[MP3] Shook’s ‘Summer Heat’

Shook

Dutch Disco master (yes, master!) Shook is back with some big news and a free tune. The mans début album, which is a pretty long awaited release, is finished and to drop in August. To warm everyone up, Shook is giving away one of the album tracks, for one week only. The sumptuous Summer heat does just what it says on the tin, prepare for laid back sunshine vibes.

As I sit here writing about this tune, it’s a scorching 31°C in the UK and much of Summer Heat sounds like I feel (especially the bit about getting an ice cream!). It;s lazy funk bassline and wicked Disco licks merge together with thick Moogs  and a vintage beat to form a poolside, hot city nights, beach funk, summer good-times anthem for those who don’t care about moving too fast, as long as something’s going down. Strings, wailing synth solos and a smouldering vocal are all just the icing on the cake. Can’t wait for the album.

Shook – Summer Heat (Album Version)

Shook’s début album, is released 6th August.

[Audio] Classixx reMixes The Preatures’ ‘Is This How You Feel’?’

The Preatures

Getting an airing in yesterday’s Verando mixtape from Goldroom was the sunkist sounds of the new remix from Classixx. Still riding high on the success of their amazing début album, Hanging Gardens, the LA duo have turned their attention to Australian Indie-Pop outfit The Preatures and their new single Is This How You Feel?

The original is quite raucous guitar fuelled nonsense, but in Classixx’s hands it becomes a supremely laid back Acid Disco. we’re dead keen on the recent introduction, from the likes of Goldroom and Classixx, of burbling Acidic 303 lines into chilled Tropical Disco, it makes for a lush summer sound with a little excitement. Both smooth and sleazy. Classixx temper the Acid lines with slick vintage chords and blissful leads with take the vocals from Indie-cool to by-the-pool.

[MP3] Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Vocal’ reMixed by Jack And Joy

Pet Shop Boys

Pet Shop Boys ode to vocal dance music, Vocal, taken from their excellent Electric album get’s a full-on, nine track, reMix CD treatment at the end of this month. Nine version is a pretty chock-full package but there’s still more. Not included on the CD, but definitely worthy of your attention, is this version from Italian Housemeisters Jack And Joy.

Jack And Joy play up to the track’s motif and deliver a classic dance mix. In fact, heard blind, you’d be hard pressed to pinpoint a year or even genre for this one. There’s elements of Chicago House, Balearic vibes, 90s extended 12” mix styles and a big Trance build to accompany the Pop House piano hook. These kinds of timeless reMixes allow Pet Shop Boys to shine at their best a Neil Tennant’s vocal is left largely intact (apart from some late 80s sampling techniques) to bring it;s full emotional content to the dancefloor.

[Audio] TEED reMixes Disclosure’s ‘F For You’

Disclosure

Deep festival House vibes right here. It’s been a while since we featured anything from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, but he’s just dropped this absolutely intoxicating reMix of F For You, taken from Disclosure number one album Settle. F For You will be Disclosure’s next single and it’ll be getting a loaded reMix package, of with this TEED mix is but one.

This is pure enigmatic summer House, soulful and bassy. It’s a moody and dark tune, but one that never feels oppressive. It’s ominous in tone, but shot through with optimistic melodies and a mesmerising House groove that you could dance to for hours. The heavy, heavy, bassline, alongside the shuffling House beat, this track hold perfectly pins everything together, making the track compelling and funky and allowing the eerier elements to make the tune interesting without overpowering it.

[Audio] Keep Shelly In Athens’ ‘Recollection’

Keep Shelly In Athens

It’s all about surprisingly big beats, and a hazy, carefree vibe on Greek Chilly-Indie-Electro duo Keep Shelly In Athens’ new tune, Recollection. The track is a taste of what we can expect from their forthcoming début album, to be released this September on Cascine.

It really is the combination of the big beats and Sarah P’s vocal that keeps this track going. Playing the ethereal voice against punchy rhythms makes for a schizophrenic track, but one that doesn’t suffer for the condition one bit. It’s one both your head and your feet can loose themselves in, but for different reasons. A beautiful cacophony of wall-of-sound electronics compliments the groove, alongside a screaming solo, and the end result is strangely summery. Check it out.

[MP3] Anoraak reMixes Valente’s ‘The Distant Lights’

Valente

French producer and Dreamwave OG Anoraak hasn’t graced our ears since March, and even then tends to keep a low profile, but he’s piped up this week with this lovely reMix of LA based Folk singer Valente’s The Distant Lights. Taken from his recently released album, Music For Rooftops, the track was a haunting ode to the city that Anoraak turns into an involving urban hymn.

A heady mix of swirling synths, buzzing tones and walled-in chimes, this reMix perfectly captures the mood of it;s subject song. Not fast enough for dancefloor dominance, Anoraak inject the track with a solid groove nonetheless, wrapping the listener in a blanket of emotionally resonant electronics that conjures up imagery of the track’s metropolis muse. This kind of urban SynthWave is exactly what Anoraak does best, and he really shows off his talents on this one.

[Audio] Kaiserdisco’s ‘Night & Day’

Kaiserdisco

Pete Tong’s essential new tune on his Radio 1 show last Friday was this dreamy tune. it’s the lead track from Hamburg Electronica outfit Kaiserdisco’s new album, Meet Me On The Floor. Titled Night & Day, the track is sure to provide the soundtrack to your next few hundred sunrises.

Mixing up some squelchy synth riffs with a loose House flavour, Night & Day delivers Balearic vibes throughout. With a hypnotic hook underpinning the whole track, it’s easy to get lost in this one, it’s Deep House flavour becoming all encompassing only tempered with it’s optimistic streak. It’s easy to fall for the slight BladeRunner-esque chords of this track. A classic early hours tune.
