[Audio] Keep Shelly In Athens’ new single

KEEP-SHELLY-IN-ATHENS-575x593

Acclaimed left-field ElectroPop outfit Keep Shelly In Athens have announced their signing to Cascine for the release of the début full-length record. To celebrate the occasion they have unleashed the first single from the album onto an unsuspecting world.

Madmen Love is four minutes of brutal beauty. Deep, ominous bass synths and fidgety, industrial percussion. It’s a track that has a lot in common with much Minimal Synth, dark synthetic pulsating, kling-klang beats and tormented vocals that are pretty relentless, giving way only briefly the the dreamiest of breakdowns, just to build toward a cacophonous climax. Taking in influenced as varied as  UK bass the more avant-garde Goth, Madmen Love is modern Post-Punk done right.

[Audio] Viceroy and Chela reMixed by Alfa

viceroy-dream-of-bombay-feat-chela_thumb

I know you’re full, but surely there’s room for one more morsel of  Viceroy and Chela’s frankly amazing Dream Of Bombay? Of course there is! Especially when it comes from Binary O.G. and moustache aficionado Alfa. There’s always time for Alfa!

Taking a different route with the track than the other mixes, from Bit Funk, Wax Motif and Bufi, Alfa creates on a head on collision between classic Daft Punk and Moog Funk. Pulsating, relentless synth bass and vocals transformed into groove laden melodies dominate the track. Big, sweeping synths take the track to the next level, giving the funky little licks a Cosmic vibe. It;s probably the most rough ‘n’ ready version of Dream of Bombay, and one that eschews the originals song structure, but it’s also a guaranteed floor filler. This’ll keep ‘em dancing!

[MP3] Oxford reMixes Felix Da Housecat & Miss Kittin

Felix Da Housecat

reMixing Felix Da Housecat and Miss Kittin’s ElectroClash classic Silver Screen (Shower Scene) is not for the faint hearted. The track springs to mind as an untouchable piece of electronic music legend. But things have moved on, and maybe it is time for someone to bring Silver Screen along with it. We’re grateful that that someone was French Nu-Disco producer Oxford, who has treated the track with the respect it deserves, but dropped a completely original five minutes of captivating Disco too.

Kitten’s deadpan vocals remain, but this time around they are riding on the sweetest of Beach Funk grooves. Perfectly produced, Oxford words every last drop of groove he’s got to deliver a rolling bassline, sweeping synths and and a laid back beat, all nicely tied together with some smooth electric piano. If asked, we would have probably advised against trying to reMix Silver Screen, but we would have been astoundingly glad Oxford didn’t heed our nonsense.

[Audio] Monarchy reMixed by The Leadings

Monarchy

Time for one more reMix of SynthPop duo Monarchy’s amazing, Dita Von Teese featuring, Disintegration? this last one comes from Lofelife from Spanish outfit The Leadings and apparently features contributions from Fran Gas (Varry Brava), Rafa López (Donflúor) and Alejandro Méndez (Lori Meyers), but we couldn’t tell you doing what.

If this is the last reMix, they are going out with a bang. On the face of it, it’s a big Funky House mix, full of big beats and an infectious piano hook. But beneath that lies some funky Disco bass, a Spanish guitar injection, a big room build, sweeping cosmic synths. It’s a melting pot of dancefloor sounds that does Monarchy’s epic track justice.

[MP3] Chrome Canyon reMixed by Chateau Marmont

Chrome Canyon

Last month we raved about Brooklyn synth magician Chrome Canyon new video for Generations which is taken from his jaw droppingly good album of last year Elemental Themes. It’s a gorgeous slice of Sci-Fi synth work that has now been given an eclectic workout by French analog adventurers Chateau Marmont. The meeting of these two yields an amazing, nostalgic, evocative synthesizer excursion.

To be released on Chrome Canyon’s forthcoming Elemental reMixes EP, which, as you can probably guess, holds some killer reMixes of tracks from Elemental Themes. Including this one. Imagine the BladeRunner melody from Generations, paired with eccentric percussion and, just a revelling in analog synths. Injecting the original with an exotic edge only highlights the culture mashing Dystopian feel to the track. The EP will also include work from Peaking Lights, Tomas Barfod, Gavin Rusom, Mike Simonetti, ATTAR!, Matthewdavid, Airbird, Eclectic Method, Saarid and Freak You

[MP3] Lovegang Presents Kathy Diamond

kathy

The mighty Lovegang out of Hamburg have lined up a sweet new single from Kathy Diamond. Kathy, also the voice of  The KDMs, sounds amazing as ever on this new track, Let There Be Love. Originally written for Lovegang Eau De Parfum, which is the smell the Lovegang dance collective smells like, I guess the tune serves up classic House sounds and a euphoric vocal.

The EP comes equipped with numerous versions, there Day and Night flipsides of the original, providing a Discoy ElectroPoppy and  Deep Chicago House versions respectively. Spanish producer Simøne’s take on the tune channels early 80s SynthPop with a toytown Disco twist and rounding out the package is French House artist Heko. Heko’s remix walks the line between groove Acid and retro Disco House. Working nostalgic synth stabs against burbling Acid lines is a unique combination, but one that works really well, providing a nice backdrop of snatches of Diamond’s vocals. An awesome package that comes pretty highly recommended.

[Audio] Voltron & A.N.D.Y.

Voltron

Taking their cues from the current wave of House and Electronic influenced R&B (or is that R&B influenced House and Electronic?) currently driving London crazy, and also from giant combining mecha lions, comes Belgian duo Voltron. This week they release their new single, Let Go, via Smile Recordings.

Sounding a bit like what would happen if AlunaGeorge spent a little too long in a Belgian EBM clubs, Let Go has got an underlying New Beat vibe but it’s mostly sumptuous, complex, rolling electronic Soul. Full of shifting rhythms, cut-up vocals and haunting electronic tones, oh, and a sudden distorted 909 kick. This is all wrapped up in a moody Pop sheen and in catchy vocal. Fellow Belgian A.N.D.Y. plays up the Housier elements for his sole reMix. Twisting the vocals into deep, involving Chicago warehouse jam.

[MP3] New tune from Touch Tone

Touch Tone

If your after some bombastic, theatrical Cosmic Disco to shake the cobwebs out of your head and kick off your week, then you’ve come to the right place. LA’s Touch Tone is back with another new tune. raw House beats and insane cinematic strings combine on Voilà, a track that worms it’s was inside your head and takes control like a Ceti Eel.

Once again Touch Tone nails the mood. A tad Housier than his precious offerings, Voilà has got a slightly cacophonous feel to it, like being confronted with a wall of punchy beats, drama fuelled strings and bouncy synth bass all coming down on your at once. But Touch Tone handles this wall-of-Disco-sound with ease, deftly bringing in one phrase after another, building the tension of the track, especially in the breakdown, until the hook kicks back in with such anticipation it’s almost a relief. Touch Tone has masterfully created a track that is not only a dancefloor winner, but manipulates the mood of the listener, drawing them into a sweeping optimist powered by nervous energy. Well, it is a homage to 70s Sci-Fi soundtracks!
