Big History

bighistory

Graphic Designer & SynthPop producer Japayork has given us the heads up about a new project he’s managing, Big History, and the track he sent over is storming.

This New Orleans based six piece create live sounding ElectroPop with an emphasis on song. Vocalist Meg Roussel croons her way through a deeply personal and intimate song, all husky and intense while the other five (six peice? I don’t even want to imagine what the band arguments are like!) craft a melodic and muli-layered ElectroPop sound which is, well, as intricate as you’d expect with six people involved. ‘Wardrum’ is a seriously impressive début with the potential to excite both dancefloors and headphones alike, whether you like your ElectroPop with your hands in the air at 3am or lying on your bed with the curtains drawn, Big History fits the bill.

New track from Casiokids

casiokids

Casiokids, those Norwegian Analog SynthPop kooks have announced the release of their sophomore record, titled ‘Aabenbaringen Over Aaskammen’ (in English ‘The Revelation Over The Mountain’) later this year.

‘Det Haster!’ will be the lead single from the 10 track LP, and give us a taste of what to expect. Casiokids merging of their experimental side and their fun, Pop, side shines through in ‘Det Haster!’ as the live drumming and the obvious joy the band take in wigging out on analog synths is focused into a cute little melody and bouncy groove.

‘Aabenbaringen Over Aaskammen’ will be released 11th October on Polyvinyl.

The Twelves’ ‘Kitsuné Tabloid’

‘Kitsuné Tabloid By The Twelves’ is, unsurprisingly the new Tabloid artist mixtape from Kitsuné Music, it’s  (also unsurprisingly) been put together by The Twelves.

We’ve heard it, it’s pretty special.

Here is a 40 second video teaser, which is the most pointless thing in the world, but it’s all you’ve got for now. Don’t let the pointlessness of the video put you off getting excited for the album.

The Twelves’ ‘Kitsuné Tabloid’ album drops 29th August. Stay tuned.

AlunaGeorge reMix Baby Monster

babymonster

We’ve not heard enough from AlunaGeorge recently, but Baby Monster new single ‘The Fear Of Charlie Sunrise’ is the perfect track for them to reMix.

Doing that thing they do where the make thing experimental, yet melodic. Deep and dubby, yet bright and poppy, AlunaGeorge create a richly textured soundscape that showers you with snatches of vocal and waves of lush synths.

Aimes début album

aimes

Following on from Brooklyn based producer Aimes’ single ‘Every Time When I See You’ comes his just released début album.

‘Your Floor Is Now A Tree’ is a raw album, by which I mean it’s electronic, but doesn’t sound sequenced and quantized. It feels like it is being played live on every listen. There’s an excitement and energy that comes with that feeling that suits Aimes, Chillwave, Dreamwave, DiscoPop, Indie-Electro crossover perfectly. A deeply introspective album, both musically and vocally, Aimes conveys a subdued emotional resonance in every song, through chord progression and narrative. You can tell the album is very personal to him. And hey, there’s stuff to dance to here too!

a&r’s new track

a&r

Brooklyn duo a&r recently dropped a new track on their SoundCloud page, and it’s a stormer.

‘Perfect Thieves’ is just the kind of top quality, emotional, ElectroPop we’ve come to expect from these two. This is big, 80’s chords, SynthPop but with an Indie sensibility and one foot squarely on the dancefloor. The vocal style and dreamy synth sounds make me think of a slightly more gangly guitar infused Monarchy with this tune,

Sykur

Sykur

Sykur are a new Icelandic trio who are gearing up for a September release of their début UK single, ‘Shed Those Tears’.

There’s loads of early 80’s SynthPop in ‘Shed These Tears’, there almost a Soft Cell quality to the tune, but with a nice raw contemporary Electro production style. The trio of Halldór, Stefán and Kristján already  are well respected on the Reykjavik Electro scene, and the respect is well deserved, their music portrays a skill, maturity and tradition well beyond their years. The single will be backed with reMixes from the crazy FM Belfast, who cut and splice the track to give it a slightly more dancefloor vibe and DJ Kris Di Angelis who takes the track straight into Deep House territory as he gets proggy with it.

Dirty Vegas Vs. Penguin Prison

dirty_vegas_group

Just out is Dirty Vegas’ ‘Little White Doves’ single from their recent ‘Electric Love’ album. We already dropped the Visitor reMix a while back and alongside that and tracks from Nightriders, Blonde Rocka and Ladytron, Indie-ElectroPopper Penguin Prison contributes to the package.

PP goes all epic 80’s soundtrack rock meets deep House tune for his take on the tune. The anthemic vocals and rousing retro sound counterpointed with low down Acid burbling and a hypnotic groove. Dirty Vegas have returned the favour by contributing to the (now massive) collection of reMixes of Penguin Prison’s ‘Fair Warning’ who work their sunrise House magic on the song with a nice subtle Balearic feel to it.
