The Magician’s ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’ EP

themagician

In exactly one months time The Magician unleashes his début solo single, ‘I Don’t Know What To Do’, on Kitsuné Music.

By now you’ve already heard the original track, featuring Jeppe on vocals. It’s got that hypnotic late ‘80’s House piano sound and Jeppe’s anthemic chant combine with thick, lush synths to make a track that will uplift dancefloors worldwide. the EP is chock full of awesomeness too, reMixes come correct from Plastic Plates, Second Date and our boy Fabian. Second Date bring some seriously deep Disco to the table with an almost sub bassline and beach guitar forming the basis for their brand of Disco, and unusual mix definitely. Plastic Plates always come through with the goods and here is no different. Synthetic Electro Disco loaded with my beloved electro toms. PP’s reMix has this slick jazzy synth lead that sets a really nice groove for the track. But it’s the man Fabian who really blows this EP up, starting his track understated with a smoothly building arpeggio that soon gives way to a massive LA Dreamwave track with a booty shaking Funk bass that moves your body while the thick synth chords send your brain to the stratosphere.

Qkumba Zoo’s new album

qkumba zoo

You may remember South African dance act Qkumba Zoo. Well, they storm back this month with a brand new album. There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is their sound hasn’t changed or evolved in the slightest since the ‘90’s, the good news is their sound hasn’t changed or evolved in the slightest since the ‘90’s!

Now is the prefect time for Qkumba Zoo to strike while the iron is hot. With the current resurgence of interest in ‘90’s dance music and the creeping of ‘90’s dance sounds and production techniques into contemporary club records, Qkumba Zoo’s new album, ‘LetTheLightIn’, sounds pleasingly nostalgic. The big 909 beats, occasional breaks and layered floaty vocals that run throughout the record feel almost retro these days. It’s vocalist Levannah that really drives this album, her effortless sliding, between the chanted and the ethereal, weaves an audio narrative  that is surprisingly involving, and if you can get into the ‘90’s groove then the album is a good experience. If you’ve been chilling in the sun this summer, busting out the old Orbital or Opus III as the ‘90’s revival hits full swing, then this album will be right up your alley.

The Magician’s new single

themagician

Awesome news. The Magician is finally ready to drop his first proper solo single!

‘I Don’t Know What To Do’, with Jeppe on vocal duties, is as good as we would have expected. The Magician has layered his electronic Disco with a really nice late 80’s House sound, the piano and the 909 rimshots give the track a real retro feel. Even the vocals are pretty late 80’s. but this isn’t cheap nostalgia, this is a serious House tinged ElectroPop track.

The Opiates’s new reMix EP

the opiates

The Opiates is the some time collaboration between our favourite Electro Diva Billie Ray Martin and Norwegian musician Robert Solheim.

The are gearing up for the release of the ‘Rainy Days And reMixes’ EP in September ahead of their first full length album ‘Hollywood Under The Knife’ later in the year. The lead track from the EP, ‘Rainy Days And Saturdays’ is a beautiful lament over nostalgia that never existed. With hints of electronic Trip-Hop and a moody synthetic atmosphere tempered by a strain of hope in Miss Martins vocals. The EP comes chock with reMixes, including Kim Ann Foxman’s take on ‘Jalousies And Jealousies’ that got support from Vito Aeroplane in his last mixtape and Industrial legends Chris & Cosey’s deep Acid SynthPop version of ‘Anatomy Of A Plastic Girl ‘/

Monsieur Adi reMixes Madonna’s ‘Erotica’

madonna

Monsieur Adi’s trilogy of Madonna reMixes seems to have given up trying to be a trilogy, grabbed his Madonna record collection and run with it.

This time he’s taking on ‘Erotica’ and gives us something a little different, but inspired genius. Tribal, almost dancehall, beast and robotic vocal manipulation which builds and builds it’s hypnotic groove until a peak where it injects the bit we’re all waiting for. Adi immaculate orchestration. The huge strings and brass then giveaway to an edgy, haunting ending. Monsieur Adi nails is again, the layers and textures with which he crafts his reMix really put him in a league of his own.
