Reflex’s ‘Wavering’

French duo Reflex, last seen reMixing Juveniles’ ‘Ambitions’ are about to drop their new single, ‘Wavering’.

‘Reflex’ seems like a fitting title for this amazingly ‘80’s sounding ElectroPop act. ‘Wavering’ is all bouncy retro lead lines over a pumping French Disco backing. The track is destined to be pretty big, it has everything you want really, it’s quirky and Indie SynthPop, but at the same time big dancefloor Disco and the sultry French-accented vocals are just the icing on the cake. What’s more, the reMix package is an impressive collection too, our friends JBAG drop a stand out dancefloor Pop mix full of bass groove and strings, while Kido Yoji supplies the single with an injection of Nu-Disco Funk for smooth summer nights. Backed up with a B-Side and equally slick reMixes from Second Date and Bitchee Bitchee Ya Ya Ya the whole package comes highly recommended.

Baron Von Luxxury’s ‘The Last Seduction’

Blake Robin A.K.A. Baron Von Luxxury has been creeping around, injecting classic sounding tracks and reMixes into out consciousness for a while now and this week saw the release of his new album, ‘The Last Seduction’. Be warned, it’s ElectroPop gold!

The album seems like, I don’t mind saying, the perfect meeting of Nu-Disco and ‘80’s SynthPop, from the opening track, the Moroder stylings of ‘The Lovely Theresa’, it’s all cosmic Disco grooves and big ‘80’s choruses. there is something so addictive in the Baron’s mastery of both Funky dancefloor grooves and what can only be described as big, classic, Pop hooks. The album ranges from The Human League-esque straight-up SynthPop such as ‘Alice Underground’ to floor shaking Disco groovers like the title track. He’s roped in some help too Keenhouse contributes synth work and production here and there and returning the favour for his reMix of ‘Meddle’ Little Boots shows up on ‘That Disco Beat’, a big DiscoPop epic. To be honest I can imagine any readers of this site that I wouldn’t recommend this album to!

Matt Mendez’s new single

French Disco DJ Matt Mendez dropped his first artist EP this week for free on his SoundCloud page, and it’s an impressive début.

‘Square’ is a groove laden dancefloor rocker. Smooth and funky the track also hides a more futuristic side with Acid burbling and machine beats amongst the Disco good times.  He’s roped in some impressive talent for remix duties, for a free EP, too. Tknik drop my favourite of the mixes with a massive slice of Robo Funk, while The Phantom’s Revenge and Le Crayon both bring their best Nu-Disco game to the table with their versions. Daxman and Q.G. mixes complete the package. For a free EP, and a début, this is impressive stuff that will fuel your weekend.

British DJ Shit Hot Soundsystem shows us how edits should be done with his dancefloor rework of Junior’ ‘Mamma Used To Say’.

First off, it’s an inspired choice of track to edit, just on track choice alone SHS has already got the dancefloor in the palm of his hand, by layering the big beats and squelchy cosmic synths. Shit Hot Soundsystem brings the best bits of the original and makes the work harder than they’ve ever worked before.

Discotexas’s ‘Bucket Of Love’ 2

The awesome Discotexas are gearing up for the release of their second ‘Bucket Of Love’ compilation, collection the last few months of amazing releases from the label.

The first volume was a must have compilation of Discotexas’ late 2012/early 2011 big tunes and this release looks set to be just as essential. Discotexas one one of the few labels around who are absolutely consistent in the quality of their releases, every one seems to be a stormer. Infernal Devices’ ‘A Million Miles Above’ EP

Infernal Devices

Infernal Devices are a Brooklyn based duo who came together over a shared love of ‘80’s Sci-Fi and electronic music which they pout into their futuristic ElectroPop, as displayed on their forthcoming new EP ‘A Million Miles Above’.

