Toro Y Moi

Toro Y Moi’s new video, ‘How I Know’ is decidedly slapstick by Toro Y Moi standards.

Jordan Kin directed this clip which has gone a bit hipster Casper.

‘How I Know’ is the third single from ‘Underneath the Pine’.

Champagne Records’ ‘Parrot Bay’

parrot

Champagne Records, purveyors of the finest Nu-Disco jams and one of the most generous labels out there have dropped a massive 32 track compilation of storming sounds. For free!

‘Parrot Bay Vol. 1’ is full to bursting point with track after track of summertime party tunes, laidback grooves and retro epics. Just some of the contributing names include Alexandre Louvré, Marc Dangerfield, Ren Riz & Jesus H Macy, Vostok-1, Hardtopronounce & The Jesterz. amongst the highlights are Tempogeist’s ‘There’s Nothing’, a French House, Disco sampling tune with some wicked leads. Pure party starter. GonZo’s ‘Waves High’ plays with the combination of 80’s synth lines and disco riffs while Flashback’s ‘One The Sea’ is an synthetic soundtrack, Vangelis meets Moroder in the late 70’s carried along by en emotional picked lead.

a&r’s new track

a&r

Brooklyn duo a&r recently dropped a new track on their SoundCloud page, and it’s a stormer.

‘Perfect Thieves’ is just the kind of top quality, emotional, ElectroPop we’ve come to expect from these two. This is big, 80’s chords, SynthPop but with an Indie sensibility and one foot squarely on the dancefloor. The vocal style and dreamy synth sounds make me think of a slightly more gangly guitar infused Monarchy with this tune,

Yelle, Eumig & Chinon and Kap10Kurt

Yelle

Yelle, easily one of the best live acts I have seen this year, is embarking on a US tour. If they are playing near you, especially if it’s quite an intimate venue, I strongly suggest a night out.

In celebration of tour embarking here’s a couple of reMixes of ‘Que Veux-Tu’ by Eumig & Chinon and Kap10Kurt. Both have been kicking about for a while now but both are seriously worth your listening minutes. E&C get sweet and soulful with their Disco Funk version of the track while the ElectroPop master Kap10Kurt works his mysterious cosmic Electro ways.

Daze reMixes Ellie Goulding

ellie_goulding

You remember Ellie Goulding’s ‘Starry Eyed’? You remember how awesome it was two summers ago? You remember how it has a perfectly good, fun and funky,  music video? You remember how the perfectly good, fun and funky, music video also got edited into a perfectly good music video for the jaw droopingly amazing Russ Chimes reMix of the song? Well, now the single is being released in the States there is a new video for it, which I won’t be posting as it appears to be the latest in a long line of record label attempts to turn Ms. Goulding into the blandest artist ever. The previous video was kinetic, and dancey, and youthful. The new video is Ellie slow-mo in a field, full of product placement, or something. Kinda’ like ‘The Writer’ video then? Seriously, we’ll see how many top 10 hits she has after you’ve tuned her into a dreary folk artist. My advice? Stick her back with Starsmith, let Neon Gold look after her, and we’ll all have a good time. The song is about shared clubbing or festival experiences, not picnics and feeling up bark.

Aaaaaaaaaanyway…renewed interest in the, admittedly still brilliant, track means more reMixes. Daze has put together a storming Disco fuelled epic track. Sliding between different grooves Daze controls the listener before sweeping in with a massive analog solo. Synth Funk haven.

Sykur

Sykur

Sykur are a new Icelandic trio who are gearing up for a September release of their début UK single, ‘Shed Those Tears’.

There’s loads of early 80’s SynthPop in ‘Shed These Tears’, there almost a Soft Cell quality to the tune, but with a nice raw contemporary Electro production style. The trio of Halldór, Stefán and Kristján already  are well respected on the Reykjavik Electro scene, and the respect is well deserved, their music portrays a skill, maturity and tradition well beyond their years. The single will be backed with reMixes from the crazy FM Belfast, who cut and splice the track to give it a slightly more dancefloor vibe and DJ Kris Di Angelis who takes the track straight into Deep House territory as he gets proggy with it.

Dirty Vegas Vs. Penguin Prison

dirty_vegas_group

Just out is Dirty Vegas’ ‘Little White Doves’ single from their recent ‘Electric Love’ album. We already dropped the Visitor reMix a while back and alongside that and tracks from Nightriders, Blonde Rocka and Ladytron, Indie-ElectroPopper Penguin Prison contributes to the package.

PP goes all epic 80’s soundtrack rock meets deep House tune for his take on the tune. The anthemic vocals and rousing retro sound counterpointed with low down Acid burbling and a hypnotic groove. Dirty Vegas have returned the favour by contributing to the (now massive) collection of reMixes of Penguin Prison’s ‘Fair Warning’ who work their sunrise House magic on the song with a nice subtle Balearic feel to it.
