Cinnamon Chasers’ reMixes

So, Cinnamon Chasers’ ‘the Day That Never Came’/’Warm Rush’ reMix competition has drawn to a close, we’ve already featured Mr. Mæn’s and Lameboy Advance’s reMixes but while we await the winner to be announced let have a listen to some of the highlights so far.

We’ve by no means had the opportunity to listen to every single entrant, but here are some of the tracks that have stood out to us in out browsing of what’s on offer. Collins, unsurprisingly, turns in a top quality synthesiser workout with layers of retro electronic and does a really good job of creating a mood with his use of sound. Norwegian outfit seipä, have entered a massive sounding ElectroPop version of ‘The Day That Never Came’ that is pure synth euphoria. Jason Kid, winner of the Monsieur Adi reMix cometition, delivers a warm SynthWave track in his ‘Warm Rush’ reMix while Croatian act Senzorz drop some live ElectroPop with walls of arpeggios.

Goin’ Old School: Kraftwerk, New Order & Jungle Brothers

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

After years in the German underground. Kraftwerk were basically saying “Hello world, here we are’ with 1982’s ‘The Model’, the coolest people in the world took notice.

New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ from1983, still the biggest selling 12” of all time, here’s the original video.

Jungle Brothers, amongst others, in 1988 thought Hip-House was a good idea with the Todd Terry produced ‘I’ll House You’.

ATTAR! reMixes Nteibint

Nteibint

ATTAR! certainly is making a statement with his first back of solo reMixes, letting us all know what we can expect form him in future, and this mix of Greek Nu-Disco producer Nteibint’s forthcoming single ‘Morning Breeze’ helps to set the tone.

Everything about this mix, from the jump up percussion to the epic synth solos is so meticulously crafter. ATTAR!’s attention to detail, and the lining of his tracks with complex, intertwining programming makes him rise to the top of the pack. Combining a Disco groove with his deep 80’s analog sounds is becoming his trademark, and one we hope to hear a lot more from, it’s an awesome combination.

Black Magic Disco’s new EP

Black Magic Disco

London based producer Black Magic Disco is about to release his new single, ‘Downtown’ on Pole Position Recordings. Prepare for the Funk to be brought!

‘Downtown’ is a massive slice of Electro Boogie with a Moog-esque bassline that squelches and funks it’s way through the track like a Disco steamroller. And the awesome solid groove isn’t even the best bit, oh no, this tune is washed in subtle vocoding and some truly cosmic melodies and may be one of the best Cosmic Disco tracks I’ve heard this year. It doesn’t stop there though, one of our favourite producers ODahl steps up to work his magic on the track with some slick synthed Dreamwave ripe for the dancefloor and the normally more laid back Satin Jackets deliver a wicked 80’s synth Funked out Nu-Disco groover. The single also hold ‘First Avenue’ an inner city Disco B-side and a reMix from CRAM.

Final DJs’ ‘Inversion’

finaldjs

Final DJs. Always releasing tunes late on Fridays after we’ve shut up shop for the weekend!

So, while we’re all still waiting for the German master’s début EP release on On The Fruit the guys keep dropping storming track after storming track and ‘Inversion’ is a massive, pounding monster of a track. It’s a mid-tempo, slow burning tune that builds and builds into a wall of synthetic melody. What’s so immense about this track is the way the relentless driving beat juxtaposes the playful lead lines, and the whole atmosphere if the track being quite otherworldly. In the last two years Final DJs have consistently impressed and consistently improved upon themselves. With tracks like ‘Inversion’ they are really pushing the boundaries of what they can do, and consistently nailing it.

Voyager’s ‘Lovers’

voyager

The Wearerussians.com collective is just going from strength to strength and fast becoming the focal point for the Russian retro synth scene. Their latest release is the new single from Voyager.

Voyager are the duo of Dmitry Filimonov and Anton Shato from our favourite Russian city, Saint Petersburg, and they are making some pretty sweet funky analog ElectroPop. With ‘Lovers’ Voyager, like many of their W.A.R. contemporaries take a Dreamwave slant to their tunes with lush synth pads and an 80s styling, but there’s also a uniqueness to their combination of big nostalgic Electro and introspective ElectroPop, which is where the melodies come from. Add to that some crooning vocals and the result is something apart from the crowd. The EP, which is free by the way, comes loaded with reMixes. Our favourites are The Frost instrumental take, a peak time Nu-Disco tune that’s the floor-filler of the package, Serj V smooth, funk laden, beach Disco mix, full of filtered goodness,  and Phalanxes Of fingers stripped back SynthPop version, which is RoboPop at it’s finest.

Malibu B’s new tune

malibu b

Malibu B is back with another new tune, ‘Alfa’ is so full of Italo goodness it’s hard not to love it.

Bright and shiny, with some awesome percussion, ‘Alfa’ kicks of with a military Italo bassline. Rigid and marching the rhythm section provides a rock steady synthetic backing for Malibu B to layer some heave electronic emotions on us.  There’s something quite haunting about the ringing melody of ‘Alfa’, something quite listless too. In generally it’s a pretty uplifting tune, but shot through with an air of melancholy that suits the moody Italo groove.

Walter Sobcek reMixes Gotye & Kimbra

Kimbra

Gotye and Kimbra’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, remixed to death? Yes. My first instinct is to ignore new reMixes of this track that land in out inbox. It’s done now, get over it, it;s too late to jump on the ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ train. However, I find it very hard to ignore emails from Walter Sobcek, and I’m glad I didn’t.

Their reMix of the track is just really nice, there’s no other way to say it. Sure, we’ve all heard the song enough to last a lifetime, but Walter Sobcek’s laid back beach Disco is a smooth and toting such an addictive groove that you end up just kinda’ sinking into the track. Once again Walter Sobcek proving why they are at top of the Dreamwave pile.
