[Download] Keep Shelly in Athens’ ‘Old Time Glory’

keep-shelly-in-athens

Sarah P has left Keep Shelly In Athens. That’s some pretty sad shit right there. The voice of Keep Shelly In Athens has departed to peruse her own projects, isn’t that what they used to call ‘musical differences’? KSiA plan to carry on the good work with a new vocalist, and the occasional guest, but Sarah’s voice was so distinctive you can;t help but feel like it’s the end of an era. So, how do they give Sarah a fitting send off? But releasing her final track, one that sums up the golden era of KSiA both in sound and title. Old Time Glory.

Shiny, sparking and bouncy ElectroPop permeates every minute of Old Time Glory. Optimistic and hopeful (or maybe we’re just reading too much into it), it’s an upbeat track with Sarah riding it perfectly; dominating the track with her playful vocals. It’s a bit of a bittersweet parting gift, but it’s an awesome slice of SynthPop so let’s ignore the context. Who needs context anyway? Stupid words with ‘x’s in them.

[Audio] Mitch Murder’s ‘Enter The Fury’

Mitch Murder

It’s a new one from 80s soundtrack king Mitch Murder, and the Swedish producer kick of 2014 in style with Enter The Fury, a nice mix of Mitch’s retro soundtrack and video game influenced styles. If you know Mr. Murders music, you will know you’re in for for four minutes of action, adventure, romance, loss and ultimate triumph. Oh, and a mind blowing solo.

Enter The Fury starts it’s journey with a wobbly VHS intro of building synths before launching into a carefree initial section. Bouncy FM synth bass and a Electro Funk beat cruise along before all the fun-and-games become slightly more dramatic. After a breakdown of starlight synths, the solo launches in with passion. No-one synth shreds like Mitch Murder and it takes the song to the next level.

[Audio] Sohight & Cheevy’s ‘Night Ride’

Sohight & Cheevy

Taken from their, as yet unannounced, forthcoming new EP, Night Ride is the new tune from Russian Nu-Disco duo Sohight & Cheevy. These guys have been quietly tearing up the Nu-Disco scene for a while now, definitely on the radar of those in the know (as much of the Russian’s Nu-Disco and Dreamwave output is). Bringing a little classic late 70s DiscoPop vibe back to modern Disco dancefloors, Sohight & Cheevy’s new tune is set to be an instant hit with retro groove fans.

Raised up an a heady mix of old synths, smooth saxophone and Cheevy’s genre perfect (and occasionally Bee Gees) vocals, Night Ride is an immediately catchy slice of nostalgic Disco goodness. The quality of the songwriting and production is right up there with the best in the field. These guys are true underground competitors to the likes of Chromeo and Tesla Boy , the music is just that good. If you like your Disco with a slick vocal, an irresistible bassline and waves of fluid vintage synth lines then you definitely need to check out Sohight & Cheevy’s new one.

[Download] Alison Valentine’s ‘Curious’

Alison Valentine

Curious is the new one from one of New York’s finest Indie-ElectroPop exports Alison Valentine. We last saw Ally V being featured on a Kitsuné compilation with Circles And Triangles; since then she’s teamed up with one of today’s great unsung analog synth wizards, Chrome Canyon, to produce this lush slice of summery Pop on a vintage Disco meets über-cool IndiePop tip.

Curious is an intoxicating meeting of Allison’s sweet voice and penchant for roller-rink jams with the swooshing, Sci-Fi Disco sounds of Chrome Canyon. Laid back keys ease the song into your heart before introducing warm, funky, bass and a feel-good groove. Warbling synths drag this tune straight out of the 70’s into 2014 with a tune that primed for the summer. Amongst the relaxed poolside sounds Allison’s vocals make the track. A hazy dream; the song is like a wave of catchiness that gets well stuck in your head.

Alison Valentine’s Curious is available to download now on her own label (and, apparently, florist) 11 x 11.

[Audio] Falcone’s ‘Are You That Somebody?’

aaron-alexis

Who’s Falcone then; I hear you ask? Well boys and girls, it’s the new alter-ego of our good friend Aaron Alexis who, for reasons that are either obvious to your or aren’t, has decided to claim himself a shiny new name and kick on with the majestic ElectroPop offerings. And it is quite a shiny new name too, one that matches the big dramatic sounds the man makes. The first of those theatrical Pop tunes id a cover of Aaliyah’s Are You That Somebody?

We’d suggest you sit yourself somewhere comfortable and grab your headphones for this one. Aaron whips up a pulsating, enigmatic tune loaded with cinematic piano a relentless march of snares. Co-produced with She’s The Queen’s Drew, this is one of those tracks to give you goosebumps as Aaron’s powerful coon cuts through the mix, finding it’s place amongst piercing arpeggios and ominous synths. It;s got a nice funk to it too.

[Audio] Irish Steph’s ‘Breathe’ (+ Ali Jamieson and Louis La Roché reMixes)

Irish Steph

Breathe is the forthcoming new single from seriously underrated Dubliner Irish Steph. Out at the end of the month on La Valigetta, the single is already getting spun by the likes of Madeon, Philippe Zdar (Cassius), Aeroplane, Justin Faust and Shinichi Osawa and deservedly so. When the release drops you can expect a bursting-at-the-seams reMix package from the likes of Blatta & Inesh, Joao Ceser, Stephane Deschezaux Ali Jamieson and Louis La Roché. Check it out.

Breathe bursts out your speakers with a siren drone before easing in a heartfelt vocal and a heavy bass groove.Walking the line between Nu-Disco and harder Dance sounds, Irish Steph delivers something that’s both a powerful dancefloor tune and something a little more cerebral. Robo vocals and layers of buzzing synths combine to create something strangely haunting amongst the pounding drums. Ali Jamieson takes the tracks Funk one step further, turning in a buoyant slab of Turbofunk, heavy on the vintage synth sounds and cosmic sweeps, revealing a gentler side to the original’s vocals. For the full-on Disco version of the track we turn to Louis La Roché who incorporates a bouncy bassline, the kind that can’t help but put a smile on your face, and uplifting keys in a twisting, galactic, mirror ball oddessy that, thanks to the vocals, doesn’t quite shake the original’s unsettling element. The whole package is pretty top quality. Mind-Disco.
