[Video] Leo Kalyan’s ‘Get Your Love’

Leo Kalyan Get Your Love YouTube

Future R&B wrangler Leo Kalyan’s Get Your Love is his first track to make it to the screen, and a good choice for his début video it is too. A catchy, and Leo’s most accessible, tune that lend it’s soulful ElectroPop style well to video form.

Director Jim Barber heaps on the sumptuous visuals as he takes Leo on a road trip around southern France. Looks like fun. Thankfully they have nice weather. Check it out.

Leo Kalyan

Is Get Your Love the most straight-up SynthPoppy think that Leo Kalyan has ever done? Very possibly. The Londoner has been slowly gaining traction with his R&B infused Pop track that have run the gauntlet of the slickest current styles from PopDeepHouse to FutureSoulDisco and every three word compound genre in-between. At it’s core, though, Leo’s tunes are smooth and soulful Pop songs that are as much for the heart as they are for the feet.

We were first introduced to Leo Kalyan way back in 2013 when our favourite ever PR person said “you have to hear my neighbour’s music” while drunk. Which is an odd bit of promotion, but it turns out we did have to hear their neighbours music, ‘cos it was very good and we’ve been following him ever since. It was actually a while, full of reMixes and mixtapes, before his first proper release; the Silver Linings EP in July this year, but now it seems tracks are coming thick and fast. Hot on the heels of said EP Leo is keeping the momentum going with Get Your Love.

The new single is out at the end of next month, which may be a little too close to to the tail end of the summer for a song who’s first line is “Summertime heaven…” but with it’s laid back sound and carefree vocals maybe, just maybe, it can keep the sunshine feeling going a little while longer.

So, yeah, Get Your Love is less R&B and more pure Pop than Leo’s previous offerings. Don’t get us wrong, the tune definitely has a soulful swing to it, but the toasty synths and solid 4/4 beat  make it the most accessible track he’s released to date. The catchy and upbeat chorus doesn’t hurt either when it comes to a certain sing-a-long quality Get Your Love has. Leo lays out the tale of a youthful summer day and night with his love interest to a soundtrack of relaxed keys that are dragged along by shuffling hi-hats and a strong bassline. We could quite easily imagine Get Your Love getting a bit of radio play. And it it did happen to come on the radio, while the sun was shining; well that would be just fine with us.

Leo Kalyan

London based Future R&B noodler Leo Kalyan is gearing up for the release of his début proper EP later this month. After a string of well received singles and the Stranger mixtape Leo is ready for his première label release on Believe Records, to be titled Silver Linings. Both Annie Mac and Mista Jam have supported his tunes on Radio1 as we are sure they will this new one. It’s called Fingertips; check it out.

Kalyan weaves a laid back, almost Tropical, breezyness into his sound on Fingertips. An emotional rush of hazy synths and springy, rolling R&B beats which Kalyan makes his own with this typical heartfelt croon. A woozy groove with a big rush of a chorus, Fingertips is a sweet teaser for the forthcoming EP.

Leo Kalyan

Hello! the latest tune from Leo Kalyan may just be our favourite to date from the London based Future R&B experimentalist. It’s the next tune to be débuted from Leo’s upcoming mixtape, Stranger, and sees him sharing production duties with fellow Londoner and Bass man Grades. Here’s a  taste of what we can expect from Kalyan (big things we predict) in 2015; this is Full Circle.

Haunting yet infectious, Full Circle pulls off the neat trick of building an ethereal electronic soundscape, and still being funky as hell. Kalyan and Grades layer waves of half hear samples, voices and bird calls, amidst a sea of lush synths and delicate arpeggios. Leo’s voice curls over the track like smoke, tying the tack together with his dulcet tones. Feeling both Lo-Fi and expansive, Full Circle is the kind of track you can keep on repeat and just sink into.

[Audio] Leo Kalyan’s ‘Stranger’

Leo Kalyan

One of London’s most interesting artists Leo Kalyan has dropped another new tune to brighten up your week. Stranger was co-written by Leo with Shift K3Y, and sees Leo as ecclectic as ever while he roots himself with an R&B groove, giving him a solid base with wich to go musically nuts over. Keep it on a laid back tip!

Stranger is smooth-as-hell, Leo’s silky voice stealing the show, but almost jostling to hold back the waves of ecclectic electronic sounds. Keeping things spacious, letting every element of the tune have room to breather, Kalyan and Shift K3Y create a smokey soundscape. Stranger is both instinctively emotional and a multi layered synthetic enigma; turn it up and delve into it’s electronic mystery.

[Audio] XO’s ‘Pulling Me Under’

XO

The London crew is all getting together for this one, rising retro-House producer XO is gearing up to release his début EP, Though The Night, at the start of next month and for the record’s second track (after last month’s title track unveiling) track he’s enlisted the help of Mr. Leo Kalyan on vocal duties for a song that was co-penned by songwriter extraordinaire MNEK. This is Pulling Me Under.

Pulling Me Under is a slow groover, a warm and laid back late night jam. Combining Kalyan’s future R&B croon with some involving Deep House sounds; all slotted into an simple and infectious Pop song. The driving forces of the music are all understated and emotion, like the gentle piano hook the runs throughout that contrasts nicely with the feet moving beat. XO is definitely on our radar as one to watch now.

[Audio] Leo Kalyan’s ‘Over You’

Leo Kalyan

We first featured Londoner Leo Kalyan back in September of last year with his smokey reMix of Ellie Goulding’s Burn. He’s the neighbour of a friend of ours, which is an interesting way to get a blogs attention, we might even put it on our submissions page as a requirement. Had Leo’s music been awful, things might have got a little awkward, luckily for us, and for your ears, Kalyan produces some of the slicked laid back Pop around, the kind of stuff we can seriously see propelling him to chart appeal.

His latest tune is Over You, it was produced with a little help from Karma Kid and MNEK and delivers just the right amount of swing, with just the right amount of haze, and just the right amount of Funk, to be the perfect lazy summertime tune. Underpinned with a thick, warbling, bassline, the track’s intricate production serves as an evolving, synthetic soundscape for Kalyan’s smooth as silk vocal delivery to flow over. This’ll get your head nodding by the pool.

[MP3] Ellie Goulding’s ‘Burn’ reMixed by Leo Kalyan

elliegoulding

So, publicists are sending us tracks their neighbours have produced now. That’s a thing that is happening. Frankly, we don’t mind, as long as it’s not from our neighbours (who’s music taste is terrible), or from the Neighbours (who produced Kylie, granted, but also Stefan Dennis). If it’s tracks like London based producer Leo Kalyan’s reMix of  Ellie Goulding‘s Burn, our mailbox is open.

Kalyan serves up a rich banquet of deep grooves in his take on the track. Shuffling, hypnotic beats and basslines that allow Ellie’s vocals to take on a new, smokey, aspect as they curl in and out of the tracks pulsating electronics. Kalyan seems to have a knack for delivering something that is both atmospheric and extremely dancefloor friendly, something about those enigmatic rhythms and haunting tones that make this one pretty compelling.
