Rogue Vogue

Rogue Vogue is a project from Chicago’s Thomas Mountebank who has just burst into view with two storming tracks set to funk you over.

Combining classic Chicago House sounds with Nu-Disco grooves and a funky feeling both Rouge Vogue’s tunes are laidback head nodders that are impossible to ignore. ‘Sunshine’n’ is a re-interpretation of Roy Ayers’ ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine’ and brings a chilled House piano and a spacey Funk vibe to the immediately recognisable vocals while ‘Breeze’ takes The Isley Brothers’ ‘Summer Breeze’ as it’s base and drags it kicking and screaming to the Disco as smooth summer jam with a touch of Chicago Acid.

Amalia & Volta Cab

Amalia

Volta Cab who are, as you’ll know if you follow hum on SoundCloud, the hardest working act in Nu-Disco has turned his reMix attention to Modern Funk queen Amalia’s ‘All The Funk I Need’.

The resulting track is some of the dreamiest, chilled Disco you’ll hear all year. From the opening electric piano the tune just oozes cool, with some laidback slap bass and cosmic synths. Produced a few months ago as part of the Amalia reMix competition this track definitely deserves your attention if you missed it. Perfect for these breezy summer nights.

Monsieur Adi reMixes Madonna’s ‘Frozen’

Here it is, ‘Frozen’ is the final part of Monsieur Adi’s trilogy of Madonna  reMixes, and he’s going out with a bang!

Seriously, this tune is just majestic. ‘Frozen’ is a track that’s very close to Adi, he writes “The final remix of this trilogy is one of Frozen. It is such an iconic song of Madonna that really first made me notice Madonna. The delicacy, fragility, and darkness of the song matched with the video really left a mark on me. Just last year I have lost my mother which was the hardest thing I have ever experienced in my life ; I don’t believe anything else could hurt me as much as that. After it, I suppose I became a little “Frozen” creatively and emotionally, but recently I’ve just started to release and return to my old self. I wanted to keep with the spiritual aspect of the song and not do too much. The remix builds in and on itself with a tribal beat, French horns, a cathedral organ, synths, and a choir to back Madonna. It’s been fantastic working with her voice ! Here is the product !”, and it shows. The care and attention put into doing the song justice is awe inspiring. From the deep groove to the powerful orchestration Adi has uplifted and reinvigorated, what is, a thirteen year old track with such love that you can’t help but be astonished and completely absorbed by it.

Chromeo & Breakbot

The next single from Chromeo’s latest LP, ‘Business Casual’ is going to be smooth-as-hell ‘When The Night Falls’, with a sweet reMix line up.

Alongside Lifelike and Hercules And Love Affair, will stand this low down Funk version of the track from Breakbot. The Frenchman does a stellar job with his track, bringing some classy Moog Funk to the table and smoothing over an already smoothest-of-the-smooth track. Do you know how smooth that makes it? I don’t even know if you’re ready for this level of smooth. Listen with caution!

Chromeo’s ‘When The Night Falls’ single is due to drop 25th July.

New track from Cosmonaut Grechko

The consistently amazing Cosmonaut Grechko has just (really, just!) dropped a new tune on his SoundCloud page.

‘?’ (not sure whether that’s a title or a lack of title) is an instrumental Cosmic DiscoPop extravaganza that both sends you to the stars and grounds you on the dancefloor. Victor once gain works his way through layers of stunning electronics grounded with a solid groove and topped with distant, floaty vocal samples. The whole track conjures up an atmosphere of chilling on the grass, looking up at the stars after an awesome night.

-Edit- Victor got in touch to drop some science on this track. It’s now actually a brand new track but a mashup/re-edit/sample fest that features a Cosmonaut Grechko instrumental with ‘Jumper’ by Capsule, the Coupons rmx of Show Your Shoe’s ‘Azur Indigo Prisma Safran Marmor’ and a few samples from Mille’s ‘Crysteena’. Which, to be honest, all went right over my head. I can definitely hear the SYS/C and Capsule now it’s been pointed out to me. What an awesome, and slick, soundclash!

Mille is back with a Foster The People reMix

I’ll say it, Mille’s ‘Crysteena’ must rank as one of my all time favourite tunes, so it’s awesome to see the Swede back with a brand new reMix of Foster The People’s ‘Call It What You Want’.

From the opening bar this is synth heaven, but I would expect no less from Mille. The man is a master of both 80’s synth sounds and modern dancefloor production, and when the two meet magic happens. This reMix is a masterclass in retro ElectroPop; soaring and shimmering synths, FM bass, electro toms, all executed with a perfect groove. Milles riffs accentuate just the right parts of the original track to up the catchiness and make the vocals suddenly really epic.

Only Children

Only Children are Chicago based collective of DJs and producers who, after a string of edits and reMixes, have just released their début artist single on Nuclear Family.

‘Don’t Stop’ is quite a stunning début. Taking New York Disco bass, intricate Indie-Electro synth work and New Order-esque vocals and washing the whole thing in a sheen of effortless Indie Disco cool, Only Children have created a summer hit that is catchy with a groove you can’t ignore. This is how 21st century ElectroPop should sound, intelligent, funky and slick, as much for the dancefloor as the headphones. Not only is the track awesome but the line up of reMix talent is pretty amazing too. Amongst the reMix package MiGHty mOUse work their magic with a smooth organ led Disco rework, Hey Champ!’s glitterball Disco reMix is ridiculously infections, and Bit Funk provide my favourite mix with a deep late night drive of a Dreamwave mix.
