Sunday Girl’s ‘Self Control’

Jade Williams A.K.A. Sunday Girl’s second single will be a cover of Laura Branigan’s 1984 hit ‘Self Control’. For a well covered track, Sunday Girl doesn’t do a bad job of making it her own, haunting and slightly otherworldly, and the Acid bassline is a nice touch too.

I predict we may be seeing a lot more reMixes of this track in the months to come. Right now we have this pretty awesome upbeat ElectroPop reMix from Popmeisters Snapd who just highlight the 80’s-ness of the tune. Azari & III, on the other hand, go deep and dark with their 3am reMix.

‘Sunday Girl’ is out 2nd August with more reMixes from Young Empires, Fenech-Soler.

Jump Jump Dance Dance – Modern Eyes

‘Modern Eyes’ is the latest single from LA Indie-Electro duo Jump Jump Dance Dance, it’s a catchy, glitchy guitar track that goes well 80’s in the chorus.

Check the clip directed by Clemens Habicht.

There’s some nice reMixes floating around, each with it’s own dancey take on the tune. Beni brings an almost Fidget style to his Electro reMix while Bit Funk turn in (probably) our favourite of the mixes, it’s a smooth Nu-Disco, organ fuelled, floorfiller. Vindata’s mix also has a place in our harts, all 80’s arpeggios and vocoders, what’s not to love?

Victoria & Jacob

I stated on both Twitter and Facebook that I couldn’t be bothered to blog today ‘cos I had too much to do, my band is playing at a festival 5 hours away so I have to pack and stuff, and have too much to do in the real world.

Then an email lands in the electronic rumors Inbox. I almost didn’t read it, but I did. The music sounded interesting so I clicked the MySpace link only to find there was no music there. At this point I almost gave up, I have a bunch of synths and keyboard stands to dismantle and pack, but somehow I found my way to the band’s SoundCloud.

And, man, am I glad I did.

Victoria & Jacob are a Lo-Fi Indie-Electro/ElectroPop act from London who’s intimate toytown synth sound is slightly akin to BedroomPop but made grander by Victoria’s vocals soaring optimistically over the somewhat melancholy music. the immediate comparison in my head is to Venus Hum, but with more Englishness and less god.

The band are gearing up for the release of their second single (after a couple of self-released EPs), ‘Nighttime’, which promises to be more up tempo, we’ll bring you more on that when we can, until then do your self a favour and check out the duo’s last single ‘With No Certainty’, which is possibly the most beautiful piece of music I have heard all year.

♫ Victoria & Jacob – With No Certainty

One of the reMixes for the single is by electronic rumors favourite Bright Light Bright Light (who’s just been snapped up by PopJustice’s new label, nice one!) who produces an epic slice of Pop.

♫ Victoria & Jacob – With No Certainty (Bright Light Bright Light Uncertain reMix)

Zaflon bring the track to the dancefloor with their kick heavy reMix.

Walter Sobcek

We’ve featured a couple of Walter Sobcek’s reMixes recently, for NightWaves and Housse De Racket, so when they stopped by the electronic rumors Inbox with a preview of their forthcoming EP we were eager to listen.

Hailing from Paris and Berlin this duo make some slick retro sounding SynthPop which is perfectly exemplified by their vocoder laden cover of Hall & Oats’ ‘She’s Gone’, a smooth as hell chilled summer jam.

Walter Sobcek – She’s Gone (Hall & Oates Cover)

To celebrate the the track Walter Sobcek have put together this video which, in their own words, is a ‘tribute to Jennifer Connelly and Rollerskating’ (luckily it’s hot late 80’s/early 90’s Jennifer Connelly, not 00’s anorexic Jennifer Connelly). The video is made up of clips from John Hughes’ 1991 movie ‘Career Opportunities’ and works so well with the song!

Walter Sobcek release a single last year you can still pick up and are looking to release their new EP in September.

OMD’s new single; ‘If You Want It’

OMD04

What do we have here? It’s only a preview of Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark’s forthcoming single, ‘If You Want It’!

The first single from their first studio album in 14 years, ‘The History Of Modern’, the track is sounding very classic OMD. Stripped down and synthesized is the way we like our OMD and ‘If You Want It’ sounds like it won’t disappoint.

The ‘If You Want It’ single is released 6th September with ‘The History Of Modern’ slated to be released later this year.

More new LexiconDon!

A couple of weeks ago we dropped a preview track from LA SynthPoppers LexiconDon’s forthcoming début long player. The track, ‘December Sunset’ has been on rotation here ever since and has us dying with anticipation for the album to be released. An evolution from their rabble rousing Electro everyman-call-to-arms into something a lot smoother and heartfelt, the track has captured out imaginations.

While we haven’t got another new track for you today, what we do have is a reMix of ‘December Sunset’ by Canadian producer U-Tern. And what a reMix it is! That FM synth bassline is so infections that if it doesn’t get you moving your probably in a coma, or dead and the nurses haven’t noticed! And just when you think you’re full, and the huge synth stabs are still ringing round your head…enter slap bass solo!

LexiconDon – December Sunset (U-Tern reMix)

Have a refresher of the original version while you’re here!

If you’re fans of Binary records and that sweet LA SynthPop sound then keep it locked to electronic rumors in the coming weeks, we have a pretty special Binary even planned for y’all!

LexiconDon’s album, ‘Pink + Blue’ is due to drop 24th August on dubFrequency/Binary.

Wave Machines

Wave Machines are an Indie-Electro outfit from Liverpool with an eclectic sound. Sounding a little like a collision between a more guitar driven Clock Opera and the Bee-Gees the four piece are releasing a new Digital EP, along with various vinyl bundles.

The EP has some nice tracks on it but the standout has to be this reMix of ‘Keep The Lights On’ by UK reMixers Artwork. The reMix takes the vocals to where they were meant to be with a smooth cosmic Disco groove and a real analog feel.

Gary Numan plays ‘Cars’ on cars

Car battery makers DieHard have roped in Mr. Gary Numan to pimp out their latest line of batteries.

In this commercial one battery powers 24 cars, 2 keyboards and 1 Gary Numan in a rendition of his classic 1979 tune ‘Cars’.

Directed by James Frost of Zoo Films, there was a bit of controversy over whether it was car horns or .mp3 recordings of car horns being played but Adam Sadowsky, President of Synn Labs, who put together the 96 wheeled keyboard stated: “We absolutely used horns to play the notes live. We couldn’t use the horns in that came in the cars because they weren’t tuned properly, so we tuned our own and put them into the car’s engine compartments.”

So, there you go.

MMMatthias’ new EP

After the awesome ‘James’ EP German Electro-House producer MMMatthias is ready to drop his second offering on FutureFlashs’ label Kiez Beatz.

The ‘Lies’ EP continues MMMatthias tradition of retro synthed floorfillers with a  reMix package that includes the likes of Distrakt, La Tourette, ampersand and this reMix from Spanish Dim Mak guy IKKI who amps up the bangerness (is that a word?) with some massive, in-your-face, synths.

‘Lies’ drops at Beatport on 16th July and elsewhere on the 30th.

Maybe you can hire MSTRKRFT…

MSTRKRFT reMixing The A-Team theme tune.

What more can you say?

It’s awesome! Big distorted synths hammer out Mike Post & Peter Carpenter’s original, totally unmistakable theme. This is dirty Electro-House with added nostalgic fun, and it will completely destroy any dancefloor!
