[MP3] Baron Von Luxxury edits Madonna’s ‘Vogue’

Madonna

Put together using “only bits from the original multitrack stems” LA DiscoPop genius Baron Von Luxxury has put together an epic, dancefloor targeted edit of Madonna’s classic 1990 ode to the Harlem gay House scene, Vogue. And it is pretty stunning.

If you’ve ever heard Vogue and thought ‘man, that’s a good groove’ then this tune is for you. Stretching that instantly recognisable House hook out into a six minute dancefloor trip, Luxxury drops fresh beats, and vocal snatches over the deep Chicago-esque hook. The vocals are, for the most part, modulated to fit the new vibe and the whole track ends up a storming deep retro House tune that would slot perfectly into and cotemporary House set. [Audio] Icona Pop’s ‘All Night’

icona pop

Swedish ElectroPop duo Icona Pop have, in a very shot time, gone from being relegated to smaller blogs dealing with ElectroPop to being massive superstars. I Love It and Girlfriend blew up big time, and deservedly so, the girls deliver big room commercial House sounds mixed with rowdy, shouty, EelctroPop that makes for an explosive and infectious combination.

Their new tune, All Night doesn’t stray to far from the formula, competing big beats, chainsaw synths and hollered, anthemic vocals that are easy to catch. Icona Pop are something truly different in the world of Pop, and maybe the kick in the ass it needs. I can’t think of anyone around at the moment who can balance this kind of in-you-face Pop with Indie cool, but these girls do so effortlessly.

[Audio] Annie’s ‘Invisible’

Annie

It’s another new track from Annie and Richard X’s forthcoming A&R EP. Following Back Together and Hold On this right here is the third taste of what to expect we’ve had so far. It;s also the hardest, and darkest entry in the EP so far, and the most in-your-face early 90s too. The track’s called Invisible, but it’s aggressive dancefloor stylings are anything but.

Right from the offset, Invisible is full-on Acid Rave. Breakbeat style TR-909 drum patterns, twisted TB-303 riffs, distorted Rave organs, this is pure white glove warehouse material. Add to this Annie offering a husky, deadpan vocal delivery, at times pitched down to gender bending extremes, and you have a track that captures the excitement of the early Rave culture whist still serving up something that Annie makes her own. So looking forward to this EP.

[MP3] Zimmer reMixes Rod Stewart’s ‘Da’ Ya’ Think I’m Sexy?’

Rod-Stewart

Let’s send you into your weekend with something a little funky and a little fun. One of out favourite French producers, Zimmer, the master of horizontal Disco, has seen fit to deliver a stomping rework of Rod Stewart’s 1978 cheesefest Da’ Ya’ Think I’m Sexy?.

Not to sure what to say about this really, you’ll either love it or hate it. Zimmer whips up a pumping bassline and a killer beat to add to this monster. A sweet amount of Cosmic Disco synth warbling is along for the ride too, but your opinion of this track will still rest on whether you are amused by the tracks instantly recognisable riff and Stewart’s cringe-worthy vocals, or depressed by them. We definitely fall into the amused camp, put a smile of your face this weekend.

[Audio] Earl Grey reMixes Clique Talk’s ‘Uncomfortable’

Clique Talk

Here we have the latest slice of reMix gold from Danny Ashenden, A.K.A. Earl Grey A.K.A. one half of The C90s. Earl Grey has been serving up some of the more ecclectic synthesizer Disco in recent months and in one of his many reMixes due to see the light of day this month he tackles Chicago ElectroPop duo Clique Talk’s forthcoming single Uncomfortable.

Keeping things in a vintage SynthPop groove, Earl Grey mashes in a Dubby Disco and House foundation amongst all the piecing snyths to create something both Cosmic and down-to-earth. Dark and bass sounds playing up against dreamlike flourishes plays well with the half-diva/half-post-punk vocal style creating an all round late 70s/early 80s feel to this reMix. Not without it;s bright lead lines and energetic high points, this reMix mostly rests on it’s ability to deliver something fantastical and futuristic while keeping the dancefloor moving.

[MP3] Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Vocal’ reMixed by Jack And Joy

Pet Shop Boys

Pet Shop Boys ode to vocal dance music, Vocal, taken from their excellent Electric album get’s a full-on, nine track, reMix CD treatment at the end of this month. Nine version is a pretty chock-full package but there’s still more. Not included on the CD, but definitely worthy of your attention, is this version from Italian Housemeisters Jack And Joy.

Jack And Joy play up to the track’s motif and deliver a classic dance mix. In fact, heard blind, you’d be hard pressed to pinpoint a year or even genre for this one. There’s elements of Chicago House, Balearic vibes, 90s extended 12” mix styles and a big Trance build to accompany the Pop House piano hook. These kinds of timeless reMixes allow Pet Shop Boys to shine at their best a Neil Tennant’s vocal is left largely intact (apart from some late 80s sampling techniques) to bring it;s full emotional content to the dancefloor.

[Audio] TEED reMixes Disclosure’s ‘F For You’

Disclosure

Deep festival House vibes right here. It’s been a while since we featured anything from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, but he’s just dropped this absolutely intoxicating reMix of F For You, taken from Disclosure number one album Settle. F For You will be Disclosure’s next single and it’ll be getting a loaded reMix package, of with this TEED mix is but one.

This is pure enigmatic summer House, soulful and bassy. It’s a moody and dark tune, but one that never feels oppressive. It’s ominous in tone, but shot through with optimistic melodies and a mesmerising House groove that you could dance to for hours. The heavy, heavy, bassline, alongside the shuffling House beat, this track hold perfectly pins everything together, making the track compelling and funky and allowing the eerier elements to make the tune interesting without overpowering it.
