Eleven:Eleven’s ‘Little White Lies’

Eleven Eleven

Here’s another taste of Austin ElectroPop duo Eleven:Eleven’s début album, or series, or whatever, ‘Through The Veil’ which is trickling out beginning this week. ‘Little White Lies’ is, appropriately, track one in the collection and sets up what to expect nicely.

‘Little White Lies’ is a driving, powerful slice of ElectroPop that will make for impressive album opener. Rapid fire arpeggios create a nice mixture of classic SynthPop and Italo flavours in a hard hitting dancefloor package. Tempering that is Sicca’s impassioned vocals that weave in and out of the synth melody. As far as Modern SynthPop goes, Eleven:Eleven are proving themselves to be the cream of the crop with a contemporary production that sets them apart from the pack.

Shook reMixes Capital Cities

capital-cities

LA Indie-Dreamwave duo Capital Cities have become a bit of a mainstay here on electronic rumors in the last couple of years. We covered their latest single ‘Kangaroo Court’ back in March but now the EP is out it;s time to check out a reMix from one of the most musically talented Nu-Disco producers working today. Shook.

Shook channels all his ability into capturing the Funky side of Capital Cities home town. this is a huge slick of pure LA Funk and the Dutch producer works it like he was a native. this kind of pure groove is Shook at his best, it’s where his musicality is allows to shine though and it’s the reason people are lining up to work with him. The original’s upbeat Indie-Disco is reined in and told to ‘chill the fuck out’ resulting in some amazing, slick, west cost vibes. Thick Moogy basses and twisting Disco licks are the order of the day here.

‘Kangaroo Court’ is released this week on Lazy Hooks.

Queen Of Hearts & Mark Reeder

When electronic music legend and all round nice guy Mark Reeder asked me to hook him up with the future ruler of all things ElectroPop, Queen Of Hearts, I was like ”hell yeah!, that can only end well”. A man who has been instrumental in shaping electronic and dance music spanning four decades from Manchester to Berlin and a woman with a passion for electronic Pop music and a voice that could melt stone. What more can you ask for, really?

‘Mark Reeder’s Electrically Excited reMix’ of Queen Of Hearts new single ‘Neon’ is a pulsating, synthetic, floorfiller that marries Reeder’s trademark Berlin TechPop with The Queen’s husky delivery. It’s actually quite interesting to hear Queen If Hearts set amongst the cold robotic arpeggios and moody pads of Berlin Techno and Reeder perfectly finds the balance between the two, creating something robotic, but with a soul. Which, considering forthcoming double A-side the single is rife with BladeRunner references (whether accidental or not) is a pretty fitting sound. There’s a dark machine beauty to the track, and an epic cinematic quality which makes the whopping seven minutes feel like a flowing musical narrative. This is the hopefulness on rain soaked, neon lit, dystopian city streets.

Queen Of Heart’s ‘Neon’/’Tears In The Rain’ single is out 14th May, out now is ‘electronic rumors Volume 1’ on which she features.

Russ Chimes’ new single

Russ Chimes

Producer extraordinaire  Russ Chimes’ new track débuted on Pete Tong’s show last week, and we completely missed it! If you’re a long time reader of the site you’ll know how much we dig Mr. Chimes’ work, to the point where he has won numerous end of year awards. We have been awaiting eagerly his new single. So, yeah, here it is.

And it doesn’t disappoint. ‘Back 2 You’ sums up what we love about Russ’ music. He never sticks with the same sound, having made his name with big Disco tracks before branching out into more Rave oriented tunes and now gearing up for the release of this Disco tinged House track, but always carries his complex production and rich musicality into whatever he does. ‘Back 2 You’ rides on a hammering bassline, punching it’s way through the mix and providing a dancefloor trance for a whole host of elements to play over. Vocal snatches, big synth stabs, crazy percussion, even a bit of 8-bit madness are all in the mix and Russ juggles every peice of the puzzle with ease. This is how you make dance music.

Hot Hot Hawk’s new EP

hothothawk

Russian SynthWave producer Hot Hot Hawk has just released his new EP, ‘Ventilate’. Prepare for some retro soundtrack inspired synthesizer excitement.

‘Ventilate’ contains six track of post-Italo, rapid fire electronic soundtracks. Soundtracks to some kick-ass action movie from the ‘80’s that was never made. Of course, this scene is starting to get a little flooded so how does Hot Hot Hawk differentiate himself from the pack. Well, for a start he has an amazing grasp of Melody, which he weaves in and out of runaway arpeggiated basslines to spectacular effect. He also layers his tracks with sublet use of guitar, not in the crunchy way some do, but tonally, adding an extra pad or soaring solo. Another factor that sets him apart from a lot of his peers is his grasp of House and Disco, even Indie, influences he folds into his SynthWave tracks to give them that little big for Funk and groove. Overall though, Hot Hot Hawk produces some classic electronic soundtrack inspired moments, some rousing emotional peices that capture each desired mood perfectly. With an added bonus Disco round.

Saint Etienne’s new single

saint-etienne

UK ElectroPop legends Saint Etienne are gearing up for the release of their brand new album, ‘Words And Music By Saint Etienne’, next month. Ahead of which ‘I’ve Got Your Music’ follows ‘Tonight’ as the second single taken from the record.

‘I’ve Got Your Music’ seems to follow both musically and thematically from ‘Tonight’, and with a title like ‘Words And Music’ I would hazard a guess that the album will be about Pop music, and songs in general, and their power to capture a moment. As Bob Stanley says “the album is about believing in music, living your life by its rules”, The single is a lovely slice of classic SynthPop, but we would expect no less from Saint Etienne. Produced with Xenomania’s Tim Powell, it’s a effervescent, upbeat tune that bodes well for the album.

‘Words And Music By Saint Etienne’ is released 21st May.

Big C reMixes Blac Swan

Blac Swan

Fresh from his reworking of Wheel Wells ’Morning Light’ London nomad Big C has dropped another bombshell mix. this time taking on New York genre chameleons Blac Swan and their ‘Night Drive’.

In all honestly, the original version of this track is pretty lame. It’s got a nice crunchy production but it’s based around a really simplistic riff that never goes anywhere, enter Big C to sort shit out, take that riff and add it to intricate layers of melody. With a pounding rhythm, and enough elements, both gritty and sparkling, to carry the riff along to somewhere emotionally resonant and build the whole track up to it’s Drum ‘N’ Bass finale. Big C’s reMix is a strange and complicated beast, but one that would rock the dancefloor.
