Starsmith reMixes Gypsy And The Cat

A few weeks ago ElectroPop producer extraordinaire Starsmith did a streaming video studio chat thing. While most of the airtime seemed to be Fin realising it was a bad idea ‘cos he was trying to get on with some work while the internet was shouting at him, the actual track he was working on was very interesting. It was a reMix of Gypsy And The Cat, now quite old, track ‘Jona Vark’. And here it is!

The appearance of this mix and rumors of some other pretty cool reMixers seems to confirm the track is getting a re-release, with this mix at the forefront this tune could go huge. Starsmith walks the line between ElectroPopping up the actual song and getting some deep Moog Disco going. There is so much going on in this song that is really is a credit to Starsmith’s mixing skills that it all sits together so well.

No idea when the ‘Jona Vark’ single is out but it’s still available on Gypsy And The Cat’s album ‘Gilgamesh’

Toro Y Moi gets reMixed by Fiero

The Fiero boys are back and more 80s than ever!

With a bassline that’s got more bounce than a rubber ball and some synth horns straight from a mid 80s episodes of Top Of The Pops their reMix of Chillwave dude Toro Y Moi’s ‘Still Sound’ is like a dream of the decade of FM synthesis. It’s like dry ice and flashing neon in audio form. But this isn’t some cheesy 80s pastiche I’m chatting about here, this doesn’t try to sound retro at all, it just does, aided all the more by the wailing guitar into that leads into  a B-Boy beat and some shimmering soul synths.

Is it wrong to thing Toro Y Moi should always sound like this?

Toro Y Moi – Still Sound (Fiero reMix)

Y’know, those horns are one step away from orchestral stabs, and someone needs to bring orchestral stabs back right now!

Metronomy’s New Video

It’s been almost 2 years since there’s been some new Metronomy material, but the wait is over. They have just premiered the video for their forthcoming single ‘’She Wants’ and it’s an impressive slice of deep Indie-Electro and a suitably jarring video.

Unfortunately the QR code in it isn’t anything exciting, just a newsletter sign up page.

‘She Wants’ is out 31st January on Because Music.

Cinnamon Chasers new album, ‘Science’

Cinnamon Chasers released his second full length album, ‘Science’ this week and I know It’s only January but I guarantee that this record will be in my top 20 of 2011!

I loved CC’s last album but this one really ups the ante. Smooth beats, Disco basslines and sweeping, epic, tracks is what this album is all about. Throughout the nine tracks heartfelt vocals and shifting vocoders intertwine with soaring synth leads to power the tunes along. Like the best Dreamwave with a slightly UK House vibe. As soon as the year gets warmer comes this is going to be my go to CD of those summer nights. Check the opening track, ‘Rocker’, it’ll leave you wanting more!”

‘Science’ is out now, and as far as electronic rumors is concerned it is not only recommended, but essential!

Druma Kina

Druma Kina is the musical alter-ego of producer Simonski, from São Paulo, Brazil, who has just teamed up with new label Teenage Gang Records to drop his latest EP.

The sample heavy Disco found of the EP is complimented by an amazing collection of reMixers. The lead track on the EP ‘Walking Away’ is a funky, cut-up Nu-Disco jam with layer upon layer of Disco samples and some sweet, soulful, vocals supplied by Shell Heaven Lee. The awesome Cosmonaut Grechko take it to the next level with a Dreamwave reMix that blends seamlessly with the original track and will leave you wanting more. Cavaliers Of Fun drop their brand of quirky DiscoPop with their take on the song which evolves into an epic call and response Electro tune with added vocals and Sci-Fi solos.

Dato’s new tracks

It’s been a while since we featured Denmark’s Dato, in the inbetween time the duo have got funkier as the Disco influence on their ElectroPop sound has become more prominent.

Their latest productions show a definite one-ness with the funk, whereas their earlier tracks were more ElectroPop based. ‘Hard To Find’ is reminiscant of early Dirty Vegas with haunting vocals over a strong House groove. ‘My Life Is Perfect Now’ sees them joined, once again, by Jannie Linnebæk for a slab bass and retro synth workout that is bordering on Dreamwave. Mixing up their chilled Danish ElectroPop with a Nu-Disco vibe a makes for a really interesting laid back take on both sounds.

Tareq

Greek ElectroPop artist Tareq recently dropped his début album, ‘Cocoon’, on Undo Records (home to Marsheaux) and is about to unleash his premier single from the album, ‘Cold’.

Tareq brings a little Vocal House flavour to the Modern SynthPop scene. As well as mixing in his retro influences he’s not adverse to adding some Disco bass or House pads into the traditional Modern SynthPop sound. While musically ‘Cold’ lives up to it’s name with layers of icy synths, the presence of a  slap bass groove and Tareq’s emotive vocals warms things up a bit. The reMix package is quite impressive, the standout being d-tek’s Italo mix which is just begging for Club play as it mixes up an Italo bassline with layers of Nu-Disco synths.

If you want to check out how the Modern SynthPop scene is evolving the Tareq’s ‘Cold’ is recommended.

Evokateur

Evokateur are a London based ElectroPop duo who are gearing up for the release of their début single ‘Wolf Girl’.

Set for release in March the single sees this Mexican/English twosome walk the thin line between a strong 80’s European SynthPop influence and contemporary production techniques. Too rich sounding and Poppy to be ColdWave, yet too dark and brooding lumped in with any kind of Electro-House or Dreamwave styles of ElectroPop, this is what I imagine the true inheritance of the original SynthPop Futurists’ sounds like (ignoring the 90’s Modern SynthPop scene). Full, thick, electronic production that maintains a slightly cold edge, tempered by Sarah Villaraus’ smokey vocals, make the single instantly accessible, but with a hint of danger. Check it out, and the Idiotech reMix which ups the EBM quota but seems to strip the song of some of it’s charm.

Gossip Culture’s ‘Whispers In My Ear’

It’s been a while since we featured Gossip Culture here on electronic rumors, but the Cleveland based one-man Indie-ElectroPop project from Cleveland is about to release a new EP, so let’s check out what we can expect.

‘Whispers In My Ear’ is a laid back, soulful slice of Funky Indie-Electro/Nu-Disco hybrid. With a deep Disco groove and introspective, intimate vocals this is a perfect tune to chill in the sunshine too. So if you’re lucky enough to be in a part of the world that isn’t frosty and miserable (as I am) then whack this in your stereo, grab a beer and get yourself out in the sun.

Gossip Culture – Whispers In My Ear

‘Whispers In My Ear’ is taken from Gossip Culture’s forthcoming ‘People Talk’ EP on Girlfriend Records, also featured will be reMixes from Deniz, You Need It! and Girlfriend head honcho Sferro. Keep an eye on his Facebook page for news.
