Don’t Wait Animate reMixes

DontWaitAnimate

We posted about Don’t Wait Animate a while back, their post-Nu-Rave Indie-Dub-Electro thing is pretty unique. A jagged inner city mash-up of styles and influences.

The London 5 piece have dropped by the electronic rumors Inbox to big up a couple of reMixes of their début single, ‘6174’. The Dirty Disco deliver something special, completely deconstructing the track and building it back up into a dancefloor ElectroPop smash with some heavy heavy beats and more than a couple of nods to Dubstep as does Coin Operated Boy’s 8-bit noise rave.

Thieves Like Us’ new single

ThievesLikeUs02

This week sees the release of Thieves Like Us’ latest offering, the ‘Forget Me Not’ single. This will be the second taste, after the ‘leaked’ track ‘Never Known Love’, of their forthcoming new album ‘Again And Again’

To get you in the mood for the new single try checking out these two remixes, including one by Gomma artiste Cecile who’s dancefloor beats betray the haunting nature of the reMix and the Second Date mix, which is my favourite so far, with a nice modern-retro feel to it. Full of arpeggios and 80’s synth chords without ruining the melancholic nature of the original.

New Alice In Videoland single! Spaceship

AliceInVideoland03

Long-time readers of electronic rumors should be no strangers to Swedish ElectroPunk outfit Alice In Videoland (they even made our top 20 tracks of 2009!), they are one band we can’t help but get enthusiastic about.

Some exiting news, then, coming out of AiV HQ, the guys are finalizing the recording of new material and are gearing up for the release of a brand new single!

‘Spaceship’ is one of the most commercial tracks to come out of the AiV camp (despite the lyrical content), but that’s no bad thing. Pushing their raw ElectroPunk sound into territories verging on Electro-House and Pop, the single is like Lady GaGa or Goldfrapp run through a distortion pedal. Catchy as hell (something a little bit lacking from their last album) with an infections riff ‘Spaceship’ reminds you of just how in-your-face electronic music, and even Pop, can be in the right hands.

Alice In Videoland have been kind enough to allow me to share the track with you lot:

A definite welcome return for Alice’s Electro-Pop-Punk soundclash.

The ‘Spaceship’ single is released 21st April on Wonderland Records.

Hooray For Earth

HoorayForEarth

My initial impression of New York act Hooray For Earth was ‘Folktronica’, and while I think there is still a measure of that in the mix, after listening to the whole of their forthcoming EP I can see there is more to the band.

The EP, titled ‘Momo’ is a, generally, upbeat collection of songs that are often huge, powerful Indie-electro tunes, with an extra helping of bombast, masquerading as quaint Electro Folksy tracks. It’s a Lo-Fi sound full of buzzing analog synths and heartfelt vocals, and I think that’s what’s appealing about it, despite the epicness of some of the tracks it still sounds pretty DIY.

This track, ‘Surrounded By Friends’, will probably draw obvious comparisons to the likes of Passion Pit, but defiantly has an identity of it’s own.

I’m still gonna’ go with Folktronica, but that’s just me being lazy!

The ‘Momo’ EP is released 1st June.

Dubstar reunite for Buffetlibre/Amnesty International ‘PEACE’ project.

peace02

As part of electronic rumors continuing support for Buffetlibre DJs’ and Amnesty International’s ‘PEACE’ project, we are pleased to be able to announce that the album is now available! Described by the Buffetlibre guys as a ‘musical atlas’ the record features over 150 brand new songs by artists from over 50 countries, including some big names that will be of interest to our readers, such as: The Antlers, frYers, Gooseflesh, Jori Hulkkonen, Kissogram, Marc Almond, Marsheaux, Micro, The Neon Judgement, Patrick Wolf, The Toxic Avenger, Kid606, The Ultrasonics, Operator Please, You Love Her Coz She’s Dead, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tesla Boy, 4hero, ASCII.Disko and Avian X…just to name a few!

