Soft Metals’ new album

The first time I heard Portland duo Soft Metals I was instantly enamoured with their blend of Minimal Synth and 90’s House and Techno. Next month they finally release their début, self titled, LP.

Their highly acclaimed EP, ‘The Cold World Melts’ was a five track synth music lovers dream. Analog machine music tempered with soaring melodies and haunting vocals, and surprisingly funky too. The forthcoming album promises a full ten tracks of the same. Check out ‘Psychic Driving’ the sweet electronic ballad the record opens with.

Soft Metal’s début album is released 19th July on Captured Tracks.

Water Lilly

I’ll confess I’m new to Swiss producer Water Lilly, who has had a long and full career releasing over twenty EPs since ‘99 on labels such as Gigolo and Lasergun. Somehow she has flown under my radar, but these two tracks have really caught my attention.

This is electronic dance music at it’s purest, the funkier successor to Kraftwerk. Taken from her new album, ‘Gosshammer’, these tunes mix up Techno, Electro, ElectroPop and a little Disco groove in a package that owes much to the simple melodies of Kraftwek, 80’s SynthPop and 90’s Techno. I defy anyone who digs synthesizer music not to find something to love within these songs. Whether the melodic 80’s Techno Funk of ‘Lovebeat’ or the harder EBM-esque ‘Arpenter’, these two offerings are masterpieces, meticulously crafted by someone with a genuine love of synthesizers. That’s the way to our heart!

Goin’ Old School: Bomb The Bass – Don’t Make Me Wait

In 1988 Bomb The Bass released ‘Into The Dragon’ one of the all time seminal dance music albums, alongside ‘Beat ‘Dis’, the big hit from the record, the second single was the amazing ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’ featuring Lorraine McIntosh on vocals. A track that I will never get enough of. Here they are preforming it on Top Of The Pops. I’ll always have a soft spot for girls in hi-tops and oversized Troop jackets.

Short Circuit reMixed by Sam Padrul

We’ve already dropped the Fabian reMix of Short Circuit’s awesome ‘How We Speak’, now check out this funktastic version from Sam Padrul.

The Chicagoan producer lays on the Fuck thick on his reMix. He already had the sweet vocoder Disco of the original to work with and has taken that and run with it. The retro chords and digital slap bass are almost too much to bear playing off each other to bring whole new levels of smooth to ‘How We Speak’.

‘How We Speak’ is taken from Short Circuit’s ‘Late Night Drive’ EP, out now on Binary Entertainment.
