Trésors reMix Arnaud Rebotini

Arnaud Rebotini

Starting proceedings with a deep House flavour Trésors reMix of Arnaud Rebotini’s ‘Another Time, Another Place’ soon turns into an House/ElectroPop epic.

The French duo’s reMix for Rebotini’s forthcoming EP is at one intricate and deeply electronic and euphorically uplifting. Layers of synthesizers intertwine through meticulous production but it’s those lead synths and vocoders that will send you soaring.

Breakbot reMixed by Nico Les Tuyaux

breakbot

Nico Les Tuyaux does a bang-on job breathing new life into Breakbot’s modern classic ‘Baby I’m Yours’.

Nico drops his huge Disco sound right from the offset, keeping the song pretty much intact but heavily processing the vocals and increasing the layers of thick retro synths by a factor of a million. The track is just as Poppy as it ever was, but now ever more rooted on the dancefloor.

The first reMix from Vanbot’s reMix album.

vanbot

Swedish SynthPop royalty Vanbot has been teasing a reMix album of track from her eponymous début for a while now. Now she has unveiled the first reMix to come from the forthcoming release.

For this first outing Bremen takes on ‘Bitter Is The Sweetest Part’ abnd creates a lush slice of euphoric dance. We already know that Vanbot’s voice lends itself perfectly to big room tunes (did we mention she recently recorded some vocals for Fear Of Tigers!!!) and Bremen’s reMix shows that of to it’s fullest. The track become pure reach-for-the-lasers stuff designed to send a chill up your spine then the DJ drops it.

Neonbirds

neonbirds

Paris ElectroPop duo Neonbirds hare about to bust onto the scene with their début album and a raw sound.

‘Ignition’s Cold, Oxygen’s Pale’ is released in November and if this first track to see the light, ‘Substitutes’ is anything to go by then we’re in for a treat. The song itself is pretty Poppy, which a particularly catchy and epic chorus, but the sound is far from it. This is post-industrial noise Pop, ElectroPop with an edge. From the EBM bassline to the Justice-esque classical arrangement, this track owes as much to Skinny Puppy as it does to French ElectroPop. The combination of the Poppy and the Raw, along with a certain majestic quality bode well from Neonbirds album.

The Kids Are Radioactive’s new tune

The Kids Are Radioactive

It been a while sing we features a full on banger here, for no other reason than nothing in the past few months has really inspired me, but here come’s Binary’s resident ravemeister, The Kids Are Radioactive, to set that right.

There are two really epic sections to the track, a sequel to 2009’s ‘Perpetual Drag’, cleverly titled ‘Perpetual Drag 2’ (it’s possibly personal this time?) which nicely switch between chainsaw synth noise terror and and the lead section with a sweet euphoric chord progression, all this is underpinned with a reverby ‘90’s House piano which gives the track a different flavour from, your usual Electro-House. And of course, the thing if full of massive builds. I’m so glad that Jordan and some people can still make Electro-House tracks with a bit of imagination!

The Sound Of Arrows’ ‘Voyage’ album

The Sound Of Arrows

I’ve had a couple of weeks to listen to The Sound Of Arrows’ long-awaited début full length record, which is enough time to get over the anticipation and listen to it on face value, and y’know what? It’s better that way.

‘Voyage’ is an album that can completely stand up on it’s own, hype and reputation aside, this is eleven tracks of SynthPop of such quality you begin to understand what it took a few years to make. All the singles are here (save for ‘Danger!’), and they made the good choice of putting ‘Into The Clouds’ arguable their biggest hit, first. The track immediately reminds you of everything you love about The Sound Of Arrows, the ‘90’s indie-tinged vocals, the pumping synths and the sense of aspiration, and reminds you why you’ve been looking forward to the album for a while. Immediately following is the new single, the Balearic sounding ‘Wonders’, these two single set up the mood for the album, both musically and thematically. Musically the album is, mostly, euphoric stuff. Big major riffs and uplifting beats are the LP’s staples. There are a few downtempo tracks, such as ‘Hurting All The Way’ and ‘Ruins Of Rome’, but even they are shot through with an air of hopefulness rather than melancholy. Which brings me to the strain running through the album thematically. ‘Voyage’ is a manifesto of wonderment, a collection of songs that scream out their hope that the world can be a better place. The album dreams of adult problems seen through the eyes of childhood wonder, stripped down to their basic ridiculousness in a metaphor of magical discovery, culminating in ‘There Is Still Hope’ while the albums exit, ‘Lost City’ is a epic cinematic finale.

I suppose I better find some criticism to make of ‘Voyage….the single’s ‘Nova’ and ‘Wonders’ can get a bit too early 2000’s Ibiza for my tastes these days, whilst they are excellent songs the sounds are a little dated, but that’s it. On the whole album all I could find fault with is two lead synth sounds. If you’re a fan of SynthPop or ElectroPop the The Sound Of Arrows’ ‘Voyage’ is one of the top releases of the year, or the last few years, and set to be an electronic Pop classic with ease.

Goldroom reMixes Gigamesh

gigamesh2

I’ve been dying to post this for a couple of weeks and now I finally can. Here’s Goldroom‘s masterful reMix of Gigamesh’s ‘Red Light’.

Premiered on The Magicians’ ‘Magic Tape Sixteen’ , Josh Legg’s reMix can only be described as ‘a treat for the ears’. This track is the aural equivalent of sitting on a rooftop, overlooking the city, watching the sun go down, an end to the day and the slow beginnings of the night. I would have said ‘sitting on a beach’ but there is something slightly urban about the track, I think it’s the rolling ‘80’s bass gives it a hot city nights feel while the dreamy synth work bring to mind that point at dusk when anything is possible. We’ve really dug all of Josh’s  Goldroom work so far, but he has really nailed it this time!
