[Download] Ride The Universe reMix Belle & Sebastian’s ‘Party Line’

Dreamwave superheroes Ride The Universe are back in the game with this stormingly groovy new reMix. The LA/Frankfurt trans-Atlantic coalition of the funky have been quite quiet of late but hopefully this new cut will see a return to activity. They’ve chosen to insert themselves back into your consciousness with a reMix of Belle & Sebastian’s Party Line. chosen to We’re not exactly fans of Belle & Sebastian here, so we’re not familiar with the original, but Ride The Universe turn in a bass fuelled Disco juggernaut right here.

If you’re familiar with Ride The Universe’s powerhouse Disco sound then you know what you’re in for right here. These guys produce big, with a rich and thick production style that can often make their contemporaries seem lightweight in comparison. They bring it on this reMix in full effect. The synth bass growls and bounces it’s way through the track with an accompaniment of shrieking synths and wicked little licks. It’s utterly infectious stuff that will have any dancefloor rockin’.

[Audio] Waze & Odyssey reMix The New Sins’ ‘Lights Down’

The New Sins are a London based outfit comprised of New Young Pony Club’s Lou Hayter and composer Nick Phillips. They released their single Lights Down in summer 2014, a burbling House groover that has now been given a new lease of life by a couple of the most consistently quality producers around; Waze & Odyssey. Lights Down is due for a re-release, with a loaded reMix package, at the end of this month on Defected.

From the first bar this tune is an infectious jackin’ House tune. Riding a skippy warehouse beat, Waze & Odyssey deliver deep style basslines and euphoric lead synths. All accompanied by snatches of the originals vocals repeated to mantra effect, the tune is definitely one to keep the dancefloor moving. The sweeping breakdown is the icing on the cake; there’s no stopping this one.

Here’s a big new tune from Manchester producer Sam O’Neill A.K.A. TCTS and featuring Mr. Leo Kalyan on vocal duties. Thinking About You is a huge and emotive House track that’s catchy as hell and bound to be doing the business this summer.

[Download] Gypsy And The Cat’s ‘Lost Control’

We weren’t sure that Melbourne based Indie-ElectroPop trio Gypsy And The Cat were still active, but this week they dropped a surprise new single that proves unequivocally that they certainly still are. The band first came to our attention back in 2010 with one of the high points of that summer being their single Jona Vark. This new tune, Lost Control is a departure from that summery Indie-Electro sound. Check out what they’ve been up to.

This time around Gypsy And The Cat are all about the exuberant Electro-House. Kicking off like an early Justice record, these guys rock the growling synths and Disco grooves setup so prevalent in France’s early 2000’s output. The put their own mark on the sound, though, with their own Indie-Electro sound, particularly in the vocal arena. It’s a totally unexpected release for a variety of reasons and definitely have us interested to hear more from this iteration of Gypsy And The Cat.

[Audio] Airwolf’s ‘Lose The Lazy’

Airwolf is one of those artists that drift in and out of our consciousness. We tend to forget about him when he’s not abut but were always excited to see a new Airwolf track crop up. This tune, Lose The Lazy, is his new single; due out later this month. Featuring vocals from Stahsi (is that pronounced Stasi? Like the East German secret police?), this one contains some huge sounds.

Lose The Lazy is a pretty carefree summery dance track. Leaning in the general direction of House, the track has a quirky Pop flavour, thanks mostly to Stahsi’s fun vocals, which bounce along the tune as Airwolf delivers some big room, or big field, synths and pounding drums with a classic hands-in-the-air breakdown. This one is perfectly crafted for good times. Enjoy.

[Audio] Marina And The Diamonds’ ‘FROOT’ reMixed by St. Lucia

FROOT was the first single released from Marina And The Diamonds’ forthcoming third studio album, and an amazing return to form for one of our favourite singer/songwriters. It was released October last year but is getting a new lease of life in the form of this storming new reMix from Brooklyn’s breezy ElectroPop exponent; St. Lucia.

St. Lucia’s reMix was worth the wait, the man morphs the massive Pop epic into a quirky but imposing floor-filler. Building upon the foundations of a House beat and machine bass, St. Lucia avoids falling into the obvious trap of producing a big commercial dance track but putting Marina’s eclectic vocal from and centre amongst swirling synths. Not hint of a trance lead anywhere, instead we find catchy SynthPop hooks. Good job St. Lucia!

The storming Kate Boy’s tune Higher, their massive live anthem, has finally been released as part of the compilation Kate Boy EP. The track’s also got itself and official video. Peep this.

Directed by Ben Strebel, the emotional clip is a cold palette washed, Scandinavian Sci-Fi mini-movie. It’s very cool stuff.

[Audio] Techniques reMixes Michael Jackson’s ‘Smooth Criminal’

Have you checked out the new single from Manchester’s electronic adventurer Techniques yet? Don’t You Want To Love’s enigmatic, dark, grooves caused a bit of a stir when recently released and the Manc producer is already working on the eagerly awaited follow up. In the meantime check out this epic reMix of Michael Jackson’s 1988 hit, Smooth Criminal.

Kicking things off in low key and moody fashion, Techniques introduces us to a low-slung bassline and stuttering Techno beats to pair with Jackson’s vocals, here turned into some kind of hypnotic mantra. A cinematic journey through the world of Tech and Deep House, this reMix retains the drama of the original song, but drags it onto some futuristic Sci-Fi dancefloor where Jacko is fighting off an android invasion. Mesmerising stuff.

[Audio] Todd Terje’s ‘Inspector Norse’ reMixed by Justin Van Der Volgen

If there’s any dance track of recent years that can genuinely be called a ‘classic’ already, it’s probably Norwegian Cosmic Disco kind Todd Terje’s instantly recognisable Inspector Norse. Despite being a couple of years old now you can still hear it played out now, and come festival season are bound to hear it a lot more. Terje himself commissioned a couple of reMixes from ex-!!! man Justin Van Der Volgen, including this version of Inspector Norse. This and Van Der Volgen’s take on Strandbar are available on 12” now.

Making Inspector Norse your own, while retaining the qualities that make it so loves, must be no mean feat; but Van Der Volgen has a good old crack at it. He wisely let’s himself be indulgent with the percussion without trying to replace the instantly recognisable synths too much. Giving us teases of the tracks hook here and there amongst it’s off-beat keys. The track is ten minutes long, and in that time seems to build and build and build on the back of screaming synth sweeps until the seven minute mark where it explodes into it’s own galactic version of the originals hook. It’s an odd beats, but an enjoyable one nonetheless.

The latest release on Pole Jam Vinyl, the awesome physical label from the fine folks at Pole Position Recordings and Glam Jam Artists, comes in the form of another groove packed compilation. This one features the talents of Cassara, Darko Kustura, and Benny & Gain, collectively titled the Lady Leopard EP. This one is our favourite on the record, coming from London production duo Benny & Gain, this is Approval.

The most laid back tune of the release, Approval is an enchanting five minute synthesizer odyssey. Sunrise Disco vibes with a carefree, hypnotic groove you can get lost in, Approval gently invites you to walk with it’s chilled Disco beats, lazy House keys and starshine lead lines. One for late nights or early mornings; Benny & Gain have delivered a slice of dance music bliss.
