“Hello Sir, can I take your order please?”, “Yeah, I’ll have a Madonna Of The Midlands™ please”, “Of course Sir, and would you like some ‘90’s Deep House with that?”, “Uuuuummmmmmmmmmm, yeah, go on then”, “Would you like that supersized?”, “Um, no, I’ll go for the minimal thanks”

Sweet Raptor Jesus we’re witty today! If you can;t tell by the absolutely hilarious first paragraph, this is a new reMix of Ronika’s radder than rad ‘Automatic’, that doesn’t appear n the single, from HyperHyper, it’s kinda’ Deep ‘90’s House, in a Minimal way. That was the exposition for those of you who couldn’t follow the plot of paragraph one. It’s got a nice late night vibe and actually highlights some nuances of Ron’s vocal performance we didn’t hear before. See, crap fast food jokes and use of the word ‘nuances’ in one post, that’s the crazy pick-n-mix that is electronic rumors!

The Penelopes’ ‘Summer Life’

The Penelopes

Here we have the brand new forthcoming single from The Penelopes. Picking up where ‘Sally In the Galaxy’ left off, ‘Summer Life’ is another breeze slice of French Pop that, frankly, doesn’t have a care in the world. It probably doesn’t even care if you like it or not, it’s having an awesome time regardless.

‘Summer Life’ does exactly what it says on the tin, this track sounds like how summer feels. Yet, you get the feeling throughout it all there is something slightly subversive going on, in a fun French way. From what we can glean from the lyrics, The Penelopes really love the summer, and really fucking hate the rest of the year. If fact, missing the summer to a Disco beat, Indie guitars and rich layers of synths is a pretty Dreamwave state of affairs, and while this track does show a lot of that LA vibe, there’s a lot of quirky European-ness in there too. An excellent combination we say!

Moonlight Matters’ ‘Come For Me’

Moonlight Matters

Wow, this week is just full of awesome late ‘80’s-esque tunes. This weeks definite highlight comes from Moonlight Matters (Seba from Villa)’s long, long awaited début single, released next month (or now on Beatport) on Kitsuné Music.

Moonlight Matters has been knocking out some of the best reMixes around for the last year or so, but despite some amazing work, we never, never, expected his début to blow us away like ‘Come For Me’ did. The EP’s title track features Gustaph from Hercules And Love Affair and is one of the biggest power Pop tracks you will hear in a while. Combining a slight bit of his Disco groove with that proper late ‘80’s sound that is starting to seep into dance music inbetween all the retro ‘80’s and ‘90’s sounding stuff. You know what I mean, epic stadium vocals, digital bass and those wonderful orchestral hits, and ‘Come For Me; has them all, and uses them perfectly. It’s a track with a tiny bit of melancholy to it, but mostly just makes you want to punch the air. Less Disco more PowerSoulPop was a brilliant move, Moonlight Matters works it perfectly. ‘Standing Up For Love’, brings down the tempo but keeps the same Electronic Soul feel with Starving Yet Full providing an impassioned vocal in a track that features the smoothest of smooth sax solos. One again Seba draws from Pop from the tail end of the ‘80’s and sucks up all the best elements for a pure TOTP experience. The final original track on the EP is ‘Rain Dance’, a lush, atmospheric, dance track. A bit tribal, this is the track that brings Moonlight Matters a bit more into the realm of ‘90’s dance, powered by crunchy stabs that play like the soundtrack to an action movie. The extended versions of the EP come with reMixes of the title track from Punks Jump Up (on the iTunes version), who deliver a twisted retro Acidic mix, Junior (on the Beatport version) ‘s glitchy Electro-House builder and Herr Styler (on the Juno version) with a deep, raw sounding, House mix with a hypnotic groove. For the title track alone it’s contender for single of the month.

iamamiwhoami’s ‘Goods’ video

The final video from Swedish Avant-Pop queen iamamiwhoami’s series of tracks from her forthcoming ‘Kin’ album is here.

All the videos together definitely make up something larger than it’s individual parts, and that’s one of the great things about iamamiwhoami, there’s always a bigger picture. ‘Good’s sees one of the most retro Pop tracks from ‘Kin’ to date accompanied with the 9th clip from this particular iamamiwhoami cycle.

