La Zebra & Reflex

zebra remixes

Hot on the heels of their bass slappin’, hard funkin’ single ‘A.S.S. (After School Special)’, LA Disco producer La Zebra are about to drop a reMix EP of staggering proportions.

Alongside some huge reMixes from the likes of  Xinobi and Tobtok is this mix from the Parisian ElectroPop duo who’s name is on everybody’s lips, Reflex. Reflex wash the track in their own particular band of groove laden retro Pop. Carving out it’s own niche against Xinobi’s awesomely twisted Nu-Disco, Tobtok’s cut-up dancefloor monster and Ecxellior’s masses pleasing banger, this reMix stands out as taking the track down a different route, heavy on the sweet ‘80’s synth lines and pulsing Electro Funk basslines. The whole reMix EP makes for some seriously body moving listening.

The ‘After School Special’ reMixes EP is released 10th April on La Valigetta.

The Robot Scientists’ ‘Black Hole’

The Robot Scientists ft. Lisa

Up next is the first release from brand new Berlin based label Emerald & Doreen, a new collective dedicated to releasing new and interesting SynthWave and Electronic Disco. Their début record comes courtesy of German duo The Robot Scientists, and their Lisa featuring, ‘Black Hole’

‘Black Hole’ is a deep collision of the machine and the human. Robotic beats and post-Italo arpeggios fill a cold and regimented place in the song which is juxtaposed with some particularly Indie guitar work and Lisa’s timid, almost naïve sounding, but hopeful vocals. The electronic contains elements from all over, there’s a lot of ‘90’s dance music in there, some Balearic too and a pulsing analog groove. The reMix package has to be seen to be believed, it’s rammed full of excellent takes on the track, including Irregular Disco Workers’ Italo version which sounds like and EBM/Italo soundclash in a dark European nightclub and Electro master Alexander Robotnick surprisingly funky stripped back Tropical mix. You’ll also find work from our favourite Nu-Italo (is that a ‘thing’ yet?) man Kid Machine, who’s ‘Vocoder Dub’ is featured on the EP, but who’s ‘Vocal Mix’ and ‘Vocoder Mix’ we can present to you right here. His vocal mix is the core of his work here, and may be his best track to date. Like a cyborg Vangelis, Kid Machine conjures up synthetic sounds that in anyone else’s hands might sound distant or inhuman, but the Manc producer instils his Italo influenced arpeggios and sweeps with a rich emotional quality and an atmosphere that goes beyond synthesizer dance music. His ‘Vocoder’ Mix’ builds upon the foundations of his main mix but, with the addition of vocoded vocals, gives the track even more of a dark future vibe.

Embryonik reMixes IDC

IDC

Dark Future SynthWave Producer Embryonik gets in an Italo state of mind for his latest reMix as he takes on renowned Electro DJ & producer IDC’s new single ‘Everybody.

From the offset you’re presented with a relentless Moroder-esque arpeggiated bassline and beat that is a powerful driving force in this track, a robotic command to dance. But then this regimented backing soon become a platform for some seriously sweet lead lines, one of the funkiest little synth riffs I have heard in a long time. Having listened to the whole EP I can definitely say Embryonik’s reMix is the standout. This track is pure ‘80’s Electro heaven and brings to mind so many SynthPop and Italo moments and it was all made on hardware synths, Embryonik’s keeping it real!

New track from Follow Me

Follow Me

New York SynthWavers Follow Me are back with another new track, between Follow Me and Guy Zalaxy they’re like a Dreamwave machine these days!

‘Doomsday Device’ is a mid-tempo grinder. Built upon layers and layers of lush synths, it’s an optimistic sounding track but with an undercurrent of adversity in there. The droning synths that make up the bassline acting as a wall of oppression which the shining lead lines lift the track up from. Follow me are doing a good job these days of creating real narrative tunes, and ‘Doomsday Device’ definitely has a story to tell.

The Penelopes’ ‘Sally In The Galaxy’ video

Here’s the video for The Penelopes’ ElectroPop gem ‘Sally In The Galaxy’, out next month on Pour Le Monde Records.

The track is really fun and off-kilter so director Saman Keshavarz had a lot to live up to, and seems to have managed to capture the madcap vibe of the song really well.

‘Sally In The Galaxy’ is released 16th April on Pour Le Monde Records.

Neon Indian’s new single

Neon Indian

Neon Indian has announced the next single from his ‘Era Extraña’ album will be ‘Hex Girlfriend’, a limited edition lime-green vinyl 7” release for this years Record Store Day preceding it’s general release.

‘Hex Girlfriend’ is a pretty raucous nostalgic teenage anthem. Both musically and lyrically reminiscent of days gone by. Alan Palomo layers retro synths with heavy bass and a chilled garage vocal for a real rawness. Despite being mostly electronic ‘Hex Girlfriend’ has a live, grittiness to it that only further brings the mod of the track.

♫ Neon Indian – Hex Girlfriend (Radio Edit)

‘Hex Girlfriend’ is taken from Neon Indian’s sophomore album ‘Era Extraña’ and the single will be released generally 28th May.

Kaleid’s new video

Kaleid are a Berlin based synth experimentalist outfit who’s recent single, ‘The Unicorn’ was reMixed by Bristol born Italo-Disco producer Antoni Maiovvi.

That reMix has not got itself a video. It’s a homage to Fulci’s Una Lucertola Con La Pelle Di Donna and does an awesome job of capturing the mood of the dark, and slightly unsettling, robotic Disco of ‘The Unicorn’.
