[MP3] Kajagoogoo reMixed SirAiva

kajagoogoo

We tried to fight it off, but we just couldn’t resist this one. Portuguese producer SirAiva has put together this fun filled reMix of Kajagoogoo‘s Too Shy. We just couldn’t help but like this mixture of early 80s Pop and early 90s House, with just a touch of Beach Disco.

We’re not really sure what more can be said on the matter. You all love Too Shy anyway (we know you do), add to that a robotic beat, Chicago basslines, Electro-House riffs, Disco licks. It’s like a melting pop of dance music, but somehow works. Well, it made us smile anyway.

[Audio] Goldroom reMixes Charli XCX

Charli XCX

We’ve been rocking to this track all week. Premièred last Friday on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show, we first heard wind of it the week before. Back before we heard it we asked Josh to describe his reMix in three words, his reply was “heartbreaking, lush, neon”. What more can you ask for in a tune? This is Goldroom’s reMix of Charli XCX’s ‘You (Ha Ha Ha).

So, it’s a combination we have been pretty excited about. It no secret to regular readers that we are particularly enamoured with Charli, and we’ve been following Josh’s career since the good old NightWaves days. Both very different artists, but if there’s one thing we love, it’s two different styles that we are big fans of coming together. Charli’s Gold Panda sampling You (Ha Ha Ha) gets the prefect Dreamwave treatment. Goldroom takes an abrasive, intoxicating ElectroPop track and morphs it into a nostalgic dream. Sprinkled liberally with a Disco groove, the reMix becomes a rolling wave of lush beats, a swirling cloud of intricate sounds, pinned down with an infectious piano hook. All of which lends a new inflection to Charli’s vocals, stripping them of some of their angst, gently bringing out the lament and enhancing the longing. Stellar remix.

[Audio] Com Truise reMixes Maroon 5

Maroon 5

Maroon 5. Yeah you heard us. Bet you never though you’d visit electronic rumors to find an article about Maroon 5, did ya? Honestly, neither did we, but the amazing Mr. Com Truise, SynthWave legend, had delivered a thoroughly awesome reMix of their track One More Night, that’s had us listening to Maroon 5 all day.

So, we have no idea what the original sound like, or if it’s new or old. What we can tell you, though, is that this track is pretty damn cool. The combination of Truise’s spikey synths and vintage beats with what are some surprisingly soulful vocals is pitch perfect for a dreamy SynthPop track. Truise manages to keep the Funk going amidst analog synth slabs and rolling arpeggios, meaning a track that could have sounded quite cold, feels warm and nostalgic. In this context the vocals are actually really enjoyable. Imagine if Maroon 5 really sounded this good.

[Audio] Disclosure & AlunaGeorge

Disclosure & AlunaGeorge

This is White Noise. It’s a collaboration between awesome House duo Disclosure and even awesomer Electro R&B duo AlunaGeorge. It reader it head last night. It broke the internet.

And you can see why, the amount of talent featured in this track isn’t wasted. Disclosure create the perfect, otherworldly, soundtrack. Part Acid House, part Bleep House, all warehouse, White Noise is a nostalgic trip for anyone who was raving in 1990, but the addition of Aluna’s vocals give the whole affair a soulful Pop twist. No-one really thought of ElectroPop Bleep House back in 1990, maybe if they had the scene would have lasted for longer than a year. this is the prefect melding of deep Dance Music vibes and Pop sheen. amazing. (P.S. I refuse to call Bleep House ‘Yorkshire Bleep & Bass’, we called it Bleep House at the time, and I’m sticking with that!)

[MP3] Cut Slack reworks Midnight Star

Midnight Star

Here’s Portuguese outfit Cut Slack with a brand new track. This time it’s ‘80s electro Soul outfit Midnight Star that gets Cut Slack’s attention with their reworking of their 1986 classic Midas Touch.

Rather than a reMix, this track is a masterclass in how Edits should be done. Cut Slack have completely stripped back the vocals, leaving only a faint, processed, trace of the song to haunt the beats. then by highlighting the tunes dancefloor qualities, Cut Slack turn the track into the prefect Synth Disco groove. This track is full of the best in nostalgic electronic Disco. Big stabs, twisting synth riffs, a boogie down beat and load of head nodding attitude. One of the middle of the dancefloor.

[Audio] Little Boots & Maya Jane Coles & James Ford, oh my!

Little Boots

So, we’re breaking tons of rules here. Our own rules that is. Fist up, we’re posting clips of tracks, which is a massive no-no for us. Generally, anything under 3m00s will go straight in our Inbox trash, regardless of who delivers it. Secondly, we’re using an ugly as hell Juno player. As a rule we’ll only use content delivery systems we can at least a little bit hack to make it fit the site’s aesthetics, the Juno widget is an ugly beast that’s you can’t even resize, which really messes with our 500px format. However, this release is a) amazing and b) only available on vinyl. If it remains only on vinyl, this might be your only chance to hear it, so rule breaking ahoy! But it’s a one off, do not expect us to make a habit of it, so on your bike with your 1m45s clips!

And what’s caused all this ruckus then? It’s a 12”, released yesterday, by LB, and once you’ve heard the vocals you’ll be pretty confident as to what LB stands for. The track, Superstitious Heart, is a collaboration between Little Boots, Maya Jane Coles and Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford. The track was written by The Boots, Maya and Ford with Maya stepping up on production duties. Deep and Techy sounds abound, as you would expect for this line up. Musically Maya’s influence seems to stand out, but we can also hear The Boots indulging her well documented love of 90s House. The shuffling beat and rounded bass are beautiful and hypnotic, while The Boots opts for a suitably intimate performance. The track is backed up with another Deep House tune. On Whatever Sets You Free, The Boots teams up with London producer Baunz to drop some ethereal warehouse vibes. The 12” is rounded off with Dub version of both tracks. If the tracks ever hit some kind of new fangled internet streaming service we’ll bring you a closer look, but, if you’ve got decks, this needs to be on them.

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

This week Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark announced their forthcoming new album, English Electric, which is due out 8th April. What better time, then, to drop a couple of classic OMD track, starting with their biggest single, 1980’s Enola Gay.

Followed by Maid Of Orleans (The Waltz Joan Of Arc), from 1982.

[Audio] Patrick Baker’s new single

Patrick Baker

Amazing Retro Pop artist Patrick Baker is gearing up for the release of his début single. Released next month, Get 2 Know U is actually the first track of Patrick’s we featured on electronic rumors, back in June last year, and now it’s getting a proper release, backed with a pretty special reMix package, in anticipation of Baker’s album release later this year.  Televisor Jolie Cherie

You’ve probably heard Get 2 Know U by now, it’s a lush slice of 80s Americana. when we first wrote about it we commented that Patrick baker is to American 80s Pop what Kid Kasio is to British 80s Pop, and that’s true. Patrick authentically creates a nostalgic vision of the US charts in the great decade. Get 2 Know U is a catchy, upbeat slab of ElectroPop. Fun and funky, what more could you want? reMixes come from Robots With Rayguns with a deep, west coast, Pop mix, Televisor, who inject the track with a summery, beach-party, vibe and lends Get 2 Know U some Nu-Disco flair, and France’s Jolie Cherie, who turn in a relaxed, spacey, Disco tinged ElectroPop mix that has a nice warm sound to round of the single. We’re so pleased Patrick is starting to release stuff properly and predict big things from this guy.
