[Audio] Karin Park’s ‘Shine’

Karin Park

Late next month the amazing Karin Park releases a brand new single. Shine is the first new material from the Scandinavian ice queen since her 2012 album Highwire Poetry; not counting her awesome collaboration with Maya Jane Coles last year. This new tune sees Karin slipping into more of a Deep House vibe alongside her spikey SynthPop.

Some of Cole’s bassy dancefloor groove seems to have rubbed off on Ms. Park, Shine is an hypnotic, undulating, bass heavy juggernaut whos dark, heavy synths oozes out of the speakers, cut through with razor sharp leads. Karin’s unusual mix of soft and abrasive in her vocals works better here than ever, complementing perfectly the comforting, yet unsettling, electronic soundtrack. If there’s a new album on the horizon we are very excited.

[Audio] Lenno reMixes The Young Punx’s ‘All These Things Are Gone’

The YOung Punx

This week MofoHifi’s The Young Punx release their new single, All This Things Are Gone. It’s a fourteen minute deep, groovy, House epic that includes mention of lots and lots of things that are (somewhat) gone that’s taken from their forthcoming album of the same name. The single comes complete with this tightened, big room, rework from the Finnish main man Lenno that’s sure to get a hammering in certain clubs this year.

The combination of the nostalgic, relatable, lyrics and Lenno’s blissful, almost Dreamwave, production is hard to resist. With undulating apreggios and lush, thick, synth riffs riding over  tough beats, Lenno delivers utterly compelling dancefloor vibes with more than a couple of hands-in-the-air moments. Musically, it’s kinda’ reminiscent of 2008’s Dreamwave flavour, but with updated Club elements, which all works perfectly with the dual robotic and impassioned vocals. We don’t like to use the word ‘banger’ much (because it;s not 2007 any more), but banger!

[Audio] Soft Metals’ ‘When I Look Into Your Eyes’ reMixed by L-Sedition

Soft Metals

When two acts we’re particularly fond of come together it;s always a cause for excitement. Especially when those two acts are at the forefront of intelligent electronic music. Portland Minimal Synth outfit Soft Metals’ Lenses album was one of the highlights of last year for us, so we’re stoked to hear there is a reMix album on the horizon, even more stoked that one of the reMixes comes from ex-Violet Tremors; L-Sedition, further stoked to première the reMix right here. That’s a lot of stoked, we know, but listen to the tune and you’ll hear why.

The reMix is actually surprisingly Housey, with a real old school flavour that’s a mix of Chicago and Detroit. The hypnotic beat, best suited to strobe light business, carries you along past waves of grinding synths and sparking arpeggios. With just a haunting hint of the original’s vocals, L-Sedition crafts an engrossing, striped back, vintage Dance sound without forgetting the edgy SynthPop roots of the track.