Of particular interest is a brand new track by Dubstar! It seems Sarah Blackwood and the guys have put their differences aside for this good cause and recorded a cover version of Passions’ ‘I’m In Love With A German Film Star’. 2008 was the last time we had the possibility of Sarah taking time out from the wonderful Client to record new Dubstar material but things turned a little sour. If a reason to shake hands and make music was needed, then drawing attention to human rights abuses worldwide seems like a very good one.

The Buffetlibre guys have very kindly allowed electronic rumors to exclusively share this track with you lot.

It’s a lot more post-punky, shoegazey even, than I had expected, but a track the washes over you and carries you away with it. The instrumentation and vocals swirl around each other and swell toward the finale. It’s nice, as well, to hear Sarah singing in her ‘Dubstar’ voice (as opposed to her ‘Client’ voice) again, it reminds me of the early 90’s so much I can’t help but smile.

Dubstar – I’m In Love With A German Film Star (zShare) (MediaFire)

Does this mean a future for Dubstar? Who can tell.

You can choose to pay between €5 and €25 for the album, which for 180 tracks and artwork is a cracking deal, and the collected money will be used for Amnesty International’s investigation and action campaigns aimed at preventing cases of Human Rights abuses around the world.

Fantastic cause, Fantastic album, just listen to the stream here.

‘PEACE’ is out right now, head on over to Buffetlibre’s site to grab a copy and make your donations!

Hot Chip cover Shakira’s She Wolf

HotChip04

Hot Chip are on the covers tip again! The band recently covered Shakira’s ‘She Wolf’ for Jo Whiley’s Radio 1 show.

I love the fact that Hot Chip perform so many covers, not only does it produce some wicked output but it also show how passionate the guys are about music, not just their own.

So, yes, it is a bit funny and it is a bit of a novelty…but it is also actually a really good track, some nice riffs and some of the best vocoding I have heard in a while! I wonder what the band are planning to cover next?

Dragonette feature with Kaskade

Kaskade

Indie-Electro outfit Dragonette are featured on the second single from Chicago DJ Kaskade’s second single from his forthcoming ‘Dynasty’ album.

Dragonette stamp their own Indie-Electro style all over this track by the club producer resulting in an Indie-House-Pop mash up which has more than enough of Dragonette’s guitars and vocal style to elevate it above your standard vocal House collaboration.

Two Door Cinema Club Vs. The Twelves

TwoDoorCinemaClub03

26th April in nearly upon us, that’s when the latest volume of Kitsuné Music’s Maison series is released. Maison 9, ‘The Petit Bateau Edition Or The Cotton Issue’, amongst a who host of shockingly good artists, some new, some welcome returns, features The Twelves reMix of Two Door Cinema Club’s forthcoming single ‘Something Good Can Work’.

The Twelves bring their customary Nu-Disco flavour to the Indie tune. It’s a really good song and this reMix is right up my street, toning down the guitars and turning up the synths!

Adam Kesher return

AdamKersher

French Nu-Rave (?) band Adam Kesher (a band not a person) have some success in 2007 with their ‘Modern Times’ and are back with a more mature sound.

A sound that they have roped in some help shaping. None other than Chromeo’s Dave One produced this joint with mixing skills from his brother A-Trak with Phillipe Zdar and Pierrick Devin. it’s a mixing pot that produces some really slick Indie-Electro that still kinda’ keeps Adam Kesher’s sound.

Bodi Bill & Siriusmo

BodiBill

I’d honestly never heard of Bodi Bill before their current single, ‘I Like Holden Caulfield’, landed in the electronic rumors inbox, but I was immediately all over it.

This German act is hard to pin down, a bit Lo-Fi, a bit Indie-Electro, a bit Bedroom Pop, even a little bit Folktronica, they have defiantly carved out a unique niche for themselves in the SynthPop landscape. Their glitchy beats and eclectic electronic instrumentation really keep the listener on their toes!

Siriusmo, who should be no stranger to you, provides a reMix of the track ‘Tip Toe Walk’ for the single and turns in a deep and atmospheric mix complete with buzzing organs, echoing piano and military drums.