‘Kin’ is released 11th June.

alloapm’s new single

alloapm

Tokyo DreamPop outfit alloapm’s new single is being released on Sunlinxx next month. It;s easily their best track to date. Malc Yacob and Amelie Mirror Adnis finally seem to have found their sound and slotted comfortable into it. This is a much more polished, much more mature record than their previous tunes, and one that finally shows off their years of experience in electronic music.

‘Gorilla Slighly’ is a complex track that sounds really simple, and that’s a genius bit of work. All the best songs are simple groves and alloapm put off making an intricately programmed, multi layered tune feel like an easy riff. Big, thick, synths and jittery percussion ride over a solid Disco beat while some heavily modulated vocals deliver a smooth flow. It’s got a pretty unique sound, whilst still fitting the beach party Disco vibe. reMixes come from labelmates Keenhouse, who turn in a deep piano house mix. Keenhouse’s mix is killer. And Rhythm Droid with a dub heavy glitchy mix. Abelard rounds off the package with the big Dreamwave mix we were all waiting for, this is the one for summer good times. That’s how to do La Disco!

Goin’ Old School: SSQ, Jean Michel Jarre & Cyndi Lauper

Goin’ Old School isn’t a trip down music memory lane, it’s a mugging in the dark alleyway of nostalgia:

The awesome pre-Stacey Q SSQ first with ‘Synthicide’ from 1983.

From 1984’s ‘Zooklook’ album, the 1985 single release of ‘Zoolookologie’ by the master Jean Michel Jarre.

Cyndi Lauper’s ‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough’ from 1984. Richard Donner directed the video. Oh shut up!

Dimitri From Paris’ Little Boots Dub

little boots

If on Monday you picked up Little Boots’ new single, ‘Headphones’, (and if you didn’t, why the hell not?) you would have been treated to two amazing reMixes. Firstly from our girl Ronika, who delivers a pitch bent grove laden jam. Secondly from Dimitri From Paris, who’s ‘80’s Disco Pop reMix is pure TOTP gold (which actually reminds us a little of Fear Of Tigers reMix of Ronika’s ‘Only Only’, our number one track of last year).

The man has just released the Dub version on his SoundCloud so you can check out the B-Boy bassline, the retro Electronic Soul beat and the big keyboard hits. All this is ties together nicely with an FM bassline running a nice groove and, of course, all the cowbells in the world. there’s even a whistle in there, what more do you need to know. Dmitri’s really channelling the poppier side of Mantronix here, and that’s awesome. You really should go buy the single for the vocal version, but for the time being, roll out your lino and stick the dub version in your boom box. You’ll be poppin’ and lockin’ in no time.

Computer Magic’s ‘Everest’

computer magic

Today seems to have been full of big dance tracks, so it is quite a relief to sit back and enjoy the sounds of one of our favourite artist, Brooklyn one girl outfit Computer Magic. She’s just dropped a new demo track on SoundCloud, and we thank her for it.

‘Everest’ is smooth and dreamy. Reverby percussion and relaxing organ’s give the track a comforting atmosphere. Like all Danz’s track it’s a stripped down, introspective sounding affair. Listening to the track you feel invited into Computer Magic’s own private world, to share in her optimism and wonder at the world. With a sparse and intimate SynthPop sound she shares with fellow Brooklyn based artist Aaron Alexis, Danz’s music isn;t going to make you rush to the dancefloor, but will certainly be your companion on long journeys or rainy days. We’re really looking forward to her next EP.

Yuksek reMixes Juveniles

Juveniles

Hot on the heels of his reMix of Stuck In The Sound’s ‘Brother’, French Yuksek continues his crawl out if hiding with this awesome version of Kitsuné Indie-Electro crew Juveniles’ new single ‘Through The Night’.

I;’ve never really, properly, clicked with Juveniles. I like them well enough, and they definitely sound like something I’d like on paper, but they’ve never really excited me that much. But from what I’ve heard of their new EP, that might be about to change. The EP contains four originals and reMixes from Pegase, Breton, and this track from Yuksek. The French Indie-electro-Disco master creates a slow building mood that, if we’re honest, gets a bit tedious during the first half. But once it kicks in…it kicks in! When the track is up and rocking it is a killer basses dancefloor destroyer. Another track I’d mark as a festival season anthem, Yuksek’s reMix isn’t so much for the packed clubs and the massive outdoor parties. Where it will blow your mind and move your feet.
