The Scientists Of Modern Music

Australian Indie-ElectroPop duo The Scientists Of Modern Music have just released the first single from their forthcoming second album.

‘Because If I Die’ is a pretty impressive way to bust onto the scene. Sitting steadfast within the Aussie ElectroPop sound, The Scientists hold their own amongst their contemporaries. The likes of Empire Of The Sun, Strange Talk, Tim & Jean, Bag Raiders, Gypsy & The Cat, Miami Horror, Midnight Juggernauts and Get Stellar have carved out a particular sound, you can tell when an ElectroPop band is Australian. There’s an Indie backing, big cosmic synths and glammy vocals and TSOMM have got that sound down pat. Slick, well produced and catchy these guys could soon rise to the top of the Aussie ElectroPop game

Monsieur Adi reMixes Madonna beautifully

Madonna’s ‘Get Together’, a relatively recent track, have been lovingly reworked my Electro renaissance man Monsieur Adi.

You can tell it’s one of his favourite Madonna tracks by the sheer thought and consideration that has gone into this mix. Slowing the pace and counterpointing his trademark strings with the warmest bass you’ll ever hear Adi creates a deep, enveloping track that you can just sink into.

Johan Agebjörn & Ercola & Queen Of Hearts AND Dreamtrak

Johan Agebjörn & Ercola’s ‘The Last Day Of Summer’ from Johan’s ‘Cassablanca Nights’ album featuring vocal stylings from Queen Of Hearts has gone and got itself a single release with reMix duties performed by Agebjörn collaborator Le Prix, Le Matos, Ercola himself and sometime Queen Of Hearts producer Dreamtrak.

Dreamtrak brings in a deep Pop/House groove with a nice early 90’s feel in the bassline and piano with the kind of FM bassline not heard since D50 and M1 rigs on TOTP played by dudes with floppy hair. All-in-all Dreamtrak has got a perfect grasp on the 90’s DancePop thing, wrapping up those influences in a modern package that sounds nostalgic, without being a pastiche. The Queen’s vocals lend themselves well to his style too.

Show Your Shoe reMixes EP with Beaumont

Show Your Shoe’s recent ‘Technik City’ EP had had a reMix makeover.

‘Technik City Revisited’, currently a Juno exclusive, holds four versions of tracks from the original EP featuring work from Coupons, Flashworx, Mitch Torino and includings this version of ‘Jet Skiing’ by Beaumont. The man gets deep and dark with the rhythm section in a slow, brooding track that threatens to suffocate you but give you glimmers of hope with sparking lead lines and Disco licks. There really needs to be a genre name for Beaumont’s slowed down Disco and Dreamwave. DiscoStep? Dubwave? LOL

Baby Monster third album preview

It’s the third week of Baby Monster previewing tracks from their forthcoming début album!

The tracks are getting spacier and spacier, ‘Mr. Success’ sees Baby Monster rocking a Chillwave vibe, again, amongst their ElectroPop with layers of reverb soaked sounds. There’s actually quite an 80’s influence to this track you can pick out from the waves of Electro Shoegaze, the lead line is pure 80’s Pop. Really looking forward to this record!

Miroir: Build & Clancy’s new project

Holographic People’s first release was awesome, and I can tell you that their second release is awesome. So I shall henceforth be calling them ‘the ever-awesome Holographic People’, which is true,  until further notice.

This week sees the release of the début EP from Miroir, a new project from two producers at the top of the Electro game, Clancy and Build. I’m really digging the ‘So Fewer Particles Scatter’ EP, the thing that initially impressed me about it most is how varied it is. I tend to think of both Build and Clancy as, albeit amazing, producers of Nu-Disco, but this EP goes much further afield than that. If you are into any kind of synthesizer music (and if you’re not, what the hell are you doing here?) there is something for you to love amongst the five tracks here.

Of course, that doesn’t mean the EP doesn’t deliver dancefloor monsters. The opening track, ‘Kites’, is a piano led dance epic and the finale ‘Luminance’ is pure big room, peak time, euphoria, but alongside them you will find the more 80’s sounding title track and ‘Night Sky’, which draws in some Italo influences too. Both stand head and shoulders with the best in retro Electro, melodic and robotic in just the right places. And then there’s ‘Synth Vs. Sea’, a Tangerine Dream-esque atmospheric analog synth love song.

♫ Miroir – Kites

♫ Miroir – Night Sky

♫ Miroir – Synth Vs. Sea

It’s really a exciting thing when producers get to express themselves beyond the confines of what’s expected of them, you get the feeling that Clancy & Build enjoyed making this EP as much as we enjoyed listening to it!

Check out the rest of the EP on the ever-awesome Holographic People’s SoundCloud.

Goin’ Old School: Mantronix – Simple Simon (You Gotta’ Regard)

Before Mantronix was making R&B, Kurtis Mantronik and MC Tee was not only Electro pioneers but the best in their game. From 1984 to 1988 they produced some of the best Electro Hip Hop in the world and constantly reinvented their sound with evolving music production technology, culminating in 1988’s ‘In Full Effect’ album and the ‘Simple Simon (You Gotta’ Regard)’ single.

Mjolnir

Mjolnir, you probably know from their The Chemical Brothers reMix that was doing the rounds a couple of weeks ago. This Indonesian trio make some sweet Disco and Italo influenced ElectroPop that you need to check out.

Picking up the ItaloPop torch from Heartbreak (what’s happened to Heartbreak?) ‘Just A Boy’ is an epic six minutes of mid-80’s sounding SynthPop that could easily be dropped in the middle of an 80’s set and have the crown stroking their chins a commenting that they remember this track, it’s on the tips of their tongues! ‘Midway’ is slightly more contemporary in it’s production but sneaks Duran Duran-esque guitar riff in there amongst the sparkling ElectroPop and vodocer madness, and it’s catchy as hell too.

Mjolnir – Just A Boy

Mjolnir (Feat. Dini) – Midway

They also entered this reMix in Tuff ‘Em up’s Barretso remix competition, it’s some seriously solid Disco.

♫ Barretso – Chase (Mjolnir reMix)

Mjolnir are definatly a trio to keep you eyes on, we expect great things.

Druma Kina reMixes Cosmonaut Grechko

Cosmonaut Grechko + She’s The Queen + Druma Kina! What can go wrong?

Absolutely nothing! Grechko’s collaboration with She’s The Queen’s Emily, ‘All I Hear’ was one of the highlights of his recent (and awesome) ‘Alaska 2100’ EP, throw Brazilian Nu-Disco king Druma Kina into the mix and you’ve got a floor rocking cut-up Nu-Disco edit of the track that’s relentless in it’s funkiness. This is a peak time track that’ll send the crowd crazy.

Totally rad!