The five track record is actually quite a strange beast, there’s a whole load of influences I can hear in there which makes me wonder how many of them are accidental. At it’s core it’s a Pop record, much if it’s structure is pure ‘80’s SynthPop, but it’s production sways from Modern SynthPop to DancePop to EuroDance, even a little SynthWave, with each track. That’s not to say it’s disjointed, it isn’t, there is a running theme of soaring, buzzing synths and impassioned vocals throughout the EP that ties it all together neatly. Some catchy tunes too, take the lead track, ‘Life In Stereo’, a track with a robotic groove tempered by a warm vocal style and an overall out that would appeal not just to SynthPop fans but fans of crossover dance too.

Computer Magic’s new EP

Computer Magic is 22 year old DJ/Blogger/Graphic Designer Danz who has caught the eye of Kitsuné Music, who featured her on their last Maison album and are about to release her new EP.

Computer Magic’s ‘Orion’ EP is a wonderful journey through her Sci-Fi inspired electronic BedroomPop. As a whole the EP sounds at once like something very introspective, and at the same time a declaration of intent to the world. Danz’s brand of SynthPop is striped down and sparse, kinda’ quirky and raw but with an underlying Funk. Coming from that Brooklyn school of electronic Pop that has spawned more than a few BedroomPop artists who all manage a uniqueness to their sound, Computer Magic’s own groove in the genre is is futuristic, youthful, full of both energy and optimism, introspective and melancholy. Biscuit tin beats and toytown synths hammer out playful melodies while Danz’s vocals sound at once  more mature than her age and full of childlike wonder. It’s no surprise that Kitsuné picked up Computer Magic, she’s got the right amounts of danceability and personality they tend to go for. And so do we.

Pteez

Pteez

At some point the Russian SynthWave scene is going to have to slow down for a bit and let the rest of the world catch up, this past year so many amazing acts have come out of Russia. Pteez is latest in this long line to mix ‘80’s soundtrack electronics with a touch of funky Nu-Disco.

All three of the tracks on Pteez SoundCloud display a skill for getting an Italo groove going and warping it a little for the dancefloor. ‘Stardust’ is one of my favourites,  bright, sparkling synths dance over retro Italo basslines. But far from ridged, it’s got a late ‘80’s Electronic Soul swing that saw white guys dancing like fantastic idiots for the better part of the decade. ‘Soundwind’ is deeper, more traditional SynthWave, epic movie soundtrack stuff that thrives on huge retro chords and soaring leads that carry along in it’s story. ‘Trains In Colour’ had got an awesome B-Boy Electro flavour to it, a nice Electro Funk in it’s FM bassline. It’s not often you get to hear a proper meeting of B-Boy Electro and SynthWave and ‘Trains In Colour’ really nails it, with it’s twisted leads and synth toms its a rack after my own heart.

Chromatics’ ‘Lady Video

Chromatics’ new video, ‘Lady’ is all shiny nostalgic goodness.

Alberto Rossini directed the video for Johnny Jewel’s vintage SynthPop outfit and stuck with the vintage theme with grainly shot footage with a late ‘70’s feel.

‘Lady’ is taken from Chromatics’ forthcoming second Italians Do It Better album, ‘Kill For Love’.

Mental Minority

Mental Minority

Mental Minority is, well, is a German SynthWave producer. That’s about all we know about him. But that’s a good thing, because there’s loads to talk about the music!

He’s recently dropped a new track ‘T.V. Outrun’ and an new EP ‘Moodshifter’. Both display his love of ‘80’s and Italo. ‘T.V. Outrun’ is a bouncy, swirling peice that mixes the Italo bassline with epic shifting pads and sparkling synth melodies. It;s a good introduction to Mental Minority’s sound. Emotive and involving synthesizer soundtracks. The ‘Moodshifter’ EP is free from his SoundCloud page and contains five tracks of electronic soundscapes and retro beats. The highlight being ‘Shifting the Decades’ an Italo journey that conjures visions of Tokyo skylines, robotic beats with the soul of the orient. The whole EP is definitely worth checking out.
