Mitch Murder’s ‘Heading South’

mitch murder

Mitch Murder is just on a roll, ever since the release of his ‘Current Event’s album (number two in our best albums of 2011!) he’s been delivering awesome new track after track, and basically taking the whole retro synth scene to school (which, I imagine, would be kinda’ like the detention in The Breakfast Club).

This week’s fresh cut is ‘Heading South’, which sees old Mitch going right to his outrun core. A SynthWave narrative of a race to the boarder, but Mr. Murder opts for a laid back groove to get him there. The synths shimmer, the beat drive, the tale is told. Right now you can’t expect a finer SynthWave track than one of Mitch Murder’s productions, you know what to expect, he constantly impresses with both his production and his musical talent. This is the soundtrack to our Saturday.

Neon Indian’s ‘Fallout’ video

So, [adult swim] went after Neon Indian to convince him to let them make a video for him, I don’t think he needed much convincing, and the result is this clip for ‘Fallout’.

Lilfuchs directed this ‘80’s cartoon homage that works so well with Neon Indian’s chilled Dreamwave. Although I don’t remember so many boobs in M.A.S.K. or Pole Position.

‘Fallout’ is taken from Neon Indian’s sophomore album Era Extraña.

Sam Padrul’s new tune

Sam Padrul

‘Let’s Make History’ is the new track from Chicago based Funkmeister Sam Padrul.

Dropping a smooth slab of Funk with more soul, less robotics than his previous tracks Sam delivers a chilled get down jam. In his own words: “After having been listening to disco and early 80’s boogie records for the past several months, I was inspired to make a track that was more organic, downtempo, and groovier than my previous single, “All I Do”. In particular, this song was inspired a lot by Bill Withers’ “Bout Love” album, whose smooth Wurlitzers and Rhodes kept me groovin’.”. He’s nailed those slick, funky vocals perfectly. Nothing but good times could come from a track like this, it’s like an audio sunset beach party.

Walter Sobcek’s ‘Miami’ video

We love it when a song and video work together perfectly. this is the case with this new video for Walter Sobcek’s ‘Miami’.

The track is a few months old now, but this new video, directed by Diane Sagnier, perfectly captures the chilled, beach, ElectroPop track’s mood featuring model Alice Rausch living it up in the city. It’s a beautifully shot, soft focus, dream of the good life.

‘Miami’ is out now on Schmooze Records.

Gigamesh X Grouplove

Grouplove

I have no idea who Grouplove are. Apparently they’re quite famous in Indie-Rock circles, circles I try to stay away from. They look a bit twee to me and are probably far to quaint for anyone’s good, but, sweet Raptor Jesus, has Gigamesh dropped an absolute blinder of a reMix of their track ‘Tongue Tied’.

Gigamesh just knows exactly what he’s doing. This reMix is actually pretty complex, both in programming and arrangement, but in Gigamesh’s hands it feels effortless. I gave the original a quick listen and Gigamesh has been pretty respectful of the song and pinpointed what works in it, extracted that and washed the whole thing in his summery, good times, Disco vibe. With some clever vocal sampling, a seriously funky, diving, bass section and layers of synth with just the right amount of warmth Gigamesh delivers a fun, bubbly, party tune to rock your dancefloors. Although he’s still enjoying the success of his début EP, we here are gagging for more Gigamesh. Fingers crossed for another EP soon!

Lancelot’s début EP

Lancelot

Lancelot is the latest in an increasing number of artists to be taken under the wing of Binary Records. In the recent expansion beyond the core Binary crew Josh and Kyle have shown some A&R genius in sniffing out interesting and different electronic artists and once again have struck gold with Lancelot.

We’ve heard the odd reMix from Lancelot over the last few months but late February Binary delivers his début EP, ‘We Can Dance’. It;s a few weeks away but right now we can have a listen to the lead track ‘Spoken Word’. The first think you’ll notice about ‘Spoken Word’ is that it a peice of music, it is neither Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter not anything by Dan Brown. With that cleared up we can tell you what it is. ‘Spoken Word’ is a smooth as hell slice of summery Nu-Disco. Although that doesn’t sound like anything special these days, Lancelot’s tune here is pretty unique. What he has brought is a nice combination of a pretty synth heavy House backing, with some nice Cosmic touches, which builds a framework for a brilliant ‘70’s Disco tune. The EP comes with three originals and reMixes from Goldroom, Fabian, Frames and Moonchild (we heard the Goldroom mix on The Magician’s last Magic Tape). You’ll probably be wanting to buy that when it comes out then.

Lancelot – Spoken Word

Lancelot’s ‘We Can Dance’ EP is out 20th February on Beatport and 5th March everywhere else via Binary Records.

Mitch Murder X Nite Sprite

Mitch Murder

Ever since Sweedish SynthWave genius Mitch Murder dropped his album, ’Current Events’ late last year we’ve seen a resurgence in activity from him, releasing killer tune after killer tune. The latest from this prolific period is this reMix of ‘In The News’ from Nite Sprite.

Nite Sprite are a Norway based duo who craft some of the slickest retro Funk you’re likely to hear for a while, and with this mix they step up their game to serious levels. Everything about this mix, of one of the highlights of ‘Current Events’, is a pitch perfect meeting of SynthWave and Nu-Funk. From the SynthWave side of it’s DNA it bring a retro epicness worthy the best in ‘80’s Sc-Fi TV themes, combining lush, evocative chords and playful little melodies. Adding to that is it’s funky side, with a pure dancefloor groove and twisting Disco leads. Nite Sprite have given us a great way to start the week. Can;t wait for more from them.

Malibu B’s début EP

Hungarian SynthWave newcomer Malibu B is gearing up for the release of his début EP, ‘Launch’, coming soon via Black Leather Records.

This long time DJ turned creator of retro synth epics kicks off his inaugural release with the title track, a tune that lives up to it’s name. ‘Launch’ slowly builds layers upon layers of atmospheric synths and repetitive melodies until what began as a gently soundtrack peice becomes a foundation of musical anticipation whit which Malibu B launches the rest of the EP. ‘Delta Light’ follows, skilfully mixing the stabs of very early ‘90’s House with the sweeping sounds of SynthWave. That leads into ‘Conquest Of The Sky’, the EP’s centrepiece. ‘Conquest Of The Sky’ is the place where Vangelis and Italo meet. It’s pure ‘80’s soundtrack stuff, but unlike many of it’s contemporaries we’re not talking some teen movie here, there’s a much more mature feel to the melodic interplay, bringing to mind some of Vangelis’ work later in the ‘80’s. Coupled with a vintage synth bassline and a cheap beat, it’s a track the seems to envelope you in it’s structure. The EP plays out with ‘Royalty’, a cosmic slow jam, full of Sci-fi synths. the Launch EP is an impressive début for this Budapest resident.

While you’re here, check out ‘On The Beach’ too, a bonus free download that sees Malibu B in a chilled out wind-down mode. Amongst the slowly modulating synths, though, there is still a hint of the ‘90’s House that creeps into all his tunes, the 909 rimshot, particularly, is pretty nostalgia inducing.
