[Audio] Paperwhite reMixes Fickle Friends’ ‘Swim’

Fickle Friends

A big shout out to Breaking More Waves for turning us on to this one, and it’s right up our street. Fickle Friends are a UK IndiePop outfit whos début single, Swim, has been making quite stir on blogs who like a bit of jangly guitar. From the sound of it we expect them to be festival faves over the coming summer. What we’ve got here, though, is a reMix of the track from Brooklyn DreamPop duo Paperwhite, who do things to the song that come straight from our dreams.

Thick 80s Pop beats, with a hint of a B-boy groove, matched up with popping, summery synths and rich pads. The vocals sound like they were always meant for ElectroPop, the whole package is just pretty stunning. Energetic ElectroPop with just the right amount of nostalgia and just the right amount of swing. This tune has been played to death here in the last 48 hours, and we’re still nowhere close to getting bored of it, it’s got a classic sound that I don’t think we’d ever tire of. Definitely keeping a massive beady eye on Paperwhite from now on.

[Audio] Metronomy’s ‘Love Letters’

metronomy

Devon Indie-ElectroPopsters Metronomy have unveiled the title track of their eagerly awaited new album, Love Letters. As tasters of what to expect from the new record go, it follows November’s I’m Aquarius single and will also be released as a single. Unlike I’m Aquarius, the track won’t be premièring through an astronomy app, which is a shame, but the track doesn’t need any fanfare. Just listen.

Love Letters is a bizarrely Honky-Tonk take on ElectroPop. With a 60s flair and a buoyant piano hook, the track is strangely enchanting. Feeling like it never takes itself too seriously, the mixture of synths, with woozy vintage sounds, a seriously LFO’d organ and a staggering muted trumpet solo make for an interesting, and unusually compelling track. A break from the norm for Metronomy, but a fun one.

[Download] Mereki’s ‘Blue Lake’ reMixed by Wmnstudies

Mereki

We thought we’d gotten all we possibly could out of LA ElectroPopper Mereki’s Blue Lake; but it’s the song that keeps on giving. This latest reMix comes courtesy of Canadian duo Wmnstudies. We have no idea how they perceive you are supposed to pronounce that (and, frankly, the dropping vowels thing, if there are vowels dropped, is so unoriginal now), but we do know they have done a sterling job, delivering an undulating, soothing, House rework of the track and another awesome addition to their rapidly expanding impressive catalogue.

With just a hint of Topical purcussion, Wmnstudies wrap Mereki’s enchanting voice around a selection of rounded beats, warm keys and playful use of the vocals. Smoothing the song out, the duo intertwine the bass and drums into one juggernaut rhythm section that is compelling and utterly hard to resist. Fast becoming out favourite reMix of Blue Lake, Wmnstudies’ version of the track serves up just the right amount of bouncy House action, just enough to make you look forward to summer; not so much you don’t want to be in the now.

Mereki’s début EP is due out soon.

[Audio] She’s The Queen reMixes Lightwaves’ ‘Returned’

Lightwaves

Last week the mighty Lightwaves continued their sweeping comeback with the new single Returned. This week Jan and crew add the icing on the cake with a stellar reMix from our very own She’s The Queen. I doubt at this point there’s any point in us even pretending there’s no bias here, in our opinion She’s The Queen are two of the most talented people on the planet, card carrying members of the electronic rumors family, and a couple of the nicest people you will ever meet. So, for the next paragraph, pretend it’s being written by someone who doesn’t love them. Y’know, like a critic or something.

This reMix is super awesome! If you ever managed to find the end of a rainbow you’d discover a pot of this reMix! Seriously though, Drew amps the energy with masterful Pop beats and big, shiver inducing, synths. With just a pinch of nostalgia, this immensely slick slice of ElectroPop is guaranteed to worm it;s way into your heart. What we’re saying is it’s pretty fucking good; but then, we’re bound to say that aren’t we, so just listen.

[Audio] Years & Years’ ‘Real’

Years&Years

The latest release from Kitsuné Music’s low key future-stars Years & Years is out next month. The follow up to their Traps single of late last summer, Real is set to be another critically acclaimed release from this London based three (cut down from five) piece. With a little studio magic from much hyped upcoming producer Lxury, these guys have crafted quite a unique, soulful, House/ElectroPop sound for themselves.

Distinctly British, and utterly compelling, Real is one of those track you just have to listen to a few times. Sitting in that particularly London place where UK House, Garage and R&B meet ElectroPop, Years & Years serve up a platter of warm, bassy synths and shuffling rhythms that coalesce into a backing for frontman Olly Alexander’s heartfelt and distant vocal. Try not clapping along, we dare you.

[Download] Alison Valentine’s ‘Curious’

Alison Valentine

Curious is the new one from one of New York’s finest Indie-ElectroPop exports Alison Valentine. We last saw Ally V being featured on a Kitsuné compilation with Circles And Triangles; since then she’s teamed up with one of today’s great unsung analog synth wizards, Chrome Canyon, to produce this lush slice of summery Pop on a vintage Disco meets über-cool IndiePop tip.

Curious is an intoxicating meeting of Allison’s sweet voice and penchant for roller-rink jams with the swooshing, Sci-Fi Disco sounds of Chrome Canyon. Laid back keys ease the song into your heart before introducing warm, funky, bass and a feel-good groove. Warbling synths drag this tune straight out of the 70’s into 2014 with a tune that primed for the summer. Amongst the relaxed poolside sounds Allison’s vocals make the track. A hazy dream; the song is like a wave of catchiness that gets well stuck in your head.

Alison Valentine’s Curious is available to download now on her own label (and, apparently, florist) 11 x 11.
