Quixotic’s ‘Golden Boy’

quixotic

Hungarian Dreamwave producer Quixotic has once again rolled a whole heap if influences into one dancefloor groover. This time it’s not galactic Funk that dominates his work it’s a cool summery vibe.

Golden Boy rocks in the Italo and SynthWave direction you’d expect from this guy, but rolls in a little Tropical sheen, we’d go so far as saying there’s a little of the Balearic to this tune. Particularly in the percussion, which brings a smooth island flavour to the track. Atop all this is a thumping digital House bassline and some space piano mixing it up with with the Dreamwave synths and the rousing 80’s lead line. It’s about SynthWave embraces the summer!

Hekr And Kov

Hekr And Kov

Hekr And Kov’s Lunar Launch EP is the inaugural release on their own Lunar Boogie imprint. This Canadian duo have compiled four tracks of Science Fiction electronics and retro futurism via heavy bass and robo synth goodness.

The EP kicks off with Cyclops Attack!, a punchy Electro track that combines otherwordly, and haunting, synth tones with a relentless pounding Italo groove. The coupling of pounding digital bass and machine vocoded vocals make this track a killer Sci-Fi opening to the EP. Hard hitting, electronic and loaded with robo Funk. Magma Mobile takes things in a more cosmic Funk direction, rolling slap bass gives the tune it’s Disco backing. Stabbing synths and a future Funk groove, with added talk box vocals, give the track a hook that will stay in your head all day. Little Nova joins the dots between Kraftwerk and Italo, by way of Moroder, pulsating analog arpeggios, factory line synth patterns and space Disco keys layer up together to create the soundtrack to an advanced metropolis while Saturn Voyage is a funky journey to the furthest reaches of our solar system. It’s an impressive début, both for the label and this duo, one recommended for lovers of synthesizers, space age grooves and retro future beats.

Sizarr’s ‘Boarding Time’ video

Relentless tribal drumming and icy synths about in the new single from Germany’s dark Indie-ElectroPoppers Sizarr.

It’s a suitably ‘Berlin’ video for the track, Boarding Time,  all broken video effects and oppressive cityscapes.

Sizarr’s Boarding Time is out 19th August.

Of Monsters & Men

Of Monsters & Men

We’d say New Your Disco duo The Knocks were a reasonable big name, I expect their reMixes don’t come cheap in any case. So if the like your song enough to do an unofficial reMix of it, that strikes us as quite a big deal. This is exactly what they’ve done with Icelandic Folk band Of Monsters & Men’s tune Little Talks.

Apparently this Indie Rock tune was, or is, huge and there’s loads of reMixes of it. Honestly it’s the first we’ve heard of either the band or the song, I guess we just don;t run in those circles. We gave the original a quite listen, a bit bland, not our cup of tea. Cutesy Folk just doesn’t float our boat. But The Knocks get to grips with the track in a supremely skilful manner. Eschewing faux quaintness for a solid New York Disco groove, sweeping cosmic synths and and 80’s synth stabs. The whole script flip of the track give the vocals a new lease of life. No longer listless they are now a catchy refrain. See what Disco does for you!

Clancy’s new tune

clancy

Rich Clancy is the cream of the crop when to comes to UK Dreamwave producers. I don’t think he’s  ever put out a track he haven’t loved, and although his tunes are too few and far between, when they come around it always brightens out day. He just dropped a new tune, Make Up, for free, so consider our day brightened.

Make Up is probably the most House thing Clancy has done to date. Rolling a deep 90’s House sound into his lush synthed Nu-Disco Clancy pulls off a hot, sweaty, late night vibe that draws you in with it’s digital bass grove and lifts you up on bright leads. The main hook is punctuated with a thick retro sound that gives the track a classic dance tune feel while, with the space use of the vocal sample and laid back Balearic percussion added to the mix, Make Up is pretty timeless dance music. Classy as hell.

Pilotpriest reMixes Sébastien Tellier

Sébastien Tellier

Who want’s even more from Pilotpriest? Well, of course you do, you’d be insane not to. Well you’re in luck, in the same week that saw him dropping his new tune, Cosmosis, the Torontonian unleashes his reMix of the mighty Sébastien Tellier’s new single Russian Attractions.

As you know, we normally shudder at the thought of whatever latest reMix competition is running, and we fully expect our Inbox to be flooded, in the coming weeks, with mediocre Russian Attractions reMixes, but hopefully Mt. Tellier’s thoughtful ElectroPop will see a different class of reMix talent than the usual poo Electro-House cries for attention. To be honest though, they all might as well just stop now. Pilotpriest’s reMix is going to be very hard, if not impossible to beat. He’s set the bar so high you can just about make it out in the Hubble Deep Field image. Pilotpriest’s trademark piercing vintage synths and steady, dramatic beats are the perfect accompaniment for Sébastian Tellier’s bombastic, otherwordly presence. Seriously, a match made in heaven. This reMix is nothing short of majestic. A synthesizer opera, full of power and emotion.

Lazerhawk’s new tune

Lazerhawk

We haven’t heard much from SynthWave master Lazerhawk in a while, not really since his stunning Visitors album. The Austin based synth guru has just unleashed a new tune, it’s a collaboration with artist Dave Rapoza for a coming he’s creating called Skull And Shark, and it’s a moody affair.

Simply titled Skull And Shark, this theme is full of dramatic tension. Falling sparely in the Horror side of SynthWave Lazerhawk plays with haunting melodies and spine tingling lead lines. Amidst the distant sound of thunder and rain, baroque synths juxtapose with grinding riffs and alien keys atop a pounding Italo backing. Pure Halloween synthetics.

Washed Out’s A Dedication’ video

Washed Out’s A Dedication is just one of many beautiful, dreamlike, peices on his album, Within And Without. And Chillwave works so well accompanied by nice, hazy video. So here we go.

Yoonha Park directed this stunning clip with a really nice eye for colours and framing.

Ace Attack’s ‘Take A Break’

ace-attack

Funketeer Ace Attack has let loose a brand new summery jump up tune. Only a month or so after the release of his reMix collection this French producer is already working and new ways to keep us dancing.

Twisting Mood Funk basslines are the order of the day with Take A Break, the track runs along on them. Herbie Hancock style Jazz Funk synth bass keeps the energy of this track right up, it’s so twisted, so funky that you can’t help but move to it. Add to that a Disco beat, warm synth pads and some wicked, light fingers, lead and solo playing and you’ve got a Disco tune full of summer Funk that’ll worm it’s way into your brain. And stay there. the only downside is a terrible vocal sample (or maybe it’s real vocals? *shudder*), but you can ignore them and just get down to the track itself.

Charli XCX’s The Internet reMix video

This is the new official video for Odd Future’s The Internet reMix of one of the best songs of the year, Charli XCX’s You’re The One. The reMix is nice enough, not a patch on St. Lucia’s but it’s got a nice groove. The rapping, however, by Mike G, is some of the laziest, worst rhyming we’ve ever heard. Shame really, it ruins quite a cool mix.

Directed by Claire Boyd and Rayn Andrew, the video is all a bit three years ago. We’ve seen the whole Goecities/.gif thing done so many times now, admittedly this is probably the best we’ve seen it done, but it’s still done.

The You’re The One EP is out now, the single version is released 19th August.
