really hope is a Gremlins reference!) is the one-man project of Cardiff based Singer/Songwriter Rod Thomas who absolute passion to create well-crafted Pop music shines through the music from the first listen.

You can tell that Rod has spent a few years honing his craft as, for a DIY production, it’s pretty damn slick. It’s also timed brilliantly, this kind of ElectroPop with an emphasis on songwriting, an ElectroPop revolution of substance over style, is set to blow up this year and Bright Light Bright Light could well be at the head of the pack.

His latest track ‘A New Word To Say’ is a perfect example of this, it’s intelligent yet catchy, danceable yet thoughtful. Essentially it’s been written rather than produced, if you see what I mean? Which is always refreshing in electronic music.

Rod has roped in his friend James Yuill and fellow Cardiff ElectroPoppers Friends Electric (who’s reMix of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Under The Sheets’ we featured way back when) for reMix duties. James delivers a bright retro synth mix that actually sounds like it was fun to make while Friends Electric take it straight to the dancefloor in a French House stylee.

Kavinsky + Lovefoxxx + MMMatthias = Still OMG!!!

Kavinsky03

We’ve already raved about how straight up awesome Kavinsky’s ‘Nightcall’ is, unfortunately there was a little confusion and the track we posted was unmastered so it had to be removed, understandably, leaving you tune free.

So our good friend MMMatthias has stepped up to the plate to save the day and give you something to wrap your ears around until the release of the ‘Nightcall’ EP later this month.

Man, what a reMix he has given us! Still featuring shared vocal duties with Lovefoxxx of CSS it’s a smooth ElectroPop jam with an edge. Loving the builds and drops in his futuristic Pop take on the track.

And you can bet your local Indie-Electro dancefloor is gonna’ be on fire when it drops. To tide us all over here’s the Reset! reMix from the forthcoming single. With a huge breakdown, this reMix is like a war between the huge dirty bassline and the space disco synths, and us listeners are the only winner!

Lazersonic & Zak Frost – Levels

Lazersonic&ZakFrost

Looks like the guys at Eye Industries are in for a busy for months, for a start there’s this track, ‘Levels’, the forthcoming single from Lazersonic & Zak Frost.

The duo, who have previously released on Tiga’s Turbo label have enlisted Ali Love to drop some drug fuelled vocals for this part Ambient, part Tech-House, part Dub track.

Electrohead Shadow Dancer backs the track with two reMixes, including this one which kicks it straight to the dancefloor but makes the vocals even more trippy! The remaining reMix is from Kill The Hero and it just builds and builds and builds before setting you free with its bassline.

More from Buffetlibre/Amnesty International’s ‘PEACE’ project

peace02

Here at electronic rumors we are still all in with our support for the Buffetlibre DJs and Amnesty International’s PEACE project. Creating a ‘musical atlas’ featuring artists from the four corners the globe the Buffetlibre guys intent is to highlight (and raise a bit of cash to aid) human rights injustices around the world.

The PEACE album will contain more than 150 brand new songs by artists from more than 50 countries!

Always a favourite here, IHARTCOMIX’s The Toxic Avenger returns to contribute for the cause with a blistering slice of his noisy banging electro completely awash with 8-bit craziness and Yellow Magic Orchestra founding member and electronic composition legend, Japan’s Ryuichi Sakamoto donates this ambient electronic soundscape.

Relation; Optimistic

Relation

Right kids, I’ve been pretty ill the last few days so I have all these posts mounting up and tonight they are gonna’ drop. We’ve got a lot to get through, so hold on tight!

So, I can think of no better way to kick things off than with Essex SynthPoppers Relation who are gearing up for the release of the second single from their ‘Fear Of Night’ album.

Relation’s slightly house tinged SynthPop mixes some really early 80’s sounding elements, particularly in the vocals and lead lines (think early Depeche Mode) with modern beats and basslines which makes for a compelling combination. The single, ‘Optimistic’, is a smooth, almost SynthSoul, jam that comes with a meaty reMix package. The Laserdisco mix is a minimal, bass heavy take that verges on Dub. The Diogenes Club provide probably my favourite of the mixes sending the track straight into Disco territory. You know all the Dreamwave tracks your playing in your Ferrari driving through the city streets at night? Well, this is the track they are playing at the club you’re heading to! Eat More Cake attack the track from left field with some world music atmospherics that somehow actually compliment the vocals.

New Tron Legacy trailer: Daft Punk’s soundtrack?

Tron fans following the viral marketing campaign promoting the upcoming sequel to 1982’s Tron, Tron Legacy, have unlocked a secret site at http://www.program-glitch-esc.net/ that has HD version of the new, second, trailer ahead of it’s ‘proper’ online début later this week.

Looks pretty fantastic, no? And is that Daft Punk’s soundtrack we can hear in the second half of the trailer? Pulsing synths, distorted drums, sounds good to me!

Being actually in the trailer, I pretty sure we can assume it’s not a fake this time! 😉

Jocks reMixes Ou Est Le Swimming Pool

OuestLeSwimmingPool

The second Jocks reMix of the day!

This time it’s ElectroPop act Ou Est Le Swimming Pool who get the treatment with their brand new single ‘These New Knights’. In the last 12 months Ou Est have gone from SynthPop obscurity to having a huge hit in the form of ‘Dance The Way I Feel’ and a string of high profile live shows. ‘These New Knights’ is a precursor to their début album, scheduled for a June release. Jocks gives us a poppy yet heavy electro workout of the single.

Kavinsky + Lovefoxxx + Breakbot = OMG!!!

Kavinsky02

I really don’t know how much I can say here, the original of Kavinsky’s ‘Nightcall’ featuring shared vocal duties with Lovefoxxx of CSS is pretty incredible, elevating Kavinsky far far above being an electro-House or French House artist, it’s a proper, retro-tinged, ElectroPop track. it’s pretty dark (save for Lovefoxxx’s counterpoint vocals), it’s mid paced, and actually really emotive. There’s no ‘banging’ in sight. It’s, dare I say it, beautiful!

So, let’s throw Breakbot into the mix shall we! Although (and this is just my personal preference) I prefer the original, I absolutely cannot fault Breakbot’s Disco opus, it’s got everything, literally everything, you’d look for in a Disco track!

Kavinsky (Feat. Lovefoxxx Of CSS) – Nightcall (Breakbot reMix) (zShare) (MediaFire)

-Edit- I’ve removed the .mp3, apparently that wasn’t the finished master, which essentially means the final track will be even better!

The ‘Nightcall’ EP, the continuing adventures of the Dead Cruiser, is released 15th March and includes a reMix from Dustin N’Guyen, who is rumoured to be Xavier DeRosna, we shall see!
