[Audio] Meloder’s ‘Affection’ EP

Meloder

Affection is the title of the new EP from London based House producer Meloder. Released this week on Pole Position Recordings, this is the second EP from this guy who’s making quite a name for himself on the London club scene. His roots in the deeper and darker side of House music sine though on this strangely compelling release.

Affection boasts seven tracks, which is pretty generous for an EP and verging on mini-album territory. Save for one self-reMix the are all original tunes that kick off in fine style with the bombastic Citadel. Citadel really draws you into the EP, at nearly eight minutes it’s an enigmatic, House oddessy, and so so deep, but with a deepness that never forgets the dancefloor with punchy bass and relentless beats. Get Tight drags you even deeper and even has some Hard Trance overtones to it. And so the EP continues, drawing you closer and closer to it’s dark heart, as the haunting and robotic title tracks woozy mood is broken by the uplifting respite of No Time, an amazing warehouse jam. The spacy SynthPop style of Night & Day follows before the EP plays out on the squelchy bassline of Feeling Me. IT;s an exciting release whether you’re into Deep House or just a love of synthesizer music. You should check it out.

Deep and emotional House genius Maya Jane Coles’ enigmatic House epic, Comfort, is easily one of our albums of the year, with Burning Bright, featuring Hercules And Love Affair’s Kim Ann Foxman, one of it’s highlights.

Here’s the video for the track, directed by Thomas Knights, which sees Foxman getting all ritualistic with a recently deceased Coles.

[Audio] Bxentric’s ‘Surrender’ (+Kevin McKay & Phil Kelsey reMix)

Bxentric

Well, it really has been quite a while since we heard an original tune from Nu-Disco producer Bxentric. Apart from the wonderful Foolishness, which featured on Aeroplane’s In-Flight Entertainment compilation last year, you have to go way back to 2010 and tunes like Complete and Vice (awesome tracks) to grab a bit of Bxentic goodness. Keeping busy he seems to have dropped the ‘-‘ and the ‘!’, grabbed Bristolian songstress Emily Breez from Vents, and lines up a storming release for the always top Glasgow Underground.

Surrender is an atmospheric and evocative slice of huge sounding Italo Pop. Actually, surprisingly so. It’s a far more straight-up ElectroPop track than we would have expected, but we like being surprised, and we were certainly pleasantly surprised by the classic 80s sound of Surrender. Breez’s borderline Goth croon curls it’s way around the track like smoke, whist Bxentric delivers pulsating basslines, ghostly arpeggios and razor sharp retro leads, but despite all these robotic elements, Bxentric injects the track with a nostalgic warmth too. reMixes on the single come from Cosmic Kids, Kevin McKay and a couple of versions from Kevin McKay & Phil Kelsey, including their Club Mix, which serves up the track with a side order of burbling Deep House groove.

[Audio] The Soft’s ‘Prana’

the soft

This new slice of atmospheric, left-field electronics from Suffolk outfit The Soft turns out to be surprisingly funky. Prana, their second single, dropped this week ahead of forthcoming release of their Uncanny Valley EP, both on Ceremony, and it’s a luscious mix of Chillwave, Minimal Synth and Deep House.

Imagine if the singer from some post-Punk band wandered into a German House producers studio mid-recording and started giving it some mic. Now imagine all of this was being committed to tape with a psychedelic stepped, reverb happy, Chillwave producer behind the mixing desk, and you’re halfway there. It’s all very stripped down but spacey, with a solid groove and an emotional lament from The Soft’s vocalist. If you want to get lost in something, you could do worse than this.

[Audio] Russ Chimes reMixes Laura Welsh

laurawelsh

It’s not out until next month, but stop what you’re doing and listen, there a new Russ Chimes reMix in town. This time the man has turned his considerable talents to the forthcoming new single from London based songstress Laura Welsh, Cold Front. And you know we love a new Russ Chimes reMix, so lets dive in.

This one is turning up just as the British weather is looking like it’s actually becoming summer, which is spot on timing. Whist keeping things pretty deep, Chimes’ mix is optimistic and euphoric, without being in any way cheesy. It’s just a feel good House track with a deep groove. Welsh’s vocals are a sultry dream over the smooth club sounds. You can tell this is one of those tunes that, when it drops, the dancefloor seems to become one, unified in moving to the beat and the bass. Can’t wait to hear this in a club.

The Other Tribe

Earlier this month we presented you with Your Kisses, the exclusive pre-order track that accompanies Bristolian Tropical/House/Indie-Electro mashup crew The Other Tribe’s forthcoming new single, My Girl. Now here’s the headlining tune itself, released later this summer it;s set to take the tail end of the festival season by storm.

Encompassing The Other Tribe’s now familiar melting pot of House beats, tribal purcussion, Tropical vibes and sunshine optimism, My Girl is another summer stormer from this five piece. Working just as well as a Deep House track headed straight for the dancefloor as it does an Indie anthem, commanding a euphoric sing-a-log crowd experience, the new single combines woody House basslines with burbling synths and a soaring vocal. Truly one of the finest Indie-Electro outfits in the UK right now.

Desert Night is the second single from Australian Indie-ElectroPoppers Rüfüs’ forthcoming new album, Atlas. A bit of a divergence from the big ElectroPop and Dreamwave tinged tunes we are used to from Rüfüs, Desert Night bring something a little richer.

With a Deep House backing, Desert Night delivers woody Chicago basslines and piercing synths to accompany a gentle croon. Combining the ElectroPop and the 90s House vibes makes for an interesting combination that definitely has us eager to hear what the album holds. When the single drops it will be backed by reMixes from Jesse Rose, Motez, James Curd, Avon Stringer and Victor Lassance.

the-other-tribe_thumb

This is Your Kisses, a track that will be available exclusively with pre-orders of Bristol’s finest Indie-Electro rabble rousers The Other Tribe’s forthcoming new single My Girl. A soulful House track, this could have been a single in it’s own right, but who can turn down a freebie?

Nicely mixing up The Other Tribes’ infectious tribal EelctroPop with a slick deep House groove, Your Kisses is a perfect late night jam. There’s even a hint of a Torpical vibe in there too, which gives it a nice summery feel. Not that anything The Other Tribe turn their attention to doesn’t turn out summery as hell. If you get the chance to catch these guys live during the warmer months, you’d be a fool not to.
